GF Cache | Utah | USA | 23.86 miles | 715 ft. elevation
ROUVY SAYS: Set against the stunning backdrop of Cache Valley Utah, this must-ride course welcomes cyclists of all levels and is known for rolling hills, gorgeous farmland, and towering mountain vistas.
WE SAY: 1st race of the month so its TT time. profile looks “flat” enough to use the TT bike as well so i wonder how many will opt for it, or at least remember you do have the option to use the TT bike when our races are set up as non-draft ones? 24 Mile TT though is a tough ask, but also one we take on! Pace yourself, maybe save the most energy for the climb part so you don’t loose too much momentum or do you settle into a power or a cadence, or a certain heart rate zone and try and hold on? Be great to hear how you approached this one?
Remember this is not just the first round of the Feb championship, but also the 2nd race in the separate TT championship that we are just using the TT race each month as the races we include in it. You can find the info on this via the separate event tile on NITEOR
Right, Lets see how everyone did:
148 riders set a time! Not bad at all for a full on, no draft TT effort! We only apply the 1 rule to this TT race and that’s heart rate data is required. So lets see how many survive! 116. now lets re-learn the categories and lets get this blog sorted.

This is where you can find all the data, full lists, full run down of races (past and future) and if you join, which is free, you can get even better insight into your rides. Give it a go, it’s really good. Even if you just use it for the ROUTE ANALYZER that helps you pick the best wheels and frame based on your data for the actual route your looking at makes it worth a look.

Hope you enjoyed the first round TT! We feel its a nice way to start the month and now we go into our usual race routine for the next 3 weeks. Hopefully see you on a few more Muckers Races in the next few days, and if not, let battle commence this time next week!
Thanks for joining in and thanks for checking out this blog, especially those that read to the very end.
co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...
64th. Better start than last month and did this TT on the Wednesday due to a work meeting on the Thursday night. Went with the TT bike, fast start into nice cadence/speed then try and climb at a higher power to keep the momentum up. The climb did kill me but once at the top, it was time to get back into the best form i could so i could finish as strong as i could. Pushed all the way but i was knackered. Still, it was nice to see my name in the top 10 for a while before each race that finished knocked me further down and down and down lol. leading A7 though so lets see if i can finally get in to the top 50 at the end of the month!!
I had a really good first ITT at the beginning of January, so let’s do it again, eh! Set off ambitiously at 4 W/kg, but the middle climb said, nope, not today. Struggled in the last half, but didn’t lose too much. Next month let’s try easier start and stronger finish. Ten more months to get this figured out!
My carnivore team mate to the north ( that is you Mike H) calls the TT the race of truth, the purest form of cycling suffering, or somesuch. In truth I don’t like TTs, and doubt that I ever will. Too much suffering. But out pain master ( you Neil) has made rhe TT the start of every month, so what to do? Got thrashed last month, and don’t want to spend the rest of the year beginning every month in a big hole. So I studied up. Cadence, pacing, gearing, etc.. And I went shopping. 30000gold coins got me a spiffy Trek bright red Tt bike, just like Ra Tim, and they threw in a helmet just like Sharky’s, only mine has red stripes. And then while most of you were busy working on January 28th I snuck out to the course and did some practice . Decided cadence, 90-100 would be the goal. And I thrashed myself on the climb, 5.5w/kg for a practice race. My legs were dead after that. My practice race turned out to be 44 seconds faster than our race today. The main difference was I did the climb 4.1W/kg, and planned to do a negative split, and firing off of the last decent, still with very good legs and 100 3rd+ rpm to about the finish. At the end I was 256 avg watts in my practice race, and 257 avg watts in our Mucker race..and 92/91 avg cadence, and finally 4,1/watts per kg in both rides. How does that happen? There is still so much to learn. Now I have a few weeks to forget about hard this was, and then time to prepare for March. Bonus question, name a top pro TT racer with rhe exact same metrics as me. 170 cm and 63 kg. Answer Remco.E….hope to see everyone next week. cheers
Doing the right thing, purposely draining the battery on my macbook once a month, what I didn’t figure on was how long it would take to get it charged enough to restart. So by the time I started everyone was gone. Good thing it was the TT. I am happy with the result after a bad start, better than last month went I forgot to turn on my HR monitor. “Ten more months to get this figured out!”
Didn’t ride much first 2 weeks of January, but starting to ramp it up again a bit. Estimated FTP has dropped from 242 to 228 in the past year. Not great. Planned to take it easy yesterday and ended up going harder than I should. Anyway – 3 goals for today: Go constant power of 3.0W/Kg and try to save a little something for the end, get under 59:00 and – hopefully – into the top 50. I went out just a tad hard (3.1W/Kg approaching the climb). Still managed a solid 3.0 on the climb, but it caught up to me on the plateau (2.9). Didn’t finish that badly but just missed all 3 goals (2.95 and 59:02 and 53rd). Maybe a little more discipline in the first few miles might have been enough to catch LinV and reach the goals. Doubtful I’ll be able to complete all the events this month – and if I do probably not at full speed – but maybe these monthly TTs will be my chance to let it all hang out – especially when there’s not too much climbing 😉
My February target will be enter in Top 5 also I must missed all the event for the next week. (Sunday to Sunday go to work 🚌 for Olympic Games), it will possible? I don’t know but I try 💪.
The race was very strong, I choose TT bike and with a little pain on my knee… before the start in my cave I can find a nervous atmosphere.
I started good but not a rocket start, and a long the way I find my friend Ludwig and start to work with him also without draw (but don’t tell it to nobody 🤣)
My knee work well, and I find a good pace… at the end I catch many good riders but I see my friend Michael to recover to me, I hope to stay in front but a few km to end he overtakes me and also this time I lost a position 🤯, but I entry in top 30 in main race and this is incredible think 💪🫡.
Thanks to all my friend saw on the route and see you to 14 days 👋💪🫶🏻🦈
I am officially filing a complaint and starting a petition to STOP THE SHARK.
Sharky did a sneaky thing today where he started behind me and fooled me into believing that I actually had a leg on him. For a second there, my self confidence was through the roof … until him and Ludwig smashed right past me and totally crippled my morale.
These mental games. He is playing with us! Enough is enough. Stop the shark!
Anyways … What a hard TT. My legs are still sore today. I don’t have any clue how to approach these TTs except try and go 95% and save a little something for the climb. I struggled a lot on the incline because of problems with the virtual gears (trying a setup with a two-keys-keyboard) and that wasted a lot of energy. But once I switched back to mechanical gears, I did alright again. Not saying it would have done any difference, as I am a heavy dude, so this is not an excuse.
Rode in front of Paul Batemen and Steven Ludford in the beginning, and that made me feel good to be in front of them (sorry guys) but they overtook me on the incline. For the most of the ride, I was together with Duckman2, who kept dropping me every single time I was closing to latching on to his wheel. The mental games in this TT were insane! Anyhoo, I came back on the last stretch, overtook both Duckman2 and Paul Bateman, but could not catch up to Steven Ludford – who smashed it!
I am officially down to 93 kilos, and I will probably move up in categories soon because of this. My end goal is 85-84 kg, but I am taking it one month at a time and just really enjoying the process. Cycling with the muckers and getting back my into shape is so much fun.
I’m so happy that you lost weight and growing up yours training 💪.
Will be our next target together, improve the race and lost the weight 🫶🏻🫡.
And remember the Sharky is a big diesel Tractor 🫶🏻👋🦈
Great job Klinthomie! Also gotta say that I”m really impressed at the continuous improvement of Sharky. Top 30 in an event like this is really good! Great job! And you’re right about Ludford – I guess I don’t pay enough attention, but I had no idea he is so strong!
25 mile TTs were my ‘go to’ event when I discovered cycling at the age of 40. It took me 3 years and over 100 ’10 mile’ or ’25 mile’ TTs on a Tuesday or Thursday night on busy UK dual carriageways to reach my peak … Averaging 26.2mph on a 25 mile TT. Nothing special but I am very proud of it. I am also pleased I haven’t surpassed this performance on Rouvy, 12 years extra ageing will have had is say, but it still reassures me regarding Real Life / Rouvy comparison.
Fixed pace strategy tonight, ride at my FTP and try not to deviate, simple. Ignore every rider on course and see if there is anything left in the final mile (there wasn’t). I get to use TT wheels, because it’s a TT not a road race so I’m on a level playing field equipment wise. Really interesting to see I could overtake riders doing 3.7w/kg on the flat sections when I’m doing 2.9w/kg, I assume these must be 60kg-70kg riders putting out less raw wattage … I have been critical in the past that Rouvy doesn’t benefit heavy riders on the flat, on a TT I now admit I was wrong to be critical.
Overall, very happy, controlled power, controlled breathing and heart rate … IF 1.001 … mission accomplished
Very compliment to you, in the last month I see you more better, this type of route result very fine but very strong for the bombers as us, well done Big L. 💪🫶🏻🦈
I have always considered myself mostly a (relatively heavy) climber but don’t know why I suddenly am better on the flat than on the climbs 🤔 but all the CTTs on Zwift this winter really paid off in this diesel TT. Did most of the TT as Over/Under (110-120%/90-95% of FTP) and when you can control the pace yourself TT is really a lot like climbing. Draft or no draft – pacing is also a lot easier when you can ride with and see your nearest competitors – and with VeloBuch just in front and luke_vin and Karel just behind you know the time will be good. Thanx for another fun race/TT guys 👍🏻
Time trial as we have first week of month. Long route, started pretty strong, riding close to top guys. Yet even before uphill section in the middle they went ahead and i rode with Hans and later on with Luke. We passed climb together, but it was still long till the end and both guys were stronger in the final section. 4,3wkg is solid, but the bar was today obviously higher. Thank you everyone who joined this tough event!

Nice to feel the support on this journey. Thanks Sharky! Good luck with the olympics!
By the way, Lamborghini started out making diesel tractors, didn’t they? See where they ended up. I feel like you are on that same path …
Don’t look now, but the route on thursday looks ugly for folks like us. Brace for impact!
Dear Neil – does the recent email from Niteor (about them closing shop in March) mean anything to our championship and races going forward?
