Noci to Monopoli | Italy | 17.4 miles | 899 ft. climbing
The “kinda” downhill route for race 3! Okay, 900ft of climbing isn’e exactly downhill, but it was the best challenge route i could find at the time that would fit the bill. This route was used on the last ROUVY big race and i nearly didn’t use it, but i am glad we did as it was good to compare how we did when it was 70-80 riders in the race, rather than around a thousand!
so its 9:15pm on a Thursday night, time to check no one is still riding on the last 2 versions of the race and call this stage finished.
137 riders set a time so lets see how many left after the dsq’s: 27 removed for no heart rate data, no one averaged over 5.0 w/kg, but we did have 2 male riders registered under 60kgs so they’ve gone as well. (guys, just adjust your weight to 60kgs to be included!)

TOP 3 CAT. A9 RIDERS FROM THIS RACE: UNDER 2.3 W/KG
Well that route closed up a few categories but this does look like it could be przemokrk’s month to win, or his to loose now…. The current top 10 all have ballast so we might also have our first month where we have no new entries to the ballast club, but Andy_UP, Yumile and Breers33 are all very close!
See you next week for the final race of this month!
co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...
I “HAD” to do well here. Its all a bit close in my category with those riders around me who will be much stronger than me at the last round! So i had to get some good points here 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞. With some previous knowledge of this route from the ROUVY Big race, i knew i had to burn a few matches over the first bit as its a tough challenge to keep momentum high to the “recovery” downhill. But you had to be with a decent pack at that downhill as the rest is quite fast and flowing!
Luckily it went okay and the group i was in, was very fast but i never felt i was going to get spat out the back! We even caught a few riders up and dropped quite a few, whilst keeping a really nice flow going to the end. Had a go at the sprint and although i thought I’d come about 3rd on the iPad screen, the results showed i won that so max points achieved.
So going into the last race, I’m now first in my cat but only by 3 points to the much stronger Squallo, but have a really nice buffer to 3rd place. Also really bedded in well into the top 50 so i think i can go into the last race quite happy to have fun and see how it goes. No Pressure. Sounds good!
hi Yumile, yes that is very frustrating isn’t it. I feel it happens more when we’ve raced on a route that allowed us to go over 45mph and then certain riders then get the glitchy teleportation issue which then means you’re never totally sure about where you and the other riders around you really are on the road. Its something ROUVY know about and i hear they are on with a fix for it.
All I’ve learned is if you are in a pack at the end, you have to keep pushing all the way, even if on screen you look to have got the better of another rider and are tempted to just let off over the line due to the gap being enough on screen. Don’t do that!
The route was very good and I decided to ride it again together with Muckers. I improved my previous result by more than 3 minutes. I always put my whole heart into the Mucker’s races. Sometimes I have less strength and sometimes more, but these races always give me a lot of joy.
This time I got help from Steven when he waited for me when my legs had no more strength. Then we rode for a long time together with stelviobound using the draft. I don’t know why Steven stayed behind but stelviobound and I finished the descent together forcing a couple of riders in front of us to work harder.
It was great, thank you all.
I started to experience glitches on the descent, I would be in front then suddenly 200ft behind so I decided to roll easy to the line. When I saw how close you got to our original group of riders I wished I had continued to help you catch them.
I enjoy Thursday races, I approach them differently by starting steady and gradually building up, if I find you and some other familiar names we often encourage more to our group and then we motor along very nicely passing many other riders.
Yes, Sunniva, I apologize for drafting too long. Normally, you and S.Ludford come up from behind and spit me out the back. I was determined to stay in contact for as long as possible. You both lay down such smooth power. My power is always bouncing all over the place, it’s not on purpose, I promise.
thanks for the comment and isn’t it great to get Ste’s and Stelvios takes on what happened as well from there point of view. This is why i love these comments after a race as that avatar really doesn’t do justice to how that rider is actually feeling at that moment in time on the screen does it! 😀. The question is: will sunnva and Stelvio be just as nice next race as they are both equal on points in the championship and well inside the top 50 places for world championship points! lets see…….
Yes, we’ll see what happens 🙂 when I rode the route of this race in the official race the names of the avatars couldn’t tell me anything about their owners. In Mucker’s races, names have power 🙂
Yes, Andy_UP is close to the top 10 (11th!) but with the last race being a double 250hm climb race, and Grochang, Yumile, RaTim, Breers and Gil.mad.io the first names close behind me I won’t be in the top 10 this month 😉
Still yesterday’s race was very fun for me, right up my alley with this short steep hills of a few 100m in length. Thanks for choosing this route!
Great racing Andy! Yes i saw you were nearly at the “ballast threshold” and i think you will soon pick up your badge of honor! Thanks for commenting Mucker.
Nice route, I rode this 3 times in this month, always with similar time. This time as usually it was I lost all in the start of downhill. In fact my group give me 20/24 mt and my race it’s finished. Behind of me only a rider at more of 270 mt, and therefore start my solo race also for this time. For a moment I’m very nervous because my group don’t wait me when before I work hard also for them… but at the end of race, I take it easy and hope in a revenge… 👋🦈
Is this why you changed out of your Muckers Jersey for the 2nd race 😉. I was really shocked you got dropped. I was so focused on not getting dropped myself, i was just focusing on the riders on my screen and staying with them but as close as possible so i was in the draft when they started to accelerate down the other side. Then on the downhill i say you were out of the draft.😲 The problem then is, even rolling in the draft, i am still pulling away from you so i had to make a decision. 1: drop right off and out of there draft to wait for you, even though you are my closest rival in my category and in a 1 to 1 situation, much stronger than me so will eventually beat me anyway? or 2: stick with the pack and see if i can hang on, maybe catch more riders up and put a gap between us so we are closer on points? On a Thursday, Number 2 is going to win every time, especially as these opportunities don’t present themselves very often.
But you will have the better of me next week, especially with revenge as your main motivation 😆
“Kinda downhill” is right! It was rolling and bumpy the first few kms, and I had no chance of going with the lead pack. Never saw them. But settled into a really nice group with Thomas (RaTim), Stu (bikeanddogtrips), Santiago (IRONSAN73), and picked up MatthiasHeil shortly after the downhill part started. We caught Pascual (22_GURE_Pascu) a little later, but lost him when Stu did one of his famous surges. Lots of jockeying in the lead up to the final sprint. I expected Stu to go first, and he did (getting predictable there, man), got his wheel and expected to shoot past him, also thought Matthias would get us both, but that didn’t happen, Stu first, I pipped Matthias, and Thomas and Santiago another 0.1 back. Fun!

I had the impression, looking at the screen, that I did much better at the finish. Unfortunately, the results did not confirm this.

oh, and I’ll explain, because maybe my English isn’t very good. When I wrote ‘using the draft’ I meant that we helped each other 🙂

Sometimes when don’t ride a Muckers Champ I try some other kit…. For try to do surprise effect 🤣
