MUCKERS Vietnam Race 4 of 6. 22/06/23
Rouvy Route used Ninh Binh | Vietnam | 14.85 miles | 209ft climbing.
Route 4 from the Vietnam challenge and also the 4th race in my 6 race Vietnam challenge
38 registered | 26 finishers | 3 DNF | 9 DNS
200ft. Should be flat….. right??? Definitely didn’t feel that way when those climbs finally came up and you were trying to either stay on it or at least on someone’s wheel! What a fast and frantic race this was tonight!
Top 3 had an amazing battle coming home under a second between them all! “Simon_Hahnenbruch” getting the gold, “quicknik80” the silver, and “Risckys_GURE” the bronze! all 3 with an average speed of 26.95 mph !!! amazing!
4th, and top Muckers Worldwide rider, the Canadian rider “MikeHagen” who just managed to pip “transberg” over the line in what looked like another tight finish!
6th came regular rider “nielsbrynnum” who still hasn’t got a team name ( hint hint!!) followed by the top brit and strong rider “robbiedoo” in 7th.
“Andy_UP” next in 8th and making it 2 Muckers in the top ten with an impressive ride, followed by fellow Countryman “stinjnley” in a strong 9th place.
Final mention goes to the Irish rider “rmadden1” who just beat a duo of Muckers to that all important 10th place! superb ride with an even superber (not sure if that’s a word) 24.39mph average.
Can i just say to those who don’t have a team name, please feel free to be part of Muckers Worldwide. I see alot of you now every race and I thank you for that and I hope that means you enjoy the group, and if so…. you are a Mucker!! Also, if any of you want to join our little WhatsApp community ( 21 members from all around the globe as i type) then drop me a private message and we will get you added.
cheers everyone (please scroll down to see how the championship is going after 4 rounds!)

Todays top 3 hadn’t taken part in an of the others Vietnam races in my championship, and the championship leader, “Tuden” was a no show!! so 4th place “MikeHagen” took the best possible points (and a nice gap with only 2 races to go) and a few others looked to either overtake “Tuden” or at least close the gap! 61 different riders have taken place in one or more races in this championship after todays race, so are you in the top 20? see table below plus the link to the next race.

The Banter was strong today on the group chat, and not one of us offered to help another! 😂. i was so nervous before the start but soon got into it and even put some dubstep music on as well just to scare me even more!!! finally came over the line in 15th place after what was the most intense race I’ve had in a while. nice group of 4 coming up to the line with Squalo finishing 1st and i was just behind after starting my final sprint wayyyyyy to early! What a good race and a nice haul of points to keep my 5th place… for now.
Well done to be on Top 5 in GC!!! Your effort well worth it!
Good race , lost connect for approx 20seconds , which isn’t to much but on a flat course it’s curtains. Managed to get some power down to catch squalo first and then Neil’s group. Was able to stay with them but on the sprint my legs didn’t have a lot left after burning too many matches to catch up. Points in the bag though and the next route is alot more hilly approx 1200ft of climbing so hopefully I can hunt down that 5th place from Neil.
i’ve just heard you might be too busy to race next week Mucker! 🤣😆. hope you get your set up sorted though as its a shame its letting you down at the moment. cheers for taking the time to comment!
That was a great race! I think everyone knew Simon was the class of the field, big group following him the first few km (the Rouvy panorama shot of the peloton about 2 km in was cool). I was fortunate to be on his wheel when he did the surge that got him away. Got dropped, but quicknik and Risckys came by and I hung with them for a bit. Got dropped. Then tranberg came by and we worked together to get a good gap on Andy, Niels, and robbiedoo. With 8 km to go, I’m thinking about the finish; probably no way I’m beating tranberg in a sprint. So I try a half dozen times to drop him, but no-go. Stubborn fellow, our tranberg. I got him to go ahead with about 800 m to go, watching him, he went, I went, did the stupid sprint thing, and I pipped him! That hardly ever happens, so very pleased!
well done Mike, so not only are you getting stronger every ride, you’re now getting your sprint finish dialed in!!! looking good for the championship now Mucker! fingers crossed for you and Andy!
And Kin! We can sweep the podium on this thing, Muckers!
I am doing my best, finger crossed!!!!
are you definitely showing up for the last 2 rounds Mike?
Absolutely.
Nice round-up Neil. A lot of good effort in this one with less than a one second difference between the 3 top finishers. Almost had a true tie.
Good job all!
cheers Chris, the mini championship has really gotten the riders and Muckers engaged in these 6 Vietnam races!
great battle in the group from 13 to 18, a very tactical race. Finally a race where I have riders near me to race as a team. The hills inspired me a lot and I wanted to push, but I didn’t want to burn all my energy. In the end we had a final rush where maybe Neil started a bit early and I was able to stay in front. Thanks also to Robinagy, Ryano, Irollin and Derrydingle, Top race for us 💪
I Agree, fantastic group and challenge! Loved it!!!
I don’t have much to say here as I was riding solo til the end after ~3km. I couldn’t catch the group in front (4 riders) despite my best effort. It seems I have been riding solo in most of the races recently… 🤔🤔
You just had bad timing of missing my group.
We need to team up next race. I can’t win in the sprint, I will be your lead out man!
For sure! Maybe, when I’ll get a bit stronger I can lead too!
the solo effort situation is a tricky one isn’t it but from my experience, i prefer to let the group behind catch up and just work with then to hopefully have a sprint at the end. its miles more fun that just a solo effort.
Another great race. I was trying to follow Andy to join the fast group, but the pace was too fast for me. Lucky there were stijnley, rmadden1, and robinagy got drop around the same time. We managed to take turns to ride at the front. robinagy got drop halfway. So just stijnley, rmadden1 and I rode together to the finish line. It was first time race again them, but it turned out they are great sprinters. rmadden1 was riding at 12.x w/kg and stijnley was doing 8.x w/kg at the last 100m. No way I can follow them. Just missed the top 10.
Really happy to be at the podium for the GC, but I know TUDEN will come back and bumped me off. LoL
If Tuden shows up, and wins both races, you have to be 3rd in both races. If next race we are racing for 3rd and 4rd, I will let you have it, but chances are very slim. A lot of very fast riders show up recently. I only can imagine what is going to happen in winter!
Thanks Andy!!! I can only dream of being in 3 or 4 in a race! Still need lots of training and power. I will enjoy being #3 in the GC for a week. 😉
well done Kin! tricky situation now, with just needing to max the points for these next 2 races, but isn’t that making it all a lot more fun!!! Good luck!!
Short flat route, I wanted to go all in. Trying to follow Mike to battle positions in the championship. I know I don’t stand a chance but tried it anyway. Started with a big group but as expected, couldn’t follow the fastest riders for more than 8 minutes. Lucky me Robbie and Niels had to let go along with me and I could draft them till 1K to go. Mike took a big lead in the championship, but due to Tuden no show, I went from 3rd to second place. Looks like I should be at least hold this position.
Tudens No Show was a big surprise and now you are in a nice position in the GC Mucker. 15 already registered for the next round as well! Well done so far and thank you, as always, for commenting
Ya just like kin kwan tried to stay with the quicker group but just didn’t have the legs so was in a small group of 4 then 3 and just made it in to top 10 thought kin kwan was unlucky not to get a top ten really helped out with the work in the group
Ps what do I have to do to join the team
Itwas great to ride and race together with you! If I knew you are such a great sprinter, I would hide behind your wheel more. LoL
It was funny that all three of us attacking at the last small hill. All of our power surge up….
hi Mate, just transfer 1 million pounds to my account and you’re in Mucker!! Or, just Update your team name to Muckers Worldwide, and i will send you a private message on Rouvys messages on what to do. Cheers for becoming a (strong) regular Roy, its great to have you racing with us ( when i say “US” i mean, “THEM” as you are way stronger than me!😆) and thanks for commenting
Ohh I thought it might be blood in blood out😁
Well yesterday was the solemn moment that I first time managed to start the race in time so keep up with the peloton 🙂 (the crowd roars)
But what is more important I have to say there was no rouvy-race (I’m on rouvy cca 2-3 years ago) where I really gave all out at this extent. Strava says tha it was a 98% intensity activity, but it lies it was 100%.
I found only one activity on strava from February where I did more watts on a race (but february is much cooler and includes way more oxygen than mid-June 😀 :D)
So about the race. I am always stronger at the start (and anyway I felt song enough for now) so I knew I have to keep up with the strong guys at the beginning. Okay not with the top 5-10 guys but the second group, there was Rmadden1, Stijnley, and kin_kwan, it was a nice group with a steady pace. Sometimes I felt nobody would really likes to lead (least me, as my HRM was around 170 before the 2nd kilometer, ant there was 21 left..)
So there I tried to figure out when should I break (not away, but back :D) from them, but it was nice to see I can keep up with them till the two-third of the stage. Then came the good old own pace that is really the hardest stuff when there is quite a few left in the bucket. I was just looking at my back who will be on me soon 🙂 There was of course the well known Mucker1974, Ryano and e.b.ward8 (thanks for coming mate!! 🙂
But finally Chak was coming and overtook me, so tried to keep up with him for a while. Not too long it had no sense to give all out too early, but it was also a little help. So, to the and it was a solo ride, I was thinking that it was today that the TT national championships too place everywhere (in Europe, or worldwide?), so let’s try to do some TT stuff 🙂 So I could keep my 13th place.
It was all EPIC for me. Thanks for all!
Well done! Nice to ride alone with you. Hope we can race to finish line together in the next race 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
great racing and superb account of what went on from your point of view! exactly why we love this comment function on these race reports. Thank you so much for taking the time to add this!
May I recommend you to use Strava (who is not yet there), and maybe also switch on the flyby visibility 😉 It can be a fun to see how the race really went, who-where did what 🙂
It was my one:
