Muckerworldwide.com 100km event 29/01/23
13 Laps of Rouvy route: GPBRASIL CVB | ORLA DE ATALIA | ARACAJU/SE
4.85 MILES | 29.53ft PER LAP.
26 REGISTERED | 6 DNF | 10 DNS | 10 COMPLETED THE DISTANCE
Tried an afternoon start time for a change ( for us in the UK it was 3PM ) and to just try and include riders who’s time zones make the standard Sunday UK 9AM event impossible to attend.
16 on the start line and it set off at a mad pace! myself and “Chak” seemed to get left at the start and it took a bit of an effort on the first lap to catch up to a nice group of riders and we settled into the rhythm and over the next 10 miles or so, we caught up to another few riders and made the group around 6 or 7 deep, with “black-angus” the only rider behind us, who was pacing himself nicely for the long haul. A group of around 4 riders were at the front on another level, just smashing it!
This was not a good event for muckerworldwide.com founders though😒. About 18 miles in “kylofski” let off the pace but soon got bored and quit. This type of route really doesn’t work well for his set up and being stuck in a lonely position, going up and down the same road whilst stuck in his cold garage, proved the mental straw that broke the camels back! I got dropped by the pack about 20 miles in but luckily so did “kin_Kwan” and we spent a few laps riding together at a much more suitable endurance pace and we looked set to get each other to the finish. Then at around 28 miles my Wattbike glitched big time. 180w suddenly went to 5000w and even when I stopped pedaling, it was showing 800w and I just started accelerating away from “kin_Kwan“. Multiple attempts to get the bike to behave just didn’t work, even turning it off so I came to a complete standstill and re trying was all in vain and as my heart rate dropped to around 75bpm and I started to get cold, I eventually had to call it quits and begrudgingly went for a shower. The Wattbike had supposedly been repaired 3 days ago for the same issue so I will be back onto the subcontractors tomorrow to hopefully get it sorted asap🤞 ( blog to follow )
Back to the race and the chasing group continued to hunt down the top 4 riders, working really well as a team to just put the pressure on for the rest of the event. “feelslikemonday” finished in a very respectable 2 hours 29 minutes and 24.7 seconds with “Simon_Hahnenbruch” coming home under second behind for silver. “PatrykS_Gdynia_PL” came home in an unchallenged third with “Chak” taking a very respectable 4th place from the very strong muckersworldwide team rider “Andy_UP” in 5th. place. Well done to 6th place “jeff65” who had to pull out of last weeks 100km event due to a strain, really glad he did the distance this week, 7th was “shrek-1970-Challenger” and 8th was “Tonda103” .
side note: nice to see the top 8 positions all representing different country’s, a truly “worldwide” event………
9th was “Kin_Kwan” who was possibly wondering what the heck was going on with me at the 27/28 mile mark, and then “black-angus” crossed the line in 10th, showing great commitment to get the race completed in a time just over 3 hours and 21 minutes.
Well done to all of you who finished!

Well done Neil! But I don’t think the chasing group put any pressure to the front group as the gap from the front group just got bigger and bigger. The top 2 rides actually lapped the chasing group before they crossed the finish line. I was lucky enough to catch a ride and draft behind them for a little bit.
Cheers Chak, it’s quite hard to do the race report when you only see it from your own race and just looking at the results. But it did feel like you guys put the pressure on and didn’t really let up, especially when I was with you? If you Guys hadn’t have worked together as well as you did, they could have let off and coasted home, but, they had to stay on it and eventually lap you just to know they were “safe”. “feelslkemonday” is a beast though isn’t he!
Great race report Neil. I think I met everyone at least 3 times, as you all past me fairly regularly . Amazing maintenance of power and pace , all of you. You too Neil were continuing to increase the gap until you came to an abrupt halt. I now know why. Hope you get the machine problems sorted. It was interesting watching the different groups forming as the route wore on. I thought I might’ve had a partner with seba75MTB , for a time, in the earlier kms, but unfortunately not to be. It was good to grapple to the finish and gain my 1st Granfondo of 2023, even though I was nearly an hour behind the leading rider. I hadn’t done a lap race for awhile and certainly not as long as that. I followed much of the ride in map mode which helped focus attention inside my cold garage. I could see the lappers rolling in behind me and the DNFs helped as markers. Thank you for organising this.
Excellent comments Andrew and thanks for taking the time to post them. It is a real test to sit on the static trainer for 3 hours so well done for getting a grandfondo in so early in the year! Interesting comment on the map mode as it makes sense what you are saying and I’d never thought of that, so i will be giving that view a go on the next 100km. Thanks again.
Nice report, Neil! It was a good race. Too bad couldn’t ride to the finish line with you. Hope you can get your trainer fixed and we can race together again!!!!
Thanks Kin for taking the time to comment, i hope i get the Wattbike sorted too as i was really looking forward to a decent test on the trainer yesterday and you were right on my pace as well. Look out for my Muckers rides every Tuesday and Thursday and then always a little something at the weekend and I am sure if you join, we will around the same part of the road again that’s for sure. Take care
Thanks Neil. I understand it’s very hard to describe what happend in a race when you were not around that position. So I certainly forgive any mistakes or important left outs. Here’s what you missed. First initial leading group consisted of me, Rafal96, Tonda103 and PatrykS. Feelslikemonday make a great effort in closing the gap. After some fast paced km, I saw a rider behind making great effort to close the gap, named Simon_Hahnenbruch. He kept riding above 4w/kg for many km, and so he managed to close the gap. He went straight to te lead and kept riding his torturing pace above 4w/kg. Behind him, there was a constant battle for his wheel. Tonda was the first who had to let go. After 26km, I couldn’t hold the pace, and what then happend was very unexpected. PatrykS and Rafal took off, Simon basicly stopped pedeling and actualy waited for me. Once I picked his wheel he again started pedeling but this time around 3,8 – 4 w/kg. I didn’t have to fight for his wheel so I could stay on. We picked up feelslikemonday and slowly but certain, Simon was closing the 240m gap. When it was almost closed, 43km in the race, I had to let go as I couldn’t hold the 3,5w/kg to keep the wheel. Energy drained I had to keep going for almost 60km with no draft to hold off 6 riders working well together 3km behind me. Only Chak managed to pass me, but not before the 100km mark. I don’t know where he found the power in the last 2 rounds, but it was amazing. Up front during my solo effort, I saw Rafal let go the front group. He quit a few km after. Simon kept his pace, all the time in the lead, above 4w/kg. Very impressive. PatrykS was the next who had to let go the wheel. He kept going solo. Feelslikemonday stayed in the wheel and Simon didn’t seem to bother. In the sprint, feelslikemonday beat Simon. Simon came in next to him on the line, at an average of more then 4w/kg and above 300w during the entire race! Feelslikemonday could enjoying the free ride of Simon and came in with an average power of 3,35w/kg. I think Simon didn’t know feelslikemonday is a killer in the end, and next time, feelslikemonday won’t stand a chance unless Simon doesn’t mind. Who is this german high speed train? Lead Application Management of SD Workx. 8th place WC Gravel bike and GC winner of Rouvy’s ‘LA VUELTA VIRTUAL GRAND 10’ Europe edition. Wow!
Andy_UP or as i now like to call you Andy_UP@thefront!! Thank you so much.!! You’ve not only done an amazing report that just made me feel I was up there racing with you, you did it in a foreign language!! So not only do you put the pressure on me on the track or Time Trails, I now have the added competition on the reporting front as well.😉😊 Just superb Andy. Thank you.
Wow!!! What a battle up front. I was just happy in the 2nd group at 3W/kg 🙂
Chapeau to the guys up front!
Cheers Sean, I’d have been very happy in “your” group but it was just a little bit too far into the red for me. so I can’t even imagine the kinds of numbers i would need to be creating to get up front! almost wish my bike glitched and gave me the boost!……. wait a minute…………. arrrrggggghhhhh 😫🤬
cracking result for you and just Chapeau to everyone who finished.
