MUCKERS City Cool Down or Race 1 of 6. 23/03/23

Rouvy route used: The Best of Sydney | 11.22 miles long | 672.5 ft climbing.

Route 6 from the Cities – All around the world | Easy Challenge that ends 16/4/23

24 registered | 12 finishers | 3 dnf | 9 dns

To cool down or not to cooldown? That is the question! I think only 2 riders answered yes to this question and the others opted to race!

Decided to schedule this “long” route from the 6 part cities series first to get it out of the way as the other 5 are ones you can either really chill on or blitz for the whole distance so it’ll be interesting to see who completes all 6 and what they do on each event.

Also just to make it interesting, I’m going award points for these 6 races and I will reveal the eventual leaderboard after the last of the 6 races.

Wolfe29” definitely decided to blitz this one with an average speed of 24.37mph and finishing over a minute in front of “EdAlves” who got the Silver. UK rider “robbiedoo” got over the line to claim the bronze, followed by top Muckers Worldwide rider “Tom_MWW” who came home in a very strong 4th.

5th with a great result was “uffzynda” (wonder if this was because of his potato soup energy meal he has before racing…) , 6th the Italian rider “Lorenzino” who finished a minute in front of fellow countryman “alexmatiu“, who had a comfortable gap to the 2nd Muckers Worldwide rider “S.Ludford” in 8th.

9th came “otero22” then came the third, yes, third Muckers worldwide rider “cdtchris” in 10th! Well done team and especially to Chris whos not been up there too often, but like they say, “you’ve got to be in it to win it! or at least get top 10!” it’s something like that anyway….

Thank you everyone for jumping on a Muckers race, and a special thanks to those that did both events.

cheers

I decided to zone 4 this one and it was soooo hard not to chase down Chris for 10th but I stuck to the plan and took it easy. Really good route to get in the sights of Sydney aswell.

After leaving everything on the road in race 1 tonight I promised myself to take it easy around Sydney and conserve energy in the bunch. Even the countdown warm up was hurting my legs 5,4,3,2,1 go, I don’t go hard but as we turn the first corner I find myself in 9th position – now this changes things – “blinkin’ eck, I might get a Top 10 mention”. I haven’t had mentions since my local newspaper listed under 10’s football teams back in the 70s … suddenly Rouvy has turned me into a 10yr old wanting a mention in Neil’s (Mucker1974) race report. I am, however, very tired. I see ‘cdtchris’ and ‘Lyndon65’ are following and assume the catch will follow, ‘otero22’ is slightly ahead so this presents a dilemma, 4 riders and only 3 remaining ‘mentions’ (8th, 9th, 10th). I try to ride with new Mucker team member ‘otero22’ but we quickly hit the short 10% section which I decide to ride out of the saddle and remain in ‘the big ring’ which at this point was more comfortable on my tired legs. This resulted in me pulling away slightly and the gap remained. Some beautiful sight seeing opportunities followed and after the Opera House I just decided to ride half power enjoying the sights and it looked like everyone behind me did the same or we were all just shattered. ‘Lyndon65’ suddenly disappeared, perhaps his bike set on fire, all that heat/friction in his tyres from the previous race and we were left with 12 riders on the road. So I blame Neil and the top 10 mentions for spending today unable to walk.

I know how you feel S.Ludford. I found myself in 10th and 11th place battling Lyndon65 and I said, this is my only chance to get in the top 10 and get mentioned in the review. I was worried, after Lyndon65 dropped out, Neil, that you would catch me at some point. Thanks for the mention.

Where have all the flowers gone … lala – I mean where hava all the top jet fighters on two wheels gone – from the first race this night? 😉
Again, I have been solo on this tour, a pity, no helpful broad back in front of me to save energy *puh*
Sydney was not so much of a great route, maybe this was the reason. Nevertheless, “Paris Roubaix | Hell of the North | France” (part of the “Taste of the Spring Classics | MEDIUM” challenge) is even worse.

Anyway, apart from that, it was again lots of fun to ride with so many great people. Muckers bring the world together, don’t they ? 👍

See you tomorrow in North Italy (Ritten), a top route through the mountains, which I have done in reality!!! (with my KTM motorbike 😍 *shame on me*)

    Regards, Chris alias “uffzynda”
