Platja de Granda | Spain | 14.57 miles | 197 ft. climbing
ROUVY SAY: Take a ride from historical Cullera to Plato de Grande on a fast and flat route along the Mediterranean coastline in eastern Spain.
WE SAY: Fast draft race!!! get in!!
253 riders set a time over the 9 different start times! 253! thank god I’m using NITEOR nowadays as that would have been a lot of typing on a google sheet and word docs like i was using a few years back. Anyway, lets see how many stuck to the 3 Muckers rules:
75 riders were removed. This just took me ages though as it removed “”fotochic” automatically as she’s still registered as a male on NITEOR. It’s only becuase she’s raced with us for a while now that i know she’s a female rider, but i had to mess around a lot to get her re-instated. I won’t do it again so you have a week to sort yourself out, please…….
But if you are reading this and you want to be a part of this championship make sure your sex is set correctly on ROUVY AND NITEOR, make sure you have HR data, if you are a male rider don’t have your weight set below 60kgs and finally don’t average over 5.0w/kg for the race. Then the automatic removals won’t hit you.
So I’ve hit the relearn categories again as instructed by NITEOR so this will be interesting to see whos changed categories after one more race!
Very interesting development in the top 10 after 2 rounds. Erlend has a very nice gap at the top with long term Mucker Svard doing really well in 2nd! I really hope he can do the next 2 stages 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞. But 2nd to 10th is a proper mixed bag with the hitters in there but carrying some heavy ballast, Karianne well up there as well and just like Svard, no ballast and we are hoping for a full month!
I am sorry to sound like a broken record but i was informed by NITEOR to hit the new relearn button after every race now as that will help get more data per rider and hopefully get a truer set of averages. So although we might see some jumping about over the next few weeks/up to the end of the year, it should all even itself out and be as close to spot on as possible. So if you have jumped up or down a few categories based on last week, don’t worry, its all about NITEOR learning more about you.
Thanks for taking part and thanks for reading the blog, especially those of you that read to the end. Appreciate all of you!
co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...
So, time to put up or shut up Mucker! Keep saying this kinda route is my preferred type, so no need to get to too nervous as more and more riders join the start line…. yeah right!! I’m sooooo nervous!! stupid really, but just shows how we all can get ourselves pumped for an on line race against all these different (but in some ways same) people from all around the globe!
Fast but controlled start at around 500 watts and you just kinda hope that you are in a massive front pack dont you! around 45th up the first little climb, but got dropped over the crest! arrrgghhhhh! so annoying as no matter what you do, you can’t get back on as they accelerate down the other side , just creeping more and more out of the draft. SO myself and a few others watch them pull away and form our own pack from around 45th to 60th (at a guess)
i do all i can to stay in this pack, trying to drop to the back before the inclines so i had as much draft as possible up the inclines. nearly got spat out once or twice but just held on. I didn’t have anything left for the sprint but was more than happy i hadn’t got spat out the back and caught by the massive train behind. Finished inside the top 50 for some much appreciated decent points for the GC
Everyone looking forward to a speedy fast powerfest? I can’t say the same! I can’t hardly keep up with you hunky young’uns until you all get tired. Was averaging 4.5 W/kg for the first few minutes but still only in the mid-40s! But settled into a nice group of 10. Two groups of 18 ahead of us, but no gaps closing, and not much debris coming off. Spent most of the race at the front of the group as EddyDomino and antyradziu took turns surging; I went with them when they did but I can’t claim to have helped much–it was too flat and too fast to really be able to get away. Into the finish sprint and I actually had something left to pull out fourth in our group, pipped by 0.02 seconds by rouvy1byron, but that same 0.02 ahead of Tinico. Fun times! Kudos to all that finished.
Fast, short draftrace. Eventhough I’m a lightweight (or because?) I’m better at short intense surges with short moments of recepuration. This is exactly what you need to get and stay in the frontgroup. Start at 6w/kg, UP the power even more on the first little hill and I’m in the front group of 21 riders. Heavy breathing and getting ready for the next surge. I don’t know why these riders in the front group keep attacking at 10w/kg, there is no way they will get away. Maybe because there is a chance someone reacts to late and looses draft but is that really worth the effort? Anyway it’s good for me as 2 riders got dropped and I’m now sure of my 19th place, if I stay in full concentration mode. I saw svard loose draft at some point. He had to do 8w/kg for what seemed ages before he got back on, what an effort! Yumile saved me (unintentionally) 1 time when he was barely hanging on and I was behind him, thanks to his draft, I could get back in the group. I wanted to give him a virtual fistbump, but that’s not possible. Watching the km countdown. 8km to go, massive surge, 6km to go. Still holding on, Nearing the 3km, watching every move because once in the last 3km, if they start, they don’t stop anymore. 2.5km, here they go, already! Hanging on, hanging on, everything hurts, OMG, Karianne is dropped and I can’t hold on any longer. 1km to go, Karianne passes me, I’m done, happy with me top 20. Last wave to my fans at the finish line and drop my head on my towel. Will I do the cooldown race? Yes, good training, not full. Spoiler! Was full and ended 14th. I’m competitive, I’m a racer, I’m a Mucker!
This was something I was really looking forward to… a flat ride where I could ride in the lead group and try to keep up with every jump. Wow, it’s been a long time! I thoroughly enjoyed it! There’s still a lot to learn from others in the sprint. Really fun!
Finally a good race, flat, power and chupa wheels 🤣.
Start good and I stay with a nice group but some km I see that I don’t hold theyr wheels for many time, now every week I came from 3 days of race of hight intensity and my legs are a little heavy.
I decided to ride with the group behind of me where I see many riders direct opponents in my cat. I try to stay in front but not in first line, always with my power on, I did 283 w agv a big effort for finish well. Thanks to all riders that give a hand in front, this month is very difficult to win the cat but I try to battle until the end. We look forward to the next 👋💪🦈
A flat route this Thursday, I started back off because I forgot turn on the fans, so I had to push hard to pass some riders. I couldn’t cautgh the first group but I was near.
In the second group I decided to be in the draft. I tried a little attack at the last km but my legs were tired because the hard races last days.
Congrats all finishers.
Just another Thursday. Visiting dentist who plugged my teeth back, back to work and joining meetup on way home later on. Unlocking door 10min to race start, no warm up, but it did not matter today much. One of those completely flat races, where almost 20 riders reached sprint finish. Just out of top 10, but im happy with the effort, remembering there were times i finished at the tail every time. Good race, thank you all who joined us!
I had to ride one of the earlier races and missed the split on the first little climb over the bridge. Couldn’t get anyone else to work, so pretty much game over. However, I was able to watch the “main event” from perspective of Mucker74 later while waiting at the doctor’s office (nothing serious). Great ride Neil! I was super jealous of you and the group you were in – thanks to the constant surging of EddyDomino and antyradziu you guys were motoring! Kudos to Sharky, MikeHagen, and the rest in that group too – you made my downtime in the waiting room actually enjoyable!
Report from 73rd place: you have to race with an AWG of 3W/kg to get this place 😀 It wasn’t the usual, flat race it supposed to be 😉
However, the add-on race was a cool ride with the blue train.
