MUCKERS 2025 JULY CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 1.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

Tour de Suisse 2025 | Stage 8 – Beckenried | 5.83 miles | 2,769 ft. climbing

The dreaded first race! We always try and schedule a climb for the first one and this was exactly that! 2700ft in under 6 miles is just straight up!! Not many riders taking the early slots and i think we only had about 10 times set before the main race, but on the line for that, we eventually had over 50 riders show up ready to tackle this challenge route!

running a little late tonight but its now 9:40pm so lets makes sure no ones still out there climbing and get this stage closed off so we can get on with the blog. checks done, no one left so lets close this down.73 riders set a time and tonight we had a Pro rider join us and win! Daniel Turek got the win, but unfortunately he went over our 5.0w/kg threshold so has been disqualified. I’m sure he will get over it, but how great is it we had a pro rider join us tonight. So now lets check the other 2 rules and see how many we have left. 60! well done and now all i have left to do is set this months categories and load up this months ballasts!

TO FINISH OFF:

So that’s the first round all sorted. Some new riders this week and the top 10 having 6 no-ballast riders in there as well. Wonder if that will look the same after 4 weeks, it never does but you never know. We’ve got the hardest route out of the way now so lets get onto the “fun” race routes lol.

Cheers everyone and please pop along to the comments section and let us know how the race went from your perspective? Also remember we do have merch in the shop which really helps keep this thing going so any purchase is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Proper disappointing race for me! Started really well and was holding 2.9ish and on for a decent 55 mins. But a mile from the end i suffered from waves of stomach cramps! With every wave i put faith in myself to hold everything in and had to ride at 2.0s for a while. Then about a quarter of a mile from the end the disappeared and i was able to get back up to just under 3.0s and finish under 60 mins, which was my target to begin with. So although i beat my target, i definitely feel it could have been so much better. If i try and see the positives, i didn’t quit and because my average wasn’t as high as it would/could have been, I’ve stayed in category A7 rather than move up to A6 for this month. Just inside the top 50 in the GC but well off in 6th in my Category. Here’s hoping for a better last 3 races!

    • Sunniva says:

oh sorry to hear about your troubles, it started off well, the pattern wasn’t long and I thought we’d be able to climb together in a group. I’ll enjoy the momentary advantage because on the next stages you’ll be undefeated and I’ll be left in the dust again 🤣

      • Neil Rushby says:

i deffo felt that i was able to at least keep you in my sights on this with the view to empty the tank near the top! But i do feel ok about the next 2 races at least, the last one might be a bit too much for me as well but we are different categories this month so i don’t need to get as worried about you for at least 3 more weeks lol

  2. Tomáš Hloušek (RaTim) says:

I’m on my work holyday so only races no other rides. I was in later on slot but no problem with draft absence. First half was with nice feeling than I had to slow down a little but finished with best month FTP. I enjoyed it today and I’m very satisfied with my time.

    • Simonjp says:

Tomas- missed you in the main race, but glad to see you were still able to complete it even though you were on holiday – great time you managed to post, even without the physical advantage of a draft going up hill, mentally it helps pushing yourself trying to stay with those around you.

      • Tomáš Hloušek says:

Absolutely right, I could see it on Sunday. After first half with Muckers I pushed harder trying to catch riders far in front of me and result was best calculated FTP ever.

    • Neil Rushby says:

yeah, the draft factor was very minimal today. will matter more on the next 3 though.

  3. Paul Bernstein says:

starting to look like 60+ is the new 40, or is that the otherwise around. at 80 I get a bit confused at times. kudos to Duckman2 for his unrelenting climbing. See y’all in a week. cheers

    • Neil Rushby says:

Well done Paul. ROUVY really need to do 5 year age gaps after 60 in my opinion. Just having a 60+ is to narrow minded especially as more and more people are switching to indoor as a safer way to ride and keep fit and active.

  4. UncleE64 says:

Hey Neil – sorry to hear about the cramps. That’s terrible! Opposite story over here. I had a strong, controlled ride for about 2/3 of the way with RogersTrainer helping me along. What a nice guy. Couldn’t hold the 3.0 pace for the last 1/3, but I’m still satisfied with my result – must be the new bike (I splurged on the Wilier SLR Verticale today). I can’t climb worth a damn, so 2.95 not so terrible for an old guy still recovering from a broken kneecap (don’t ask). As you’ve probably noticed by now, it’s unlikely I’ll complete all 4 events, and even less likely I’ll be able to push hard the whole way like today (don’t ask). So, A7 very much up for grabs!
Also, Kudos to all the 60+ riders out there. I’m a “young” 60+ (won’t turn 61 until August), had what I thought was a strong performance, and still only finished 6th (middle of the pack).

    • Neil Rushby says:

Hey UncleE64, thanks for the comment. Well done on a great race. When you know you’ve done well, finishing order really doesn’t matter does it. It’s just nice to see if you are higher than you thought, or for me, just amazed that even when i’ve done well, there’s still more riders in front than behind 😂😂. We do attract some bloody strong riders! Just gotta use them as motivation as i know i always push harder on a Muckers championship race than on a “just ride” even if i tell myself to pace it!

  5. Manuel Lamber says:

Another very difficult race as first race, after last week that I did a long distance trail race and yesterday another long ride with 2400 d+, this evening with hot temperatures it was a epic undertaking…
I start with a good pace, but in half part I start to less energie also my legs works good.
For my lucky, I find on my way Sunniva and also UnclE64 that posh me in my mind to give more things until the end.
I hope for the next races some more light route for improve my second position in A7.
    👋 to everyone 💪🦈

    • Neil Rushby says:

thanks for the comment Sharky. I saw you’d had a great start but i was pretty confident in the first half i was going to eventually catch you. Then the cramps hit and i dropped away. Was really interesting watching the action on the nearby list in front of me!

  6. Andy_UP says:

I had my own goal set for this climb, finish 3.3w/kg avg. I finished 3.4w/kg so I’m very glad with that. To put in prespective, I beat my route estmates time with over 7 minutes! Even with this (personally) great effort I’m not even in the top half of the result. Muckers championships is the world tour of Rouvy.

    • Neil Rushby says:

That was a top effort mucker!! you’ve got some tough competition in that A5 category as well for all your hard work! Isn’t it usually around now in the year we start to get really good points though? looks like we might have tough competition all through the summer this year.. cheers for commenting mucker and well done again on that time!

  7. Karel Soušek says:

Swiss selection with very hard climb. I changed bike to Willier Verticale and Obermayer wheels, as this was climbing thing. Right after start i struggled as drafting effect was limited, but we quickly approached main climb. With pro rider Dan Turek it was guaranteed it will be lot of fun. We formed group with Dan, Tuden and m-forby, distancing lrollin and rest. No wonder, Tuden and Dan in front riding like a machines.

After mid section i could not follow Dan and Tuden, so i focused to keep ~100m gap over m-forby and Alex Ramoldt. Both were riding greatly and pushed me a lot. With very hot inside i had to control effort as one could pay the price quickly. Finish line was close, yet i took ages to get there. Big kudos all who joined us, it is not easy in tropical conditions. Great race!

    • Neil Rushby says:

thanks for always letting us know how the race went right up there at the sharp end! I was really gutted i had to DSQ Dan from the results, but you know me and the rules. He did reach out to me and we exchanged emails. seems a really nice guy which makes it worse, but rules are rules and i do hope he pops back again sometime as most of the normal drafting races won’t really see many beating 5.0w/kg average will they.

No BareRemi this week, i remember he had about 2 months away last year so i wonder if this is the start of his summer break? or maybe he wants a ballast rest?? 😉

  8. Sunniva says:

I was afraid of this route because the average gradient of 9% sounded a bit scary. I started with a larger group that later split up. LinV and rogerstrainer turned out to be too fast for me this time, I was holding on to Squalo_delle_Alpi who took me to the finish line. A big effort for me, my IF was around 1 but I liked the route and the ride with the Muckers. Thank you and see you next time 🙂

    • Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

It was a very difficult work, thanks a lot for give me more mental power when I see you near me. I try to give you the same and in the final I give more attention at another rider behind of us… very well 👌

      • Sunniva says:

yes, I was also looking back and wanted to ride with you so as not to be overtaken by the chasing riders and not to die at the same time :)))

        • Neil Rushby says:

funny reading the above. you just see how everyone is looking at everyone around them and hoping and wishing for this and that. love it! I was wishing and hoping for something completely different but lets not get into that shall we….🤣

  9. Paul Bernstein says:

I don’t know if this is usual, but Duckman 2 and I turned out to be the top two USA finishers. his Chris Froome 90rpm style had me stretched all the way. looking forward to much more fun this summer. cheers

    • Neil Rushby says:

Duckman is a rapid rider so is always up there. The more you race with the same riders, the more you will see there strengths and weakness which really makes the races more fun. Its took 3 or 4 years to get us here, but i believe it makes it all the better, especially the chat on here and on strava afterwards is always good as well. We forget sometimes we are all over the world in our own little areas dealing with our own personal issues, but our avatars are cm’s away from each other and the thumbs up as people pass me, has travelled thousands of miles!
