Natural Nutrition

We all love food and this is what really got me into cycling. I was sitting at 13st and 5ft 6 and felt bloated and sluggish everyday. So I decided to take my son out for a bike ride a few times a week, he was 11 years old at the time. What I noticed was that I started to loose weight without changing my diet. Over the next 12 years I’ve lost over a stone in weight and still eat the same amount as I did then (more healthier now) and feel fitter than I ever have.

Even now cycling nutrition play an important role in every bike ride I do whether its indoors or out. I always take with me drink filled with “SIS Hydro Tablets” and a flap jack or Granola Bar. But before I go out I have a bowl of porridge.

Natural Choice

The other day. Sean “Shrek-1970-Challenger” recommended that I try the natural choice for cycling food. So the following is from Sean:

Karina does a gummy for me right now that has: Lemon Juice, Pure Maple Syrup (Like the good stuff from Quebec, Ca.), cinnamon, ginger, turmeric (new to the batch I’m using now). It would work for some one on an indoor trainer. This has got me thinking if it could be used as a gel, once it warms up. I’ll have to test it.

She did make me Flapjacks/Energy-Granola Bar with dates. One date has over 600mg of Potassium more than a banana. Oh and chocolate may be involved. We have also done peanut butter energy balls. They will need some tweaking to be able to go on the road. They are perfect for indoors or before/after a ride for energy from the oats, honey, and PB.

Kyle is a digital writer for MuckersWorldwide.com I've been out riding all over Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire for the last 12 years. It is mainly to keep fit as I love food and would be 16st if I didn't ride my bike at least 3 times a week. This leads me to Muckers Worldwide, as when the weather is un-rideable (fair weather cyclist) I move indoors to cycle on Rouvy. We have a large group of races that we race throughout winter in the UK. Hope you come and join us on a Tuesday & Thursday title of the races are "Muckers". Thanks, Kyle
