RACE REPORT:
Wow, what a tough route! So tough hardly anyone did the earlier versions and just before the Main race we had only 25 riders who’d set a time rather the usual 50+. So to see over 100 on the line just before the start of the main race was a very nice surprise…… but would they all finish?
As per usual, after all 8 different start times have finished, we like to report how many riders crossed the line before we Start to implement the rules! if we have anyone average over 5.0w/kg over this route then they are clearly the perfect example of why we introduced this rule!
so looks like we had 121 cross the line on this stage. Well done to you all!
94 Riders left after removing no Heart rate data riders.
No one did more than 5.0 w/kg
And 2 male riders were under 60kgs, so that leaves us with 92 riders getting points tonight!
Please can we ask you don’t change your name mid month! If you do you might loose your previous scores or data. Please leave any changes until after the current month and before the 1st race of the proceeding month. If you had made it into the top 50 and are interested in keeping the “World Championship” table as up to date as possible, then please email us and let us know.
co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...
That was a tough route but a really good challenge. Uphill Starts are really no good for me and my Wattbike and this became ever more obvious as i set off at 3s and was soon in the high 80s places! But this was going to be a long race and not worth blowing up on the first few climbs so paced it steady and gradually picked off a few riders . Rode with a few regular names along the way but gotta give props to sunniva who kept me honest up that last climb!
Just outside the top 50 now and 4th in my cat, I’m hoping for a decent ride out next week and another climb of a few places in these leaderboards!
Haha, I thought you could feel my breath on your back 🙂
A good race for me, the light wheel setup allowed for good climbing. I also got some support from David1951.
Thanks to everyone and see you on the next route 🙂
Yes i deffo felt the pressure and David had an interesting race as i passed him half way, then next minute he’s doing 4.0/3/3s up that last climb and just flew away from my 2.8-2.9 rhythm i had to push to stay in just to keep you away!
More than happy to be back fighting for wins after multiply sicknes ruined february. A tough route with litterly no flat sections. I love Mallorca and the climbs there.
Still lacking a bit if you compare to the end of last season. Looking forward to the classics and hilly races. Would be nice to see if its possible to start shortning the championship gap to karel =)
Thanks for the race everyone.
@Neil
To get back to the power categories, I understand better what you were saying about the fact that some categories wouldn’t always have five riders. Actually, the problem comes from the fact that Niteor applies power relative to the race. It would be better to create categories based on a constant power using the declared FTP or the season FTP. It would make more sense to classify riders based on a fixed value because using a relative system is quite strange—like in my case, where I keep switching from A1 to A4 depending on the race.
I still don’t understand why Rouvy displays the declared FTP on the starting list in the app but doesn’t show it again in the ranking table. Rouvy can estimate FTP, so it’s a shame that this data isn’t used to create a fixed system of true power categories like those found on Zwift or MyWoosh.
Something else, I feel like the ballast is never reduced. For several reasons, I’m getting pretty bad results this season, always outside the top 15, and my ballast doesn’t change from week to week. Is the ballast fixed for life or what?
Ballast is with you for the whole year. It will reset to 0 for next February, apart from the final top 10 from this years championship who will start the year with the first lot of ballast.
But i have also tried to work out if we should maybe drop -0.5 off those who don’t finish in the top 10 in a certain month.
its penciled in for next year but we won’t change anything once the season has started. But once we see how this increased ballast system for this year has either worked or was too much, will determine what we do next year but the reduction for non top 10/50 might be the way to go.
thanks for the feedback. My goal with the categories is to try and have it set at the very beggining of the month so you know who your battling with for the rest of that month. So set it once then leave for the next 3 events. But yeah, it’s not really worked out right this month, last month was closer.
We don’t want to relearn every race as that ruins the whole mini race within a race as you might be 2 different categories in the one month so thats not an option.
The perfect way would be a 30 min no draft first race every month, but that then looses the whole point in it being a race.
Also, those that come in late, like race 2 or 3, just go into the category that race has given them which also messes it up a bit.
But remember, we are trying to just learn about it this year and hopefully by the end of the year we will know the best way to do it.
Really tough climbing course but went with the 4 spoke wheels with the 2 long descents which paid off as could recover on the and gain time on those with light wheelsets. Had bad flu last week and still lingering now but managed to keep the power up on the long climbs and get an improved position and gain some points back on my cat rivals. Like the courses where drafting is not so beneficial and focus is getting the power down without help! Well done to all that completed.
Wasn’t sure I felt keen to race, and consequently had a relatively relaxed start. Riding with MatthiasHeil and Duckman2 in a group starting up the first big climb, I could see ludwigdb and JensMTB just ahead, slowly pulling away, and thought that they would be a good draft on the downhill coming up. So I popped up, pleasantly surprised that I had the legs for that. Decided to assert myself on the second climb and and at the top was a few hundred meters ahead of ludwigdb and Yumile, who were chasing, and a few hundred meters behind a group including BigJonRides, macko, nielsbrynnum, and akosal; a group I would dearly like to be with. Now what? I wasn’t going to catch the group ahead by myself, maybe if I waited for ludwigdb and Yumile we could do it together? But I’d worked so hard to get a gap, didn’t really want to give it up. So I chased on solo, somewhat regretting my life choices. On the third, ending climb, akosal had gotten dropped from his group and I was slowly clawing him in, but not quickly enough to give him any kind of a scare. So, solo ride over the last half. I would much rather be more social! Kudos to all that finished.
Initially, when I saw this route was a championship race, I was surprised by the elevation gain. It seemed more like a challenging Sunday hill climb than a championship-level course. Before the start, my son mentioned he’d come by after, and I confidently told him I’d be done in just over an hour, figuring I could tackle 2,700 feet of climbing in that time. However, Neil quickly adjusted my expectations by showing me the Squalo_delle_Alpi race results. He’d clocked 1 hour and 9 minutes on the same course, and he’s a seriously strong rider. Suddenly, finishing within 80 minutes (1 hour 20 minutes) became my new target.
Neil’s pre-race strategy was to pace the climbs at 2.7 to 3.0 W/KG. I thought that if I could hold above 3.0 W/KG, I’d have a shot at beating him. As predicted by the podcast, within two minutes, we were on the first long climb. I managed to stick around 3.1 to 3.4 W/KG, riding alongside Ghostkiller and Rouvy1byron, with Tranberg close behind. This group dynamic persisted for most of the race. Ghostkiller even asked me to take a turn at the front on the descents and flats, but frankly, I was just clinging on for dear life – apologies, Ghostkiller!
Eventually, on the final climb, they pulled away, leaving me solo. My new objective was clear: beat Neil and get as close to Squalo_delle_Alpi’s time as possible. I crossed the finish line within a minute of Squalo_delle_Alpi’s time, at 1 hour and 10 minutes, and about three places ahead of Neil. I’m incredibly pleased with that result.
A quick shout-out to my new Zwift Cog and Click – it performed brilliantly, providing ample gearing. I only dipped as low as 7th gear, so bring on the steeper gradients! Securing second place for the month is fantastic. Now, I’m determined to maintain or even improve that position and snag a first place. Looking forward to racing with everyone again next week!
i see….. so when i chat about what i am thinking to do, you use it against me…. just goes to show friendship goes out the window when its race night lol 😂😂😂😂😂😥.
So as much as it pains me to say, that’s a great account of the race and thanks for commenting…. See you next time….. or will you!? 😏
Better late than sorry 🙂 Rainy day, fresh haircut and race of the week. Solid legs, which was needed because course was challenging. Several long climbs, however not that steep and profile suited to puncheurs well. That turned out to be true, as leading group consisted of expected names and on top of that Simon showed up. Strong pace in climbs, but we stayed together firmly.
Norwegian guys attacked over horizons, which caused we lost Gilmad and Simon. Final part was very painful due those short sprints, but we reached final climb together. I did my best with steady effort, but again this was partly drafting climb, so final acceleration was too much and i finished with potato medal. Exciting race, thank you all who joined us!
Tied for a Cat 5 5’th place but not there yet. Hopefully I can find a bit more somehow in the next race to squeak in. Really had a good time working with folks on those climbs, lots of chasing and being chased.
