Review of LollypopUK’s Rocker Pads on Etsy

First review of the year for me, so where to start?? Maybe at the beginning which for my experience started 6 months ago. I was approached by the owner and designer of these home made in the UK items, to see if I would be interested in testing the Version 1 of this product that should allow a bit of movement to the WattBike Atom V2 I am using to do my indoor workouts on. Seemed an interesting alternative to the very expensive Rocker plates that are out there so I agreed and eagerly awaited my delivery.

About 3 days later they were here and I just lifted up each corner of my trainer, slid them under and jumped on a ride. What a difference! loads more movement in the bike which almost made it feel nearer to a real bike. A few more rides in and I am still loving them although I can’t help worry I am going to gradually work/vibrate the Wattbike’s feet off them. I am advised I should centralize them every ride, which I did for the first 2 or 3, but as this is a test, I wanted to see if I actually could work my way to the end. I never did, they must settle down once they get so far forward and just stay there but I was happy I’d pushed them further and at least now wasn’t going to fall off them after some of my more intense or longer sessions. Being half way through a ride and realizing you’d not centralized them would really ruin a ride ( like when you forget to grad a towel!!lol) so that self induced worry was now eradicated.

After relaying my findings back to the company owner/designer, I was informed they had a V2 version and they’d send those for me to try! A few days later and they turn up. This Version has the center “prongs” removed from middle of one side which means the bottom of the Trainers feet, meets a more flat surface. Interesting Idea…..

I give these a go for a few weeks and I do notice any type of creep has now gone, but there’s less movement in the bike. This is totally understandable as I am now just on one level of “prongs” rather than the 2 levels of the V1’s. Really great item, but for me, and maybe because I actually have trainer set up in a spare room with old carpet down on the floor, I kind of already get a little bit of movement due to that so these ones only change my feeling on the bike ever so slightly. The image above, and videos on the sellers store on Etsy, really show them move a lot, which makes sense on tiles, or solid floor, but once that lower level of prongs digs into the carpet, there’s no top layer of prongs to move the bike about.

So I love both products and its been really interesting testing them. I relay my finding back to the designer and he’s happy with my feedback and I am even happier as he allows me to keep them. I now have an idea! Lets place the V2 on top of the V1 and see what happens!! This is totally my Idea and not something the designer asked or recommended. But my theory was by combining the 2, I basically get 3 layers: 1 layer of prongs to dig into the carpet, a central band of prongs where the 2 versions are placed together, then the more flatter top part for the trainers foot to sit flush!

A you can see from the photo above, I loose the first row of prongs in the carpet so this adding of the 2 together has really made this work perfectly for my set up. I’ve had it set up like this for nearly the last 3 months and I’ve not had to re adjust the trainer or these pads at all. Today whilst taking the photo I did think to take them out and inspect them all all look fine. I flipped the bottom one over anyway and slotted them back under the feet.

So you really don’t need to do this, especially if you have a solid floor, but if you are on carpet, maybe buying a set of each might be just right for you. Even buying a set of each is still cheaper than some of the other options out there but I can totally recommend these, especially for Wattbike owners. I really have given these a good test with some epic indoor sessions and championships over the last 3 months, and i am not exactly a lightweight at 88-90kgs and good for a 10 second 900watt blast as well!

They are available for other smart trainer combos (Elite, Stages, Tacx, Kickr etc etc) so please check them out at Etsy and search Rocker Pads with lollypopUK as the seller.

Great review Neil. I’ve always had my Direto XR set up to not move at all. Maybe I’m missing out and should investigate.

Great review, Mucker shame a don’t have a Wattbike. Do they do them for the Kickr Core?

Kyle you can select your trainer model before purchase. Kickr Core is one of the options on the drop down menu.

I’ve just ordered an Elite Justo which already comes with squishy feet so will be trying something similar soon. My Direto XR-T is going to Karen (Kaz1bar) to upgrade her from her Elite Zumo. She used it yesterday and the difference was night and day. No lag on power input, better road feel and much better resistance changes.
