Muckersworldwide.com Sunday Big Race. 19/03/23

Rouvy route used: San Bartolome de Tirajana | Gran Canaria | 25.69 miles | 2824 ft of climbing

Route 4 from the Ready for SEASON??? | MEDIUM challenge on Rouvy that ends in 7 days

28 registered | 11 finishers | 1 dsq | 16 dns

Mothers day in the UK meant the start time for this couldn’t be the usual Morning time for my Sunday ride and I’m guessing this is why we had quite a lot signed up for it but 16 no shows. People probably registered when I sent the invites out weeks ago and possible didn’t see the odd start time. Anyway, 11/12 of us were on the start line for this, So all but 1 had a chance of top 10!

So off we go into a short-ish climb first and the pack is quite nicely bunched on what turned out to be quite a stunning route. You basically do the short climb first, then a nice downhill into the monster climb! by the time you’ve done that, you’ve done just under half distance but you’ve also done 2500 ft of the climb and now only have 260 ft to climb in the last 13 miles. A definite route of 2 halves!

The top 3 in this race came over the line within 8 seconds of each other! after 1 hour and 21 minutes of riding, it came down to a race over the line! The American “Coffeehi” claimed the gold, “Gael64990” the silver and “Loki1972” the bronze then a 3 minute gap to “audax” in 4th who was closely followed in by Muckers Worldwide rider “Shrek-1970-Challenger” for a very strong 5th. Slightly colder weather out in Florida must have helped the ogre stay cool for this race!

Only around 30 seconds later came team mate “Chak” in 6th, just over 4 minutes behind the winner. Fellow Canadian rider “RoyZ” in 7th came next, though he was about 8 minutes down to the road from Chak, and a few minutes up the road from “petercook67” who finished 8th.

9th came “OliveH” who was swapping places with Peter all the way along this route but eventually beaten, then finally “Mucker1974” came over in 10th, a good 22 minutes behind the winners time, and just in front of “BeeDee” who kept the pressure on and finished under a minute behind Mucker.

Rouvy seem to take an age to classify the results so the chart below doesn’t have all the usual information on it that it will have eventually, but I wanted to get the race report done tonight while i had the chance rather than the usual next day. Well done to everyone who joined the race, I hope you enjoyed it and please let us know in the comments how it was for you, its always great to read your take on the race, and I’d love to know what the story was with the top 3 as well.

cheers.

Finally a top 10 for me but 11th place made me work for it! I felt quite strong up the first climb, coming over the crest in 8th, nicely in front of petercook67 and oliveH and well in front of BeeDee. happy day….. or so I thought! Got to the first split which was just at the base of the monster climb and I was still in 8th, hundreds of feet in front of my 2 closest rivals and a massive 1.5 miles in front of BeeDee.

The climb starts and I quickly realize I am not in a good place after the beer and shots last night and had to just back off from the grinding 230ish watts (that id done quite easily up the first climb) and revert to a fast spin 190ish watts and see what happens. Obviously peter and oliveH pass me and I try to hold on but I fail and decide i just need to concentrate on BeeDee behind and try not to get passed and dropped by him. This turned into a long-long hill that I think BeeDee saw I was struggling on and mounted a charge and got to 500ft behind me but this was just at the steepest part of the hill near the top and I’d just started to feel a little better so I put an effort in through this steep part and tried to keep it going to the downhill side!

At the start of the downhill I was over 3 miles behind peter and oliveH but importantly to me, I now had a 0.3 mile gap to BeeDee which I was confident I could maintain to the end. I just about did it but he kept the pressure on but once I realized he wasn’t going to catch me at the line, I finally backed off a rolled home to10th, feeling very rough indeed!! 🤢

    Neil,
My second Sunday a little low on MUCKERS. I get it…still learning new things at my age. So, HAPPY MOTHERS’ Day to you Lovely Ladies in HSM Commonwealth. I knew it was Father’s Day in ITALIA or should I say, Festa di San Giuseppe!!!

I was actually in 1st position at the approach to the 1st climb and was putting down 3.2W/kg thinking to get a MUCKER Gruppetto setup for the day. WoW!!!, that 1st climb, I guess an Ogre with Nothern European Blood loves 15℃. The Supercharge was in the green for some POWER RUNS!!! I love physics, especially in Supercharged Engines❄ I needed that…with two 5W/kg efforts to stay with the Greppetto. I was smelling some burning oil on the descent 😱

Second climb WTF!!! Those guys put the Horsepower down!!!! Chapuex Gents!!!🍻 I did all I could to hold, BRAVO!!!! The continued 5W/kg Hammers got me…I’ll need to work some STRENGTH Training in…More Wheelbowers with cars I think. Thanks “Cdtchris” 🧐for the idea. Ogre just needs to get stronger 👹 A great day of racing thanks to all who came out!!!

PS who got DSQ? There were some strong rides up front.

¡Hola!
