MUCKERS DOWN UNDER (sprint) RACE 3 OF 8. 08/08/23
2ND RACE OF THE NIGHT| SPRINT RACE ( BASICALLY DIFFERENT POINTS STRUCTURE THAN THE MAIN RACE.)
ROUVY ROUTE USED: CHALLENGE WANAKA | NEW ZEALAND 20 KM | 12.43 MILES | 731.63 FT. CLIMBING
54 REGISTERED | 38 FINISHERS | 3 DNF | 13 DNS
2nd race of the night and I’d decided a while back that although I needed to do 2 races a night over 3 of the race nights, I didn’t want to punish those who could only just make the first one due to time constraints or it being too late etc etc. So I came up with a lower points structure for these “Sprint” races ( No idea why I didn’t just call them “Bonus Races” ) and at the end of the day, I was trying to keep everyone happy which we all know can’t be done 😉 but its what I decided to do so lets see how it pans out.
7:50pm (UK) and we had a superb 41 riders on the start line. Top 3 battle for the win again but this time “adampel” got the gold, “karel_sousek” the silver and “JoseCostaRonda” the bronze! “nelsonsnyder” was a distant 4th , then another large gap back to “stephane-martin” in 5th, and an equally large gap to “jshortland” in 6th. Seems these guys ended over the line doing solo efforts.
to round out the top 10, we have 4 really strong Muckers Worldwide team riders with “nielsbrynnum” leading them home in 7th, “denny44” in 8th, “Berty-Bassett6” in 9th and finally “rmadden1” in 10th.
sorry the reports are short and sweet but when there’s 2 on one night and lots of riders to work points out for, its just gotta’ be that way.
well done everybody, especially those who did the 2 races!
Don’t forget full championship table will be published in tomorrows 2LATE4ME Blog.

obviously I was going to get a top 20 finish on the race that didn’t have enough on the start line for a top 20 report! 🙄🙄. But this was a decent race for me, really enjoyed it and felt strong all the way. Great to see so many Muckers behind me for a change that’s for sure, however, Ste and Kyle were just that little bit too strong for me to stay with in the end but like i said, i really enjoyed this one.
Well, I dunno that 20 km is a sprint especially when it’s the second race on the day! But give it a shot. I was riding with the usual my-speed guys, Berty-Bassett6, nielsbrynnum, ,denny44, rmadden1, about 6 km in, but, gah, I gave everything in the first race and I have nothing left. So I dialed it back. Tom-MWW and robbiedoo went by at Wanaka, but the draft bar glitched, no draft, so I let them go. ChadRitchie then caught me, and I had a draft, so we rode together to the end. That was hard. I am off to do some outdoor riding in France, so I will “see” you guys in September.
Well let’s say that after a very challenging first race I was thinking about the second, also because there was less road and more D+. Yes, ok about 100 meters more but still difficult to manage. I was thinking about a nice ride with Neil and S.Loudford and kylofski that in a certain way I was surrounded by Muckers jerseys 😜, but after a few km you disappeared and I was no longer able to
has pick me up. I start again a good run to catch someone, also because someone could give up towards the end and so it was. Great challenge at the photo finish with Mick_Michel, last minute with W’s personal best, but first on the finish line the ranking rewards me with the 23rd and later it turns into 24th … too bad I had already opened it 🍾 🤣
Thanks to Neil and Kyle for organizing 💪
Second race of the night: “Sprint Race” — seriously, WTF. After the first race, I had nothing left. “Good luck, everyone” were the words I uttered on our new Discord chat service. And then, it was go, go, go. Wait, what? No power! No! I exited the race and reentered. Off I went, now in last position, 39th, with the nearest rider 0.23 miles up the road. My steady ride had transformed into an all-out race. I don’t know how I managed it, but I dug in deep and found some power from somewhere. Slowly, I began to move up through the positions. With about 3 miles remaining, I spotted my fellow Muckers: “Jeff65,” “Andy_UP,” and “Ryanio-Bianchi.” I caught up to them and somehow managed to pass them. I don’t know how, but I did. With only 1 mile left, I also caught up to two more Muckers racers: “Mucker1974” and “S.Ludford.” Starting from last position, I felt so elated to finish in 18th place. It was a very tough night of racing. Thanks, Muckers.
It didn’t feel like a 2nd race was in my legs while we waited for the countdown on the start line. Totally cooked, I just thought recover whilst keeping an eye on people near me in the Championship table. Surprisingly, another good race with a few of the same guys as race 1 and a couple of riders also suffering from the earlier big efforts. In the end it was Myself, Neil and ErLeGo13 (No team name, I’m sure we have room for another French Mucker) fighting for position. Two races is definitely hard work but happy with tonights efforts.
As I sat on the start line I thought , well this is gonna hurt ! And I was right . I was just out to try and grab someone’s shirt and get pulled around but failed , Madden1 and Metsie kept playing a part in this survival and we kept on getting close to Denny but as soon as any thought of pushing pedals entered my head , my legs went bambyfied , only thing keeping me going was the thought , well I can’t be the only one feeling like this surely , surely ? Please tell me I’m not the only one !
Really enjoy your comments Lee 🤣🤣, and no you are by far not the only one !!
Went off hard again tried to stay with the fastest guys but got blown out (sounds vaguely familiar may have to rethink that strategy) got into a group including denny44 and neillsbrynnum all was OK until a couple of surges from neillsbrynnum and I just wasn’t able to respond and was caught quickly by Beatty basset and we rode together well to the finish great nights racing and super hard
Tough race when you get lost at the start and don’t have any to drag/pull with. I survived but I was so freaking tiered after two race where I’ve to do two solo ride. I never learn to jump start like many of the hardcore riders and never learn to draft. But “fun” to participate
Missed the first race due to connection issues but managed to get the electronic up and running for the second race. In the second race I had some issues 😠😠😠 4 major glitches 😠😠😠, which caused me to chase the ones who passed me during the glitches. Anyways, I managed to catch the strong riders 💪💪 Lee and Robbiedoo. I could see other strong riders 💪💪Denny and Roy 100+ meters ahead of Lee, Robbiedoo and me, so I decided to try to bridge the gap to them. Denny, Roy and I worked well together, but after a while Roy seemed to be lacking energy as he dropped from our trio group. Denny and I continue together until we reached one of hills from there I continued alone to the finish line. Great race👍but annoying glitches
That first race was insane! Having the chat on Discord with Kyle, Andy_UP, Lyndon, Rens, and others was a nice addition. Although, no one said much during the race it was nice to hear others suffering as well…LOL. Great group of riders that took turns at the front of our group to keep chasing the ones up the road. Big thanks to robbiedoo for the draft during several moments in the race. It seemed like as soon as a gap would open up between me and the rider in front, robbiedoo would come past just enough that I could quickly recover and get back on. We had a great sprint for the finish. lrollin and I finished side by side with a time of 0:37:13.5, scoring gave me the 18th position edging him out by .1 second.
The second race was tough, but didn’t have as many surges—I guess the first race wiped that out. Most of the same riders were together on this race as the first. Tom-MWW, robbiedoo, MikeHagen and I had a great sprint for the line. All finishing within about a second of each other.
After those two races, a couple beers, pile of pasta, steak and a salad, I slept so good last night. See y’all next Tuesday.
