Tuesday race night and like Digital Underground said back in the day: do what-ya-like! But our 7pm race did have a little but of a challenge tonight with an add on route from another challenge being scheduled to start 55 minutes after this. So basically giving you around 54 minutes to get this done if you wanted to be on the start line for the 2nd route…. if you weren’t bothered about the second one, then you do you! But averaging 24mph is what its gonna take to do it so drafting is pretty much tonight’s challenge!

101 on the start line and it was a fast and frantic, slightly downhill start so you had to get up and over 20mph asap!! then it was try and hold on for as long as you could and have a race! or chill… up to you….

8 way fight for the win! And all regular and familiar names as well!! well done to “hinsbergen” on getting the gold, “Gil.Mad.io” for the Sliver and “lrollin” for the Bronze! Then the next 5 came in: “IvanSagan86”, “Simon_Hahnenbruch”, “RocketRoy”, “karel_sousek” and “Stefan_Schmidt”. We then have another pack, this time of 4, racing for 9th with “Tuden” getting the nod over “tranberg”, “perswe” and “Owni.d” in 12th. 3 riders next who seem to have been able to be solo over the line with “m-forby” in 13th, “BTK_jiri70_cz” in 14th and “adampel” in 15th, but then normal sprint racing resumes with “Groenen” beating “Dariusz” for 16th and “KeithOldGit” beating “macko” for 18th. That leaves “Guthinger-Mike” to get the final mention in a top 20 with very few NEDs compared to the other running’s of this race!

Well done to all who finished, and we also want to give a shout out to those who are suffering glitches out there! We know they are happening and ROUVY also know but as soon as you are a DNF we have to leave it as that as to try and work out where everyone might have come, off different peoples eye witness accounts is basically a hiding to nothing (wonder if that translates properly 🤔) and as riders, we are already over this race and already thinking about the next one! Shit happens and it happens to all of us as some point and not one of us is happy to get a bump up in the standings because the rider in front glitched out. Well, no Mucker would be!

Please, Please, Please have a look at the shop. its the only way we fund all of this and we are adding new items all the time. If you have any suggestions for merch, please drop us an email/comment etc and we will get it into the shop asap.

Okay, that’s it for now. See you all on Thursday for the championship race that is gonna be another draft-tastic affair.

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

33rd. I am getting so worried that i am going to get dropped from the pack that i think it might be making me try harder!! Looking at my stats, i was over 70% in the draft yet i finally averaged over 240 watts for the first time in ages! What was i really putting out there when i was actually not drafting!? 😮

So the race, went as hard as possible at the beginning and was in/around 45th place… not bad, but luckily in a big group. so i hung on and eventually found my rhythm and was copping ok. The group got bigger, we caught some, and some splintered off but all the way i was with Mick_Micheal and always another 4-8 riders so we were motoring along all the way.

Final sprint was coming and it was a 9 way fight for 29th! lined up ok, overtook a few but i came over the line 5th out of the 9 and totally spent! loved it! But the mental concentration needed to just make sure you’re not going to get dropped is erm mental!

  2. Steven Ludford says:

My objective tonight was purely to assess my FTP value. It’s hard work doing a full FTP test and we rarely get a race route close to 1 hour with no freewheeling descents, so it’s not an opportunity to miss. It was my first ride under the new drafting feature, it will take a little getting used to but I had to ignore it and not allow myself go into the red trying to stay with groups and risk ruining my test.

Ultimately, I froze on the finish line for a DNF but luckily for me, Rouvy registered the ride and the crucial data I needed to see. So happy with that.

Summary: FTP pre test manually set at 290w.

    20 minute highest average: 307w
Using the 95% of 20 minute figure this would estimate an FTP of 291w.
(Note: this 20 minute figure is within a 50 minute effort, it’s fair to suggest a higher wattage would be possible if only doing 20 minutes effort – possibly adversely creating a higher estimate)

Race Average: 296w (based on 50:23 time)
Not quite a 60 minute effort but I was finishing strong and had enough for a sprint. A similar FTP (to the 20 minute estimate) of 291w would be reasonable to assume over a full 60 minutes.

As this represents little significant difference from pre test FTP number and it wasn’t quite a full 1 hour effort I will continue with the manual 290w setting.

Sorry to bore you, it may benefit someone learning about FTP. You can see that 95% of watts for 20 minute estimate is a fair estimate but I would always recommend you do a 1 hour test at some point to validate your ‘actual’ FTP wattage number.

    Race stats: Age : 57, Weight : 95kg, IF=1.028
    Averages : 153bpm, 296w, 3.12w/kg

  3. Kyle Goodram says:

This race was tough—600 feet and 21 miles, a relatively flat race with plenty of opportunities to utilize Rouvy’s improved drafting feature. It was meant to be a training session on Tuesday (Race or Pace), but it turned into a race pace for the entire 21 miles. I started and found a decent group of about 10 riders, and we flew along. However, my Wahoo Kickr Core made me struggle on the flats and downhills, making it tough to hang on to the back of the group. Nonetheless, on the uphills and slight inclines, I managed to stay with the group. After 15 miles, I got dropped. Fortunately, I spotted S. Ludford, a fellow Mucker, slowly catching up to me, so I decided to slow down slightly and work together to finish. However, another rider named Grupedo joined us. So the three of us worked hard to reach the end. I thought we could take it easy for the last mile, but there were others right behind us: Andy_UP, SillySiNL, and Squalo_delle_Alpi. So S. Ludford and I pushed with around 4.5 w/kg all the way to the end. It’s unfortunate that S. Ludford froze on the finish line, resulting in a DNF. I know he finished; please, Mucker1974, place him in the correct order just behind me by 0.2 seconds.

    • Steven Ludford says:

Nice fluid group we formed with Grupedo … it worked very well. I really don’t mind the DNF on this race as I achieved what I set out to do … and thanks for slowing and waiting, I spotted it and appreciated it, it helped keep the chasing pack at bay.

  4. Bjm151 says:

You Europeans are fast! I’m usually on the 2LATE4ME, but took the afternoon off from work so joined up for the main race. I was in a group with Mucker1974 ranging from 35th-42nd place when all of a sudden I got dropped at about the 10 mile mark. Not sure if my PC froze for a few seconds, but was never able to catch up or hang on to another group. Had fun nonetheless and hopefully I can join in for some more main races.

    • Neil Rushby says:

omg, i forgot about the glitches! I glitched early in the race, it kicked me back about 60ft as we went round a bend!! so i had to stand up and power back on which was kinda ok as it happened early and i could do it. if it had happened later on, i’d have had no chance!

its really scary everytime ROUVY do an update as something like this always happens but to random riders. i hope it doesn’t last! 🤞🤞🤞

I remember you with us for a while and actually thinking “im sure this riders normally on the late race” but then the group kicked again and i lost my train of thought and just seeing your post now reminded me! I bet Jettro missed you!!

thanks for commenting Mucker and hopefully see you on another race soon.

  5. Mike Hagen says:

Tuesday group pacing: some of us decided to work together with the new drafting and see if we could create an efficient paceline peloton. We had me, SillySilNL, Squallo_delle_Alpi, and DolphWader under the capable leadership of Andy_UP. We lost Dolph partway, but picked up tomlerieger after he started late. We were a bit ragged, especially when overtaking the nielsbrynnum group, but much fun! Effective too: even at only 0.85 or so IF and zone 4 HR we averaged over 40 kph. Gonna keep working on this, then, folks, watch out for the blue Mucker train!

    • Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

Well done for the first 🚂 group training, something to improve, a bit noise elastic mood but when we worked a bit more good it’s seemed a little Eurocity on binary 🤣.
      Thanks at all 💪

  6. Batbuilder says:

I had a nightmare start to the race. Just before start time, I was warming up and the bolt holding my saddle on snapped, sending me sprawling on the floor, demolishing a small table that was behind me. I know that Rouvy is the most realistic cycling app out there, but adding falling off and injuries takes it to the next level😁.

By the time I had found a replacement bolt, cleaned up the the splintered wood and blood it was 10 minutes into the race. I set off in 100th place but managed to catch a few places to get 77th.
