MUCKERS OCTOBER CHAMPIONSHIP R1. 03/10/24

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Before we get into the usual blog process, i just need to ask a favor. If you have signed up for NITEOR can you please make sure you have selected to have your ROUVY name appear in the results rather than your Real name. It’s fine to leave it if you are not bothered about the World Championships and adding to your points already accrued, but the world championship spread sheet only uses ROUVY names so once the monthly championship is over, if the names don’t match, you will be added as a new rider. I’m not going to try to cross reference everyone’s real names to there ROUVY names, i just don’t have the time for that at all.

We have finally published the prizes for the top 50 which you will find in detail on the separate “world championship” blog on the website. Please remember, we are just 2 keen indoor cyclist that do all this in our spare time so we always need your help to keep this thing going. So when we ask you for your email address within a month of the championship ending, its because we need time to get on here and work through the top 50 claims so please help us out and don’t leave it till the last few days to enter your claim for a prize

Thank you.

ROUVY ROUTE USED:

Mount Evans | Colorado | 14.04 mi | 3,451 ft

EXTRA TIME SLOTS REPORT:

4 riders finished the 2LATE4ME Version last night with “C.Benn” getting the gold ( and tonight’s first mention!) with a very strong time, “goAJgo” getting the Silver with an average watts per kilo of 3.0 and in the bronze position, its Muckers Worldwide Team rider “cdtchris”!

No one jumped on the 2EARLY4ME Version, so it was left to the popular RISE&RIDE Version to get a very nice 20 registered riders on it. This reduced dramatically on the race to 5 riders finishing and 7 DNFing. “Hans.Holm.Moeller” smashed his way to gold averaging 4.0w/kgs which gets him into the top 20 out of everyone, with “fc.hsiao21” getting silver and “Lorenzo76” getting that all important Bronze and his own special mention as well!

The EARLY-ON version had a decent 5 finishers with the top 3 consisting of “koniekupe” in gold and a time that got them in the top 10 of everyone, “EddyDomino” in silver and “Juankglobal” getting the Bronze. The LATER-ON version had just 1 solo rider, so well done to “PeterOldGit” for getting to the end, and more importantly, getting a mention on here 😉!

So a Nice 10 mentions from the alternative start times leads us very nicely to the main race top 20 mentions:

MAIN RACE REPORT:

124 registered for this race tonight. All these riders thinking it was a good idea to try and box off a 3400ft hill climb…. on a school night! 🙄😶😏😮. This translated to 65 riders finishing (unfortunately ROUVYs leaderboard can only list 100 riders at the moment and for some reason they list the DNFs below the DNSs so all we have are 100 names which are the 65 finishers and a list of riders who didn’t even start. Please sort this out ROUVY! we are just getting into the busy season and 100 riders max on the leaderboard is just going to put riders off, especially when we can’t see them to give them the points they’ve earned.

“przemokrk” kicks off this month with a great win, with “karel_sousek” not too far behind in a very strong 2nd. Mr consistent, and championship leader, “Stefan_Schmidt” gets a very strong Bronze and quite a few places higher than his championship challenger. 4th goes to “ErlendSundstrom” and then its the first of the ballast free riders “FlyingSkywalker” in 5th, followed by “JJRobinson” in 6th then top places Muckers Worldwide team rider “m-forby” in 7th.

8th comes “millony” , 9th “peters7” then in 10th its “lrollin” who gave it a great go today. 11th comes “RocketRoy”, tonight’s top Canadian rider in 12th “anatso” , 13th for top Belgium rider “Brampaulussen” and then top American rider “Guthinger-Mike” in 14th. 15th goes to another Mucker “Grochang”, 16th to “DonMatteo_07” and 17th to “nelsonsnyder” making a rare but very welcome race appearance!

18th goes to new rider to us “GIO-75” , 19th to “tranberg” and final mention to night goes to yet another strong Muckers Worldwide team rider “MikeHagen”

Well done to you all, I hope this is a welcome return to the top 20 mentions in the main race, and now gives you all a bit of extra motivation to get your name in print! We will do top 20 mentions when we have well over 50 riders finish for the remaining championship races this year.

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

what a hard climb! not steep, but just a constant grind, especially if you wanted to set a good time! I hoped for 80 mins and set myself a slap in the face 90 mins max! 😂. Set off quite nicely at just over 3.0s, then settled into 2.9-3.0 with the aim to keep this up. one Mucker team mate messaged me 3.2??? and i had to say no, as i probably could have, but would have blown! so i tried to at least get to the first flat part at this pace and was kept company by Rens and Roger.

The next section i had to drop to 2.5w/kg and was happy to stay at this as i was on schedule for happily under the 90mins, but another Mucker, S.Ludford decided i wasn’t gonna have it easy and proceeded to apply 3.0 pressure from behind! Whhhhhhyyyyyyyyyy!!! so i tried to match, he was a nice distance behind so even if i didn’t match totally, he would have to start to push high threes to get me… but he didn’t half try! I just about kept him at bay, and here’s a little tip for you to stop the panic setting in when getting hunted down, switch to Map mode! They just seem further away, especially on a twisty route, so instead of watching the numerical gap in the nearby list, i rode to each corner and then waited for Ste to hit that corner and check the time. It really worked and i ended up smashing my 80min target as well!

so an average w/kg of 2.75 only gets me 54th in the race, and 63rd overall! 63rd! with a 2.7! 5 races this month so hopefully if i hit all 5, itll get me enough to stay top 50 in the standings! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Fair race with virtual friends somewhere over the Colorado. Mountain stage, but still providing some sort of drafting, since it was not much steep. 66 brave riders on the start, but few usual suspects missing. Front group got quickly reduced, until we stayed with Premek and Stefan. We cooperated nicely, finally i was able to do few shifts in the front. I also tried accelerate tempo and we dropped Stefan unfortunately, but not far from the finish. Few more shifts with Premek and because my little pushes kept him calm, we could not compare in finish sprint. Very happy with performance, step by step improving. Thank you all who joined us!

  3. Steven Ludford says:

Slightly different approach in this race. Knowing it would be a hard slog for my weight I just decided to work out the pace to achieve 80 minutes and go with a constant pace strategy to hit my target. Made it public with the Muckers and Torben “Dolphwader” said he would join … but then did a ‘Torben’ and raced away at the start. Plodded on at 2.7w/kg then joined Phrust and Mikeee73 as we increased to 2.9w/kg and started to apply pressure on Neil Mucker thinking we would possibly reach him. Really impressed how he matched our pace to the top and my heart rate was telling me it was a forlorn chase. I couldn’t match Mikeee73’s strength to the finish and my 80mins target? 80mins+1sec.

Nice race, very very strenuous, but the steady climb was still very “pleasant”…. maybe cu on Sunday at MT. LEMMON.

  5. lrollin says:

With this long climb that didn’t have a steep gradient, I thought I could stay with the lead group. But actually, no, the pace at the front was quite fast. I held my FTP level for 35 minutes, then I dropped. I waited for the second group, but not wanting to push too hard, I let that group go, as well as the 2 or 3 chasers behind, just to preserve my top 10 position. 🤷

  6. Mike Hagen says:

Nice to see the return of the top 20 mentions! And snagging one with good climb; felt really strong. Started out easyish, riding with HalAir for a bit, then pressed on. Spent most of the climb with tranberg, Ulrich-NemPOS, Conti_Max, GIO-75, and uffzynda, none of us letting the others take it easy, it seemed. Caught several folk, notably Lee and Stu (Berty-Bassett6 and bikeanddogtrips), and then (surprisingly) nielsbrynnum and nelsonsnyder. But Niels was not 100%, and Nelson had had a disconnect and was chilling. He dumped us all easily enough the last couple kms. Had hoped to break an hour, but just missed, turned out to be my best 1 hour power of the year so well pleased. Kudos to all who completed!

  7. HalAir says:

Tonite was all about pacing, with such an long all-climb route the benefit from drafting etc is minimized, so all I could do was to prevent blowing up 😂 Started moderately (just over FTP) from the start and wanted to stay controlled at threshold and let everybody else do their thing. Was hoping to get into the top 30% but failed that, though not by much.

The only “trouble” I experienced was the wobbly part of the route towards the end (plateu with slight negative gradient) where I almost felt seasick 🤣
Finished the main race in 29th position and once all races had been consolidated a 33rd overall in Race 1 was secured.
