MUCKERS FEBRUARY CHAMPIONSHIP. RACE 1 01/02/24

ROUVY Route Used: Tour Down Under 2024 | Stage 6 – Uraidla | 19.16 miles | 2047 ft. climbing

Smart Trainer only first round, so as we don’t have to make sure the non-smart trainer riders are actually putting any effort in, We can just quickly award points and no need for checks. So i should have this blog done for Midnight now instead of 2am!! Result!!

2EARLY4ME RACE RESULT:

As per usual, I was lucky to catch some of this race on my lunch break and to say “CerveloKevin” was going for it, is an understatement! We’ve been informed This Guy is an ex national champ, so look at his time and if you are at actually around that speed and just getting into cycling, are you really giving us a true representation of yourself?? “RocketRoy” comes home 3:33 behind his team mate today but still with an awesome solo effort, and we have “_Lanier” claiming 3rd. Quick note to this rider, make sure we are friends and you supply HR data for the rest of the championship or you will unfortunately be classed a NED!

LATER-ON RACE RESULT:

Just 2 Canadian finishers in the Later-on race, but a Mucker won, and with a pretty decent time! Well done “Chak” and also to “vcanale“. Pretty much solo time trail efforts in these other races so these times are a great indicator of where you are, without the help of the draft.

2LATE4MERACE RESULT:

Excellent results for “RJL1925” who got under 55 minutes and Regular 2LATE racer “Jettro” who just didn’t quite manage a 20mph average tonight, but still a very strong result. And last top 3 mention I’m happy to say goes to one of our longest standing Muckers “cdtchris” with a strong solo ride to get himself just over 71 points.

MAIN RACE RESULT:

112 Registered | 84 Starters | 79 Finishers | 5 DNF | 28 DNS

84 Starters on our first ever Smart Trainer only Championship Race and that’s double what we thought it was going to be! Remember though, for the rest of the championship we will be back to “all trainers” so friendship and Heart Rate will be required from all of you that finish in the top 50! So get it sorted now while you still have the time.

Championship day is the day to put all your training to good use and give it your best shot! Lets see who got the top 20 mentions today:

I love a Sprint for the win and we got that today! “Procat” gets the nod for 1st, Just before “Alieno79” crosses the line just 0.1 of a second later. “Gil.Mad.io” gets 3rd, then we have another little sprint for 4th which is won by “karel_sousek” just in front of “luca_ma” with Strong British rider “breers33” 34 seconds later for 6th. We now have a 3 way sprint for 7th!! “Adampel” gets it, just in front of top placed Mucker “Tuden” in 8th and “ErlendSundstrom” in 9th. We then have “Keitholdgit” rounding out the top 10 but in a little bit of no-mans land.

“Wyverns” in 11th and “BareRemi” in 12th cross the line on their own, but a sprint for 13th sees “m-forby” just pip “tranberg”! 15th goes to “lrollin” , 16th to “Peteroldgit”, 17th to “Dok_PS” then a sprint for the last 3 mentions between “nielsbrynnum” in 18th, “Stefan_schmidt” in 19th and final mention to “juanlugue” who gets beaten in the sprint, but still gets into this very exclusive top 20 mention club!!

Looks like alot of decent little sprint finishes all throughout the leaderboard, so like we always say, it really doesn’t matter if we have 10, 20, 50 riders in the race, all you need is the one right with you, the one behind closing, or you catching the one in front and you have yourself a race, no matter if that’s for 13th, 45th, or 75th!

(Keep scrolling for the championship table)

CHAMPIONSHIP TABLE AFTER 1 ROUND OF 5 RACES:

riders who are running top 3 points ballast: “Luca_ma” with -1.5%, “Gil.Mad.io” with -1% and “karel_sousek” with -0.5%. These riders (who were the top 3 in January) will have this “winners ballast” applied for the rest of the year, but this may go even higher if/when they finish in the top 3 again over the remaining months of 2024. This is a way we’ve come up with to stop the same top 3 running away with the Muckers monthly championship every month and a way to keep the top 10/20 points as close as possible! Think of it as a weight handicap that gets applied to other sports. We did think of trying to apply a slow bike choice for the top 3, but this is impossible to make sure it happens at every race. So its not affecting your ROUVY finishing places in anyway, just our points system. Finally, you will always know the rider who has finished in a top 3 placings in the earlier months due to the handicap percentage points being in a bracket after the rider name in the championship table.

89 riders finished this first round in the February Championship so Top 50 is already looking tough! Why do I keep banging on about top 50? Well, its the top 50 placings at the end of each month that get put into a special “Muckers World Championship” points table that is going to be updated every month and at the end of December, the top 10 will be our World Champions for this year! We might even have some special prizes for these guys but we are just finalizing them and the a separate blog will be coming soon on the Website all about this!

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

53rd and i really couldn’t have gone much harder. I didn’t panic when my 3.1s weren’t enough on the climbs and riders would come flying past, i just keeps it going and so happy i did as i eventually clawed some back near the top and dropped others. It was then a frantic race with a few others, but mainly with rouvy1bryon who i have to first thank as we worked pretty good together to keep a safe distance from the guys behind, to then be able to sprint it out over the line. I went quite early out and got that magical 50ft gap, but then he started to eat into it and i took the very risky decision to back off again, re group and go for it over the line, instead of trying to grind it out! It worked!! but i did think i’d blown it when earlier on so i was very happy over the line and my figures came back with a very good effort, even if i still didn’t manage to get top 50! oh, well, there’s always next week.

Traditional Czech tasty lunch and no running before once in a time, that was my setup. Tough course in Australia again, it was clear it will be another event, where you balance most of the time to stay in front and not go too much over limit. My prediction turned out to be highly accurate.

Big group of 20 riders formed until first bumps came. Ruthless selection of field followed and i was just following those few avatars ahead. With Procat and his usual race style the tempo was constantly changing as Alieno and Gilmad were trying follow him. We stayed with Gilmad then behind those two, but in the main climb it was too much for me, as cramps were nearby. I slowed down a bit and Luca got quickly back. We continued together till the end, where sprinting algorithm decided 4th place belongs to Czech Republic. Superb race, thank you all who joined!

Every other Thursday onwards I am unable to ride/race with the Muckers and tonite was one of those, so did a shorter Babble Challenge route a little earlier instead. Aiming to complete that challenge by Saturday and have a little reserve for Ventoux on Sunday 😅

If anyone care to join me for a Babble Route or two Saturday morning 8:30 or 9AM CET I could set one up 😀 (Pace approx 2,5w/kg)

    • Manuel Lamber says:

Perhaps Saturday morning I want to do something to recovery my legs after the my skialp race of this night. Let me know if you make something not to hard after 09.00 am. 👍

      • HalAir says:

I’m riding at 9AM CET on Saturday – look for Race / Strathnaver Saturday Chill. I will be targetting 2-2,5w/kg 👍

Another hard race. My plan was to save energy and stay with the leaders as long as possible. My internet connection had other plans for me today. I was not able to get any draft at all because the rouvy film did stop constantly and it was hard to figure out where the other riders was. After 15 min of unnecessary stop and go pedalling i was exhausted. Thats when i decided to just find my own ryhtm and tried to make the best out of it. After a while i manage to catch and pass m-forby, tranberg, lrollin and Peter. I decided to go all in at the steepest part of the climb, and almost catched Wyverns at the top. My guess is that he was saving som energy, because he was able to make som distance to me after passing the top just 20 meters in front of me. At the end it was all about keeping my posision. Fun but challenging race =)

  5. Manuel Lamber says:

For this race, I wanted to work something to hard unlike Tuesday for check my status of training.
Good work until half, but after I ride almost in nobody’s land, therefore no draw that helping me for work more hard and faster. Another times I found raffocus but like Tuesday he doesn’t seem to work together, but I surpassed he at finish line for this time. Thanks also a Kyle that always make me “nervous” when I see him on the mirror 🤣

  6. Andy_UP says:

I didn’t want to go all in at the start, because the hill looked a bit long to “hang on for dear life” in a “too fast for me”-group. So did my own pace on the climb and badeskum had a hard time to follow my 3.8 – 4 w/kg pace. Even with this fair pace, we gor passed by a lot of riders. Near the top, I was in a group with Svard, Chorus and Yayarecki. Those 3 pushed me to my limits. 2.5Km before the finish, we had a decent gap from all those behind so I Iet them go. Very happy with the way I did this race, and my power output.

  7. luca_ma says:

I hate how rouvy manages the groups bigger than 6-8 people. You absolutely have no clue what is happening. We were 18 in a first half (it is even hard to know the size of the group). So when we split I was in the second group. Not able to get even close to the top trio. I was then with breers33 and hinsbergen for some time. Then I saw Karel dropping back so I gave it a try to get to his wheel. Tough one, and I think he might slow down a bit not to ride alone. Then we helped each other during the downhill section, thanks Karel! Very hard one again.

  8. Doc_PS says:

I was unclear about my tiredness today after my travelling. I started slow around position 45 on the downhill sections, stayed in the group and saved energy. With the first part of the climbed to begin, I felt good and started pacing with JaniPiik. I kept a constant speed and moved up the ranking into the top 20. This was a good long climb for me. Thanks to the smart trainer only mode and my pasta lunch, I could hold my position until the end and I was not caught … as it used to happen in other races. Thanks for organising the race. It’s so much fun but extremely challenging racing a Muckers race …

With another small muscle in my ribcage overloading, it’d spasmed painfully on Tuesday, I was going to sit this one out. But then I realized that there were only three days left to complete this fifth and final task in the Hard Yakka challenge. If I was going to ride it anyway, might as well do it with the Muckers! So I put out a note that I was doing a 2 – 2.5 W/kg pace and SillySilNL chimed in that she would do the same. We ended up with SwissChris69 and robbiedoo in a group at the back of the pack, a few others in and out as well. Lost Rob a couple of times, I guess he had connection issues, but he did some strong bits to get back on. I was impressed with Silvia’s steady 2.5 W/kg pace most of the way, she was very smooth. I kept checking WhatsApp and getting 20 m ahead or 30 m behind the group, needing to sit up and wait or surge to get back on. Running around like a puppy, Sil said. But it was about as much fun as I’ve had on a Mucker ride. Really good!

ITT lunchtime hack. Happy with 5th overall @4.851w/kg and 325W average. Aiming for sub-48’ and had to do a pretty uncomfortable last 3km to get 47:54.

Great race chasing down guys I’m now familiar with . If I ever get a good start I could be dynamite otherwise it’s somewhere between 8th andf 12th! Today it was Wyverns as my target and I had to give it everythin at tjhe end to stop him cataching me. Had hoped to better Kevin but that’s a forelorn hope unless we get something super steep and long! Go goats! As an aside I had another person (a mucker) , whom i don’t know understandably but respectfully questioning my data. He has accepted that my data is good and if anybody wants to look my real world Strava is freely available, just don’t confuse my real world tandem and solo rides. Old goats don’t die they just getbthinner and faster.
