MUCKERS TUESDAY RACE DAY. 07/05/24

ROUVY route Used : Castiglione | Italy | 24.07miles | 301ft climbing

INTRODUCTION:

OMG!! Rouvy lost the plot and put some flat routes on again!! 😉. Its a welcome break from all the Alps routes and also the Spring classics, which were great, but not a lot were exactly flat like these ones were they! So we scheduled these to run this week, 2 tonight and the other 2 on Thursday. The first race being the main one we report on here, the 2nd just an add-on race to help get the challenge completed. So if you stick to the Muckers main schedule, you will have all 4 routes completed by the end of Thursday and the coins in the bag!

We are going to stick with mentions for the top 3 and also the various sprint winners, but as its only Tuesday, please just do what you like today, its just a way to get these challenge routes completed as a group!

Usual 4 start times tonight so lets see how the Results came in!

what a great race route. Reading most peoples strava posts after the race and it seems everyone had a great time! We actually have a 5 way sprint for 1st, and 4 way sprint for 6th just 4 seconds later! The top 9 just 5 seconds between them. So lets see who gets the top 3 mentions, and the individual sprint wins!

Well done to “breers33” for the win, with Muckers Team rider “Tuden” getting silver and “Gil.Mad.io” getting the bronze! The Battle for 6th was won by Muckers team rider “nielsbrynnum” with an average speed of just under 29mph!

Next Sprint was for 10th and it was a 2 way deal won by “DonMatteo_07”

14th is another duo sprint won by the strong German rider “s.p”

17th and a special mention to Muckers team rider “tomlerieger” for winning his sprint finish!

We then have a 7 way fight for 21st! won by another Muckers worldwide team rider with a strong finish from “batbuilder” Well done!

A 4 way for 28th next and yes, it was another Mucker with a great sprint from “Squalo_delle_alpi” getting the little victory!

an 8 way for 33rd won by the Very strong Mucker “HalAir” with a really strong pull up that final climb that smashed the group up that had been together for a long time till that very place!

And finally, showing everyone that all you need is 1 or 2 riders around you and you are gonna have a race no matter what position you finish, its “Duckman2” winning a 3 way sprint for 43rd!

Well done everyone, especially the special mentions, for finishing this and just having a go with us. hope you enjoyed it. Did you get to the “add-on” race at all?

we are back on Thursday with what looks to be a really interesting race route! it says it has 300ft of climbing but the profile is more downhill than this one and should be superb fun! hopefully see you there.

thanks again.

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

30 seconds late to the start due to me thinking i had already downloaded the route when i hadn’t! didn’t want to risk it so went back to download it with about 3 mins to go and just hoped. All was downloading nice and fast till the last few gig and it went sooo slow. by the time it loaded up my avatar on the start line, I was in 52nd place and the counter was on 29 seconds!!

Got going and was all set to use it as a bit of zone training until “Dok PS” showed up behind me pulling 4.0w/kgs. and closing fast! 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 can i really jump on at that pace?? not for long but I’ll give it a go!! Luckily, he came past and dropped off the power slightly so i could stay on his wheel. We then pick up another strong rider who is not in his usual position “HalAir” and now I’ve got 2 machines in front and I’m just doing all i can to stay with them! We really do motor along and we catch lots, and drop lots! it was amazing,

We are coming to the finish as a pack of around 8, it looks like it climbs ever so slightly so I try and position myself as the last rider and watch what everyone else does, just to see if I could piggy-back as many riders drafts as I try a long and hard attack up this climb!! I do ok, I’m pulling past people quite nicely but the climb is a little longer than expected and I run out of legs over the crest, but I’m in 2nd place and a comfortable 2nd place that I can just about recover and hold position! loved that!

I really like this area of Tuscany, I have come there many times on holiday… wonderful.
Finally I can celebrate a sprint mention again… after many photo finishes 😜. Good start, I’m looking for a good pace and a good draw. I see my TT teammate Andy_Up and off we go, after a few km a nice group joins us and we join Phil_SCRT, Stephen_Bellio, SR-71 as well as SALVATORE-CARUSO and batbuilder.
Good team work, for some of us Tuesday is a routine training session.
batbuilder has more and leaves us, then he will be caught again and will escape once again together with Salvatore, we stay on our pace, some solo rehearsals but always caught.
We reach the end, this time I want the sprint to be mine, I wait, I wait and in the end I take advantage of the descent to place a good finish… nice challenge with Phil… and thanks to Tuscany which gave me an incentive to win a mention 💪.
    Greetings everyone

I was late last night but sat on the bike two minutes before the start. My plan was to find a nice group for a speedy but controlled group ride… start gun … and: my avatar did not move? It took a while until I realised that my kickr was off… so off the bike, plugged power cable in, waiting … and then I was able to go… so what to do now as the last one of the race without a group? I started and checked my legs. Felt actually ok. I saw our co-chief Mucker Neil in front of me – now I know that you also had a late start – and some more known names. All around 500 to 1000 meters away. So even though I wanted to safe some energy for my qualifying race on Sunday, I decided to test my legs for the next hour and to simply start a group and lead it. It turned out to become a fun ride … despite the much to flat terrain… I did long sweet spot intervals in Z4 – the first one was around 20 minutes long – and in the end led a nice group of 8 rider with HalAir and Grochang and also get the benefit of some drafting in that group. I did not sprint. I felt ok with the ride so far and just watched the attacks of the others. That was interesting 🙂 … it’s always so great to ride with the Muckers…. see you next week

What a race! Firstly i did nasty weather running warm up when i was told im not normal to go run in such conditions. Secondly when i jumped on smart trainer, hr meter did not connect. Did my best in 20min into race, nothing helped. Race started with totally flat course and Tuden / Gilmad tried brave early breakaway. Our group worked hard together and we smashed 100m after 10-15min or so, pfff. Group was now 14 riders, but few attacks followed and before end just nine stayed. My legs were burning as i creamed them with heating cream for rain running, but looks it also helped towards sprint finish. Potato medal is max i could achieve, very happy with that, thank you all who joined!

  5. HalAir says:

    Good to be back!
Been focussing on a tailored training plan for the past month but tonite my schedule would fit an hr in Muckers land 🙂 It´s my recovery week and have a MAP-test tomorrow, so didnt want to go too deep, but not Z2 either!

Rolled off the line at a gentle 2,5w pace in 48th place, and noticed Neil and DokPS was not far behind so wamred-up untill we joined up and formed a nice little group! Dok was working tonite, spending a lot of time around 4w, a pace I could easily match at around 3w as I am considerably heavier than Dok. The flat terrain favoured me in that regard. So me and Dok would alternate in front for much of the time.
We picked up a few more riders + Grochang a little before half point, and we stayed together towards the finish.
I made a few attacks to stress the group a little, to make sure we kept the speed up 😆 but other than that we just coasted by. I decided to try to take the group win in the sprint, and launched a ramped power attack starting 1km out. It secured me a good enough distance to control the last 200m 🙂
Crossed the line in 33rdplace, after close to an hour with IF 80% with 74% of the time in HR Z4.

Thanks for the race all 🙂

  6. Niels Brynnum says:

Flat race but turned out quite hard, – starting with a strong effort by the chasing the group wheeling in Tuden and Gil who had left the start line like 🚀🚀🚀 After they got caught there were various attempts to reduce the front group but not until 10 km before the finish line the attempts pay off and reduced the group to 8-10 riders. I was looking forward to the sprint but missed it completely as the ones started the sprint was ghosted 👻 for me so I already lost 20 m and the riders 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 in front of me were/are impossible to catch once you miss their draft. Super fun race !!
