MUCKERS 1ST THURSDAY ‘RACE WITHIN A RACE’ 05/10/23

JUST RACE OR CONCENTRATE ON A GOOD I.F SCORE! YOUR CHOICE.

ROUVY Route Used: Needles Scenic Highway | South Dakota | USA | 13.4miles | 2050ft climbing

101 Registered | 61 Finishers (16 NO HR DATA ) | 13 DNF | 27 DNS

Finally we are getting onto the challenge routes! 2 Races tonight so lets have a flat out first race and see who gets into the top 10 I.F (Intensity factor)

Intensity Factor is calculated by ROUVY, so we need to see your stats (By being Friends with Me Mucker1974) and if you really care about a true figure, you need to be as up to date as possible with your power and heart rate zones. There is a blog post on our website easily explaining how to check and adjust these on ROUVY. ROUVY calculates the IF which is the ratio of the normalized power to your threshold power. Its found on your final summary page after a session, and also in your training diary summary of the effort in question, in the Virtues-Statistics section, and when the “work” tab is selected. a score of 1.0 or above, shows you’ve done a really good effort! Its the closest figure we can use to show a good effort, almost like a high w/kg figure would but unfortunately we can’t get that from the stats section, so lets use IF.

Alieno79 got a very high score of over 2 so this shows that you have a stats issue. possibly your FTP is set too low? Anyway, please have a look at it and if you need any help then let us know. Well done to everyone who got over 1 as that shows proper effort, and well done to this top 10 for putting in the best 10 efforts out of everyone.

So to the main race report:

“JoseCostaRonda” got a superb 1st place, supporting us by finally having HR data as-well, and what a way to preview it! “Tuden” was just under 30 seconds behind in a strong 2nd place, Just in front of “Alieno79” in 3rd.

A minute and a half later “Karel_sousek” pops over the line, closely followed by “Riskys_GURE” in 5th and “Krisskinder” in 6th. 7th comes “nelsonsnyder” in a bit of no mans land in 7th, with 8th place “Stefan793” in a similar situation.

Tonights Top Muckers Worldwide rider “nielsbrynnum” gets a bump up to 9th place, then “anatso” gets awarded the last place in the top 10! A minute later comes “Ronald78” in 11th, with the next Muckers Team rider “Denny44” coming over the line next in a solid 12th place, closely followed by “PatrykS_Gdynia_PL” in 13th.

Not too far behind in 14th comes “Robbiedoo” with fellow Brit and Third Mucker over the line “Kylofski” in 15th, just in front of “Ghostkiller” in 16th. 17th goes to “RuudBaars” who was followed home by the Forth Mucker “MikeHagen” in 18th.

We then have 3 consecutive riders not classified due to not being able to see the hr data, which means a big bump up to 19th for “yayarecki” and suprise last mention to 5th Muckers Worldwide team rider over the line tonight “tomlerieger”!

Thank you so much for jumping on the race tonight and I hope you got out of it what you needed. If this is your first mention on one of our Muckers Races then why not go and treat yourself to a special mention T_Shirt ( might even be in your language?) from the shop as you now have the right to wear one😉, and the mention places are getting harder and harder to get into with the superb numbers we are seeing at the moment!

Quick reminder that if you have done a Muckers Race or Two, we would love you to join or team! And if you fancy getting involved in the WhatsApp chat, drop me a message and i will add you to the waiting list. We only allow one rider a month to join as it can get really confusing introducing too many riders all at once.

Ok, first race report done. Onto the 2nd. Cheers everyone.

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

classified as 32nd and i just crept over the 1.0 IF score. this was hard and as i got to the top of the last long climb, i was 4th of a group of 4 so i powered over it to see who came down the other side with me! Just one did, mareckii and we had a nice race down the hill to the finish. That was tough as hill climbs are just not mine and the wattbikes favorite at all! ready for a recovery ride next!

Bit distracted for the start of this race; my daughter was racing in the Canadian Long Track Speed Skating Championships being live-streamed by the CBC, and I wanted to watch. Her race started 5 minutes after ours did. But her race, the 3000 m, only lasted 7 1/2 minutes. Looked around when that was done and I was doing okay. Ended up averaging about 4 W/kg for the first 15 km (1.0+ IF for me!) and riding in a group with (if I recall correctly) denny44, ghostkiller, Ronald78, and PatrykS_Gdynia_PL. But that last climb, 4 km to go, I ran out of gas. Caught RuudBaars but he passed me back. Blew by robbiedoo when he was Rouvy-glitched and stationary, but he blew by me in return. I waved when kyleofski went by. kkaos84 and Stefan_Smit caught me right at the top of the last climb, but I could at least still hustle downhill to the finish and got back ahead of them. Gotta figure out the fuel problem. Maybe I need more sugar in my water bottle? But it was a fun race, and awesome that there were 74 starters so I got a mention!

About 6.30pm I went upstairs to tell the wife that I will be racing tonight, before I could say anything my wife bleated out “you can put the kids to bed tonight I have a tonne of things to do so hard luck “ by the time I stripped two beds and redressed them, bathed two kids with hair wash and helped them get into bed in was 7.15pm 🙅‍♂️ it’s sometimes best just to know when you are beaten before you’ve even started. On a positive I rode west coast national park South Africa and decided on a Z2 session with me feeling strong I wanted to ride the last 15km at slightly above FTP. This was a really nice way to complete an FTP test with a 30min warmup this course has some small inclines and is perfect for breaking up the session and using just 3 gears. The end result was an extra 22w so all ends well after a NED and a no show this week.

Wanted to concentrate on the second race. It just suits my style more. So wanted to do this one as a warm up in hrZ4. After 30min, so halfway the time I had to start the second race, I had to do about 60hm for halfway elevation. So I had to go to zone 5 hr and ride 3.2w/kg. Made it with less then 2 minutes to go for the next race, all warmed up and a bit to much energy spend 🙁

Planned to make an easy race due to bad leg, but it went very well. Didn’t noticed we actually climbed +620 meters :-p
For once I stayed away from going into crazy infights during the race and just keept a steady pace. It was a bit too high the first half of the route and had to lower it 25% in order to make my leg last the entire race.

At the end of the race I was not ready for the second race, but legs felt ok

I felt I was prepared tonight, feeling keen to race whilst it pours down outside. 2 minutes to go, he data displaying n/a and it’s not flashing my hr. No time to swap shoes to make it across the water logged garden into the house, find a battery and swap it out, so out I shot into the house, found a child proof sealed battery, by the time it was installed I slid back into the garage to see myself stood alone on the start line, again!!
So dug in and tried to see how much I could claw back. Got to kyleofski but I needed to knock it back and recover slightly. So dropped away from him but ended up with a sprint finish, full gas effort. 👍🏻

What an amazing route, I really enjoyed that one. I’m sitting less than 1m away from my 55″ tv so the experience is quite immersive.
This time I’ve decided to go for a kind of steady effort, started around 40th position and got through the field to 23rd position. Well done everyone! 👏
