Muckers Monday Race night. 27/02/23

Rouvy route used: Colorado River | UTAH | USA | 19.14 miles | 501.97 ft climbing

Route 1 from the USA Desert destinations | Easy challenge

25 registered | 15 finishers | 1 dnf | 9 dns

Ten past eight (UK Time) and 16 of us were ready to take on the 2nd event of the night and off we went with a nice downhill segment to get us all in the mood for some more fantastic scenery and hopefully a competitive and drafty race!

adampel” came over the line in first taking just 41 minutes and 37 seconds to do this 19 mile route! 26 seconds later came “Simon_Hahnenbrunch” for the sliver, then rounding out the top 3, “PatrykS_Gdynia_PL“. Any of these 3 riders could have won this tonight and its great to see them jumping on the Monday race, and, not always knowing in what order they will finish!

Muckers Worldwide rider “denny44” claimed 4th and really wasn’t that far off 3rd with a superbly competitive time, just pipping 5th placed “R3-569-DIEGO-DONATI” in the process, who was closly followed in by muckers worldwide rider “DonJulio” in 6th.

|Did someone say they can see another muckers worldwide rider next? Yep! “Chak” came next in 7th then “amun1000” in 8th just 14 seconds behind

Wait a minute! Did someone say then can see another.. no .. actually, another 2 muckers worldwide riders coming next??? Well, they would be wrong as its actually a trio, but as you know, I only mention the top 10 by name…. first up in 9th came “Shrek-1970-Challenger” followed by our own little lightweight pocket rocket “Andy_UP” in 10th.

well done everyone and thank you so much for doing my event, especially those completed both races

cheers

arrrggghhh 13th and so disappointing compared to the warm up race! Set off as hard as I possibly could, but my loan wattbike decided to just go weird for about 5 seconds, but those 5 seconds meant I lost the draft in front of me and just couldn’t bridge the gap! so by the time I got to the bottom, I was a few hundred feet behind the rider in front, and almost half a mile in front of the rider behind. Now in the dreaded “no mans land”, I tried to keep a nice pace but I soon got tired/uncomfortable and decided to back off and let Jeff catch me so I could maybe get some draft in and recover. he caught me, we rode together for a few miles but he then put it in to catch the next rider up and I just couldn’t go with him. props to Jeff who did catch the next rider and overtook him near the line, but I was just struggling to get to the end, mainly because of 2 days on the bike and doing nearly 150 miles in those 2 days. But I kept Chris behind, so every cloud etc etc etc

Nice write up Neil. I think you are the first color analysis for indoor cycling and doing a bang up job!
I thought at the start I was going to be in a higher position in the pack. It showed me in the front for a few seconds and then in a blink of the eye I was hurled to the back. I fought to move ahead of Jeff and Art by Scott and I managed to finish ahead of Scott but Jeff powered past me. Jeff did an excellent job clawing back up the line and made good progress. I tried to catch Neil but he managed to keep his distance. Rats.
All in all it was a fun ride.

every time, I wanted to ease off and just ride nicely to the finish line, you’d close the gap and I had to respond! Nice to see you back on the race Mucker and i want to see a top 10 from you this month!! 🤨

Lightweight pocket rocket! I like it! But the rocketfuel runs out a little too fast nowdays and then I’m just a useless piece of metal on the ground.

Started off well, even took the lead for a few seconds 🤣 thanks to the drafting and the downhill start. I was in a small group of 3 riders till around halfway, but they were averaging between 3-4 w/kg for a long time which I couldn’t maintain, so fell back into ” no man’s land ” untill Jeff65 caught up with me around 5km from the end and we rode together drafting off eachother for a while , untill about 800m from the finish line when Jeff65 dropped the hammer and put the watts on I tried to match but couldn’t.
Jeff got 11th and I finished 3 seconds behind him.

You can’t beat that feeling of being up there in the top 2 or 3 can you! but its always short lived for me. Jeff caught me up and I tried to ride with him to catch you as the gap was dropping but i just couldn’t hold onto him so had to let him go. I was watching with interest him catching you then the kick at the end. all this while i was making sure Chris didn’t catch me! Fresher legs might have meant I’d have caught you though…….

Thought i better comment after all those kind words. It was my first time on Rouvy, for 2weeks,due to my hamstring injury,so the first downhill section i was testing the waters, and seeing how my leg reacted.Felt comfortable, and my competitive nature kicked in,nice to see some familiar riders, firstly i caught Chris, and eventually Neil, then my next target was Roger, 0.6miles ahead, being fresh, and nice flat terrain, which was to my advantage,it took all my effort to catch him. Then we played cat and mouse for a while, swapping the lead, untill the final stages, where i just managed to hold on to the lead !!!Great fun as always
