MUCKERS OCTOBER CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 1 OF 4. 03/10/23

ROUVY Route Used | Centennial Lake Nature Reserve | Canada | 23.89miles | 1788ft Climbing

101 Registered | 61 Finishers (21 NEDs) | 16 DNF (13 NEDs) | 24 DNS |

Finally the Muckers October Championship is here! 4 Races over the next 4 Tuesdays, All slightly different in shape and style.1st race is an up and down country road affair with 1788ft of climbing, but nothing too Red or too long. Really good route to kick this off.

“Alieno79” claimed max points with a strong win, beating “Tuden” by a decent 42 seconds into 2nd. Rounding out the top 3 comes the consistent and strong “karel_sousek”

We now have our first “NED” this means ‘not enough data’ and we did try our best with messages all last month and blogs on the website explaining that all events starting from the 1st of October this year will be subject to our simple 2 rules that are there to try and weed out the cheaters. Basically we need to see heart rate data to see the effort matches the power, and we need to be friends to see this. You are more than welcome to keep racing with us if you don’t want to supply this information, you just won’t be mentioned or given points on our website. This is a simplified explanation, the Blog is still on the website if you want to have a read. OK, moving on!

4th is awarded to “adampel” who was being chased by down by a sprint off lead by top Muckers Worldwide Team Rider “tomerieger” in a superb 5th! 6th goes to the ever strong GURE rider “Minyana_GURE” and closely followed by “Grochang” in 7th. “hinsbergen” claimes 8th then the next Mucker “denny44” gets 9th awarded for a superb race! final top 10 position goes to strong Brit “robbiedoo” and only 5 minutes 28 seconds behind the winner.

11th is awarded to “ironmanNZ” , then a gap to Portugesse rider “leonelcunha” who gets 12th place. A trio lead by “Chorus” gets a nice 13th place with some decent points, then closely followed by “ronald78” in 14th and “neminemlaedere” in 15th. A duo of Polish Riders next with “yayareki” in 16th and “peters7” not too far behind in 17th.

18th gets awarded to “grep1” with a strong ride, with the 3rd Muckers Worldwide Team Rider “Andy_UP” getting the bump up to a nice 19th place! Last mention goes to “Groenen” who after finishing just behind a ‘NED’, gets awarded that all important 20th place.

Well done to all who finished, and to those who got a mention tonight, don’t forget we have a special T-Shirt in the shop that celebrates this fact in several languages.

Also pop over to our YouTube channel as this race was live streamed and the race video is there to watch! You could be famous!!!

The Leaderboard will be published after the 2LATE4ME race has finished and those riders points have been sorted. Usually the day after this one.

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

My plan for to nights race were to be prepared with everything before the race. The download were done several hours before the race and the bike top tuned🚴🏼‍♂️💨
But just under 2 minutes before the gun set off, I turned my eyes to the right top corner – no heart rate detected🙈
I desperately tried to reconnect the heart rate without no luck😬 The race gun started, and I took off while I phoned my wife from the garage: “you…need to…. get my other HR belt – I’m getting disqualified!!!” What a well prepared start🤪 Fingers crossed for no DFN🙀
I hooked up with Orthostice and we did well together and halfway through we took Minyaya with us. After awhile I push it a bit harder on one of the ramps and Orthostice was left behind. The last 15 K I was forced to pace it, cause Tom Rieger, Hinsbergen and JuanjoU were coming fast from behind. Minyaya and I hit the last top of the ramp with under 100 meters to the trio from behind. I smashed it on the downhill well knowing Minyaya would make his benefit 🚴🏼‍♂️💨🚴🏼‍♂️ I thought I would rather give Minyaya the finish line than being caught up from behind. But Rieger was giving it all from behind with over 5 watts the last 1.5 K’s🚴🏼‍♂️💨💨💨 I changed my strategy the last 700 meters and waited for Mr. Rieger and we had a race for the last 300 meters but got beaten – credit to them both 👏
    Today’s lesson – don’t chance your strategy 🙈🙈🙈

Thanks Muckers for an excellent race and thanks for organising these events.🤟

    • Neil Rushby says:

superb comments mate! I know your data is pretty much spot on so if anything like this happens to those of you that I know are ok, I will more than likely message to ask what happened rather than class you as a NED! Last thing i want is for someone to stop if they have a failure of heart rate. I best put that in my next report…….Anyway, glad i got the heart rate going and well done on a strong ride!

    • Orthostice says:

I forgot my hr belt and my wife didn’t bring it to me 🙁

  2. Neil Rushby says:

After along night checking everyone’s data and completing the report, i’m more than happy with my final position. Was such a great route and for once, there was always someone to try and catch or to try and keep behind… one of those races where you pass someone, then 2 minutes later you are passed by someone else! But it was just superb and the group I ended up racing with were really fun to race with as well. Hope more people start to supply heart rate data as I know its probably not those riders that have ended up as NEDs that are the ones I am trying to keep away, but if they aren’t that bothered about being included in any of my championships or race report mentions, then that really is completely fine and I hope they still keep racing with us and at least understand why we had to bring this in.

    • Doc_PS says:

Sure, I will participate if I’m free at 8 pm. I might get used to the new word NED even though I’m GERman … 🤣… Many strong riders today and it was difficult for me in my “end of the season” mood. At km 30 I noted a comfortable 1km distance to the next rider behind and so I slowed down a bit knowing that the top 20 was too much effort today after my outside ride in the morning. Thanks for organising! It’s great to see that you attract so many participants. Well done.

      • Neil Rushby says:

Hi mate, is there no chance to get a hr sensor before the November championship starts? They really are a great addition to see how your training is going and not too expensive on Amazon? Thanks for the understanding, just trying to keep “all trainers” allowed but the only way to police this is with heart rate. We really don’t want to go down the smart trainers only route as we want as many riders as possible. Please tell me what NED means in German???? regards, Neil

  3. Bart says:

I see I got disqualified. Too bad. Didn’t know heart rate monitor was required. Pitty, those that finished before and after me have known me on Rouvy for a long time and know I am a fair racer. Anyway, nice race and I’ll make sure to have hrm next time.

    • Neil Rushby says:

Hi Bart, thank you so much for commenting. I spent all last month reminding everyone on all the posts that this was coming this month. We did a few posts on Facebook, Insta, Strava etc etc to try to get the word out there. Sorry you missed it. Just so you know, you didn’t get disqualified from the official ROUVY results and just got a NED from us. Its going to take a while to catch on as this is our first month implementing this and its in no way personal. But we have to apply to everyone and is a much cheaper way to try and put some kind of rules/minimum requirements in there, rather than hit everyone with the smart trainer only option, which we really don’t want to do. Thanks for the understanding.

  4. Lamber Manuel says:

I was very happy that our championship was finally starting. My legs were still stiff from the efforts of the past few days but I was confident. Ready to go, I struggle to find a group to take advantage of a bit of draft, I manage to catch them after 4/5 km, there are many of them, I see Kyle, Rens and Neil. The long climb begins and I can’t find an asset to pass it as best as possible. I break away and have to chase again. In the end I stay in front of Neil, always keeping him under control at the end because he is stronger than me on the descent. I was aiming for Tom-MMW, but I wasn’t able to challenge him at the end. It’s a shame to have done a lot of the race alone, but that’s how it went 💪👋

    • Neil Rushby says:

Only you can end up on a solo effort when we had so many riders on the race!😁! it used to be me but i had a cracker for a change! good luck going forward and you looked cool in the blue!

  5. Torben Adolph says:

I feel I need a new name. After Vuelta challenges, hiking rough train in SouthGermany my left leg is in a bad condition. I planned to do a zone 3 race but stuppid brain had another plan. I had a great easy ride until Tom-MMW came flying up behind me. Try to hold on but he was too strong (or I was too weak). The last 10 ish km I had to only ride with one leg if I would have any chance to finish.
Not my best performance, but I manage to reach the finish line.
Great race and so many strong riders 🙂

  6. Thomas Rieger says:

The first race with my Avatar in Mucker’s blue! After a good warmup I started well I found myself in a big pack at around 15th place. A lot of Muckers and blue kits around me: Neil, Andy, Daniel, Rens, Swisschris and Chak formed a nice team. We worked well together, the speed was high and on every bump somebody pushed even more. Several times I was close to get dropped but I felt that my legs got better and better. After around half time, denny44 an I were alone and we saw hinsbergen in front of us, normaly a podium rider. We tried everything to catch him before the finish line. He attacked on the last climb but I could keep the gap under 15m and was still in his draft. 800m to go, I put everything in a long final sprint and could beat hinbergen and on the last 50m I catched Minyna and Grochang as well. My best race ever, thanks to my Muckers shirt. it gave me wings!!! cheers Tom

    • Neil Rushby says:

What a strong ride mucker! Looks like the summer training season has you ready for the winter on line season ….. or should that be the other way round though..😉

  7. El_tractor says:

Couldn’t join since I’m sick. Hope to be back by next Tuesday. I watched a bit of the livestream and it looked great (nice music during stream). It itched but I couldn’t risk it 😉

  8. Andy_UP says:

Championship race and a route/distance I like. Danger! Danger! I’m going to start too fast, follow people I can’t for long, get dropped, have to let half the riders pass on the last 2 hills, ruin my race, ruin my championship and ruin my evening. Maybe even the day after too because I would still be mad at myself. Stay calm, this cannot happen again.

So started fast, followed a nice group with riders I can’t follow for too long but also riders I should be able to stay with. Stayed calm, let the 2fast4me riders go if they decides to go crazy on the uphill. Could maintain a decent power to the finish (barely!) so paced myself good. Yayarecki dropped me on the decent before the last big hill, while I still felt pretty ok. I did not expect that, he put a lot of effort in it. This will not happen again 🙂

Very happy with my race, very happy with the championship and had a great evening. Thanks Neil for the great route and thanks racers for the fierce competition.

  9. Kyle Goodram says:

The first race of the October Championship was upon us. Before the race, I was discussing with Neil my hope of making it into the top 30, given that we had 59 registered riders. That was my initial goal. But then, the shocker – 101 registered riders! How could I even get close to that?

Race time arrived. I joined a group and checked my position – 38th. As we approached some small hills, I saw an opportunity to gain a few positions. Our group, which included “SwissChris69,” “Chak,” “Squalo_delle_Alpi,” and “Kingmagic,” was flying. We managed to catch up to “Rens.”

For the next part, I found myself fluctuating between 26th and 31st. My sole focus was on breaking into the top 25. When we caught up to “Dok_PS” and “Tranberg,” I saw my chance. I pushed even harder, slowly pulling away from the group. In the end, it was just me and “Tranberg.” I thought I had him at the finish line, but no, he beat me by a mere 0.1 of a second.

After the race, I learned that “Dok_PS” and “Tranberg” finished with NED, which stands for Not Enough Data. Thanks to everyone for an epic start to the championship.

Also, please take a look at this link for the race rules: https://www.muckersworldwide.com/rouvy/muckers-worldwide-racing-regulations-and-requirements/

  10. Lyndon Wright says:

Gutted I mist the start of these challenges was looking forward to it, but I’ve been stuck down with covid and it’s knocked me for 6. But I did watch the race on u tube and boy was it good. Hope to see you all soon

    • Neil Rushby says:

really love how a few of you who can’t race for whatever reason can now have a quick look at how its going on the live stream. Blows my mind this is where are now. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and get better soon!

  11. Gazinho says:

That’s was a great route, it’s a shame I missed the start by over 5mins, rushed myself and forget my HRM. I spent most of the ride riding solo 😂 hopefully I can the kids bedtime sorted out before the next ride.

  12. Minyana says:

por curiosidad… en que os basais para hacer la clasificacion del campeonato?
por que igual veo diferencia entre puestos de 3 y de 5 puntos

    • Neil Rushby says:

Hi, We created a points structure that’s designed to try and push you to the next place. So some place increases are 2 points, some are 3 and some are 5! If you study the points from this results page, you can work out what you get for what position.
