MUCKERS 2025 DECEMBER CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 3.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

Kinsale | Courtmacsherry | Ireland | 23.54 miles | 1,066 ft. climbing

ROUVY SAY: West Cork at its finest. Starting in the town of Kinsale we head to the beach at Garretstown and then on to the beautiful coast road to the villages of Timoleague and Courtmacsherry, This route is part of The Wild Atlantic Way, a real treat for any visitor.

WE SAY: thankfully we are on some normal roads (unlike Tuesdays mad bike bath route) riding through some nice Irish scenery and the best bit, on the correct side of the road! 😉

But we also say, that was a great route for our last “proper” race of this years championship. I’ve never been to Ireland even though it wouldn’t be too hard to go and it looks really nice. Gotta love ROUVY and how it really introduces you to places all over the world, in real HD realism and not cartoon simulations. I think sometimes we loose that appreciation but it’s kinda why we stick around isn’t it?

OK, lets see if everyone’s done and crack on. No one is left on the “later-on” race (the last later-on race as it’s not around next year as it’s moved to the day before as the non-draft RECON version) so lets hit the completed button on NITEOR.

Just had a quick look to see how many registered riders we had over the 9 different start times and we had 397 people register for this race. 178 different riders set a time. lets do the rules and see how many left. 136! well done everyone and thank you for keeping it as real and fair as possible

Lets go!

TO FINISH OFF:

So just a TT race left that we set up as the last race this year due to next Thursday being Xmas day. We’ve arranged start times over 3 days so we have the 24th, 25th and 26th covered so we hope you at least find a start time you can get on the bike. All are non draft so you can use the TT bike, and don’t worry if no one else is on the start line with you as this last race is all about you verses the clock. We won’t even use the 5.0w/kg rule on the TT races as its all about you verses the clock and we leave the w/kg rule for draft races.

We have produced a blog in the last few days explaining our 2026 schedule, rules and regs. We are open to any feedback or questions between now and the end of the year so if you have anything to add, please have a look at it and pop a comment in if you want to. This is the only time for us to thrash anything out as once the year starts, that’s it, nothing will be changed. You should get the basic gist of what we are trying to do if you read it through, but i am only human, so i don’t think for 1 minute i have covered everything so please let us know if you see anything we should have in there.

Nothing much has changed for this world championship, just a few minor changes. We have gone back to a “race within a race” concept for Tuesday like we did a few years back as now we have NITEOR we can do it again and it be taken care of by the system instead of my fingers and toes and lots of paper all over the place! SO you can stick to the flat out/do what you like version like this year as that will be there no matter what, or focus on the w/kg event that’s happening at the same time, in the same race. If you want to concentrate on the w/kg event, you just need to try and finish with an average w/kg of 2.0 on the first week, 2.3 on the 2nd, 2.5 on the 3rd, 2.7 on the 4th and on those 5th Tuesdays in the month, it’ll be the closest to 3.0. Then when we hit the next month, we go back to 2.0 and work our way up as the month goes along again. The closest to the w/kg figure you are, the better your points will be. We are doing this for those who fancy training rather than racing. but still with a competitive edge to it. for some going so slow for the first few will be a challenge, for others trying to reach 2.7 and 3.0 on the last weeks will be the challenge! You don’t have to hit the exact figure, just be as close as you can be but at least you have a set goal for that race rather than just go as fast as you can. I’m as excited about this as i was for the Sunday Hill climb and that’s been great. We just like to try and find different ways to do things rather than fastest, strongest, lightest! We save that for Thursdays. Anyway check out the blog as its all in there.

ok, lets wrap this up. Thank you all for the continued support, thanks again for all who got involved with purchasing the merch and lastly thank you to all who read this to very end.

As always, I get brilliant ideas, warming up for the Christmas challenge and arriving 2 minutes from the start… stress mode on 😅. I get off to a good start and for the first two climbs I manage to keep pace with a difficult group for me. When everything settles down, I’m lucky and I find my friend Slyfly and Rouvy1bryon around me. We push together and, along with 2-3 other riders, we begin a team effort that I’ve rarely seen for so long. I needed to find watts everywhere, and each of us helped out up front.
Conservative tactics on the descents, recovering at every possible moment, the race is still long and treacherous.
In the last long descents, our hunt is over, we maintain a speed of around 40 km/h. Maybe we’re too relaxed? In fact, I’m keeping an eye on a small group of three. I know one in particular well, and I’m not entirely confident. 😜 The gap is closing, and then Sharky starts to pick up the pace. I want to keep at least 500-700 meters behind Klinthomie, my friend Bates1980, and maybe Pontiak…
In the end, everything went well. I enjoyed the team’s work so much that I didn’t even think about a final sprint. Slyfly deserves the position ahead of me. Thanks for a great run, I achieved 3rd place in A5.
Merry Christmas to hall, and see you soon for the next races 🫶🏻💪🦈

    • Klinthomie says:

After getting dropped several times on the first two climbs, I found my pace and I was feeling great in my legs. If only the race would’ve been 10 … 20 k longer, I would have caught the shark!

      Till next time, sharky! 😉

      Thanks for a fun race!

    • Paul Bateman says:

You smashed it mate 🙂 Everyone helped each other like a team this week. Really cool race

    • Neil Rushby says:

well done Mucker. you are smashing it at the moment!

  2. Klinthomie says:

Best in A6?! I will take it! That was not expected.

What a pretty route! I chose Rouvy because of the “real” routes and augmented reality part and routes like these are the exact reason why. I was a bit worried that I would miss out on big races and great communities (compared to Zwift), but I am so happy with these races and the sense of community the Muckers bring – they keep me extremely motivated and it is a lot of fun. I am looking forward to each thursday night.

I spent my first 50k on a new set of wheels and man – what a difference aero wheels make! However, I do still find myself getting dropped on climbs. But then again, I do weigh a lot and that is expected. Hopefully my weight loss continues and I can progress this way.

I got off to a great start, was in the front right up until the first hill. Got dropped and the I tried to be smart and wait for next group. These guys dropped me again. I tried to stay with Sharky and a lot of the other household Muckers, but alas – I could not hold on.

I found myself sitting outside top 50 and I could feel my morale getting low. I got dropped by Paul Bateman and another bloke on the last hard climb and I found myself yet in another small group. This group was not working together and I was doing all the pulling, so at some point I clinched my buttcheeks and drove away – succes! I fought hard and caught up with Paul Bateman again, and him and I had great teamwork. Thanks, Paul! I felt great all of a sudden! At some point I even thought I could catch Sharky & co, but they were too far ahead (6-700 meters) and the route was too short 😉

All in all, a really fun race and a perfect race route. Thanks for organising, Neil!

I did the Wednesday recon on my TT bike with a 54 chain ring, but without drafting, it is impossible to compete. The drafting on Rouvy makes so much difference. With my new kickr, at least, I fixed my power transmission issues into Rouvy. So I will be better in these competitions next year and I will try to get on the main races as often as possible. Happy holidays to everyone and thank you all for the fairness and Neil for your energy – even though I must admit I still don’t understand all of the rules and just as a personal view – liked our old racing style with less races and more simpler principles more. I would also like to do longer races, like 60-90 km to maybe take these sprints at the very beginning out of the routines. It is so untypical for cycling and it benefits the riders with more weight and power… I usually have to catch up from the last positions, but this does not happen in my real life races … I also think that races could be more tactical as larger groups would stay together if those jump starts would not happen like now. Finally, I would love to do the Feldberg here in Frankfurt as a race with you guys 🙂 … I think this was now my fifth year with Muckers racing even though I could not participate in so many races this years as I was riding outside… All the Best Patrick

    • Matthias says:

“…take these sprints at the very beginning out of the routines…”. Not gonna happen! 🤪

      • Chris says:

Why not? If the race is let’s say 75 km long, it’s better to save some energy rather than sprinting right from the start. There is a Muckers race at the end of the year, but that’s much too long (180 km). Too many extremes 😉

Personally, I no longer participate in short, flat races because, with my weight and strength, I can’t finish in the top 50 or 60% on such flat courses. That’s why I prefer hilly races where I actually have a chance. On the other hand, the Rouvy Challenges have to be completed somehow and addressed here as well, and these challenges are usually quite short.

        • Neil Rushby says:

Yeah Chris, we will always try and stick to racing the challenge routes. And sometimes the challenge routes can get a bit “samey” which is kinda why we do this as they’d just get a bit too boring one after another as a just ride, where if it’s a race, your focus is on so much more than just the profile.

ps… the end of year big race blow out has to be extreme!

      • Neil Rushby says:

that’s your favorite part isn’t it!! Matthias and his trying to get a screen shot of no one in front of him! lol

        • Matthias says:

Join us for the 180km end-of-year race and watch me fly off the line. It’s not all about winning but having some silly fun.

    • Neil Rushby says:

Hey Patrick thanks for jumping into the comments! I really don’t want to make the Wednesday RECON race drafty as it really is just there for those that can’t or think they can’t make the Thursday race. So this is as good as it’s gonna get for that race. But at least gives riders a chance to get some “basic” points in rather than a 0.

Its been a crazy ride from the beginning of the Muckers races, where we had 10 – 20 riders and a lot of regular names every week. It’s just progression, i think more and more people trusted we were always gonna be there on certain days and so more and more people came along. The problem then is bigger numbers and the cheaters come along and want to win them. We had a horrible few months with just blatant cheaters coming and getting no help from ROUVY at the time either. that then ruined it for the others, so our own rules and regs had to come along. it wasn’t something i was aiming for, all i wanted to do was find a way to get us all to do the challenge routes together and the only way was by creating a race and it just steam rolled from there. So maybe when everyone gets bored of us, we will see a return to what you want lol.

it’s funny you say this about the starts. I remember a while back asking ROUVY to do rolling starts and these rocket starts on all these different bikes just isn’t fair as those who have the right bike that talks to ROUVY a certain way always get the jump. I’ve developed a tactic at the start that seems to work ok with the Wattbike, but its only good enough on downhill starts. up hills, i have to hit 7/9w/kg just to get into the top 40/50 and then get passed by riders doing less than half of my power. So annoying but i eventually get passed anyway later on even if i do get a good start as my weight and crap power on the climbs isn’t great lol

Is that an invite to Germany??? or a race on ROUVY?? I’m intrigued……..

Always ride outside when you can Mucker! one day we will have to stay indoors and time is flying by (or is that just as i get older?) Just know we are here on our regular days if you can’t get out!

  4. So I did have a plan. Just cruise the Kinsale event, save the legs for the CEO. My wife and I visited Kinsale just before the London Olympics. It was like a second honeymoon for us. So I was just zone 3 ish enjoying the views, mid field at best. But somewhere there is a tailwind, and I am slowly moving up through the field, but very calm. Somewhere in the middle of the second climb sequence I look around, the there is Grochang and Medein. When do I ever get a chance to ride with them. Over the top, and we are in full race mode, together with a guy Stefan793 . Decision time. I make a deal with the devil…full race now, dont save the legs, and the heck mwith the CEO event to follow.. Hang on like grim death on the decent, and then it flattens out..the four of us together, and motivated.. We are all working it. Then at 10 K to go, I see the nose of Ludwig at the bottom of my screen..oh no, the big dogs are only 250 meters behind with 10 K tto go. I can hear the voices of Phil Ligget and Bob Roll in my ear..” the small break away will have no chance.the big dogs, Ludwig, Yumile, akoval, Andy_Up, EddyDomino will swllow them up on the flat run in to the finish” Our tiny band of 4 flees onward. By 3 K to go Ludwig is only 150 meters back. At this point I go to the front, nose on the stem,k pushing my 52/11 as hard as I can,,we are all in, Grochang puts is a few useful surges..and at 1.5 K all of a sudden the chasers sit up. We are home free. There are some 17 other racers ahead of us doing their fierce racing too, but today it was Grochang, medein, a guy named Stefan, and me.
I am wiped out. I slide off the bike, pop a caffinated GU, chug some water. Still 12 minutes to the CEO deal. But what about the deal with the devil? Neil said we can be comletely chill until we get to the 2 minute or so effort with the CEO. Mike Hagen and I start out in the wrong race, but with maybe 10 seconds to go teleport over to the real event..I will let Mike tell you what happened to us before getting to the start with seconds to spare. Shortest version, Grochang only about 2 seconds short, and i was 5 seconds back..If I had saved my legs maybe I would have been 4 seconds back.
Oh, Neil, a little while ago you posted a challenge of doing a no more than zone 2 effort on some mountain in Saudi Arabia. Can you send it again please. My legs are sore and this weekend I fancy giving it a go. TIA, and cheers

    • Neil Rushby says:

Paul, that was a great read and I’m sure a lot of people can relate to it! Well done on the CEO effort as well. Luckily another Mucker pointed out I’d selected the wrong route a few hours before it started so i quickly edited it! Identical routes, but you had to select the route with the title “beat the ceo” and not the actual route they used for it. It was a good little challenge/idea but if i ever schedule one again, i will do it as a warm-up and not an add-on race!

  5. Hans says:

Looking at the different scenarios of the route with two early climbs followed by a very long flat finish I almost started up with a worst-case-scenario (not counting glitches, technical errors or sudden electricity black-outs of course). I followed the front group of 12 on the first climb only to be dropped ALONE as the first on the second and a lot steeper climb with over 25 km mostly flat still to go. To be fair I was not even close to be staying in the group, but since they apparently went crazy fast with over 7 w/kg for more than a minute there is no need to be too let down. Thankfully the next group that caught me after the top only consisted of 5 riders and we were able to stick together for the rest of the way with fine teamwork ending with a sprint. Thanx for another fun race guys – it’s been great riding with and racing you all the whole year 👍🏻

  6. karel sousek says:

Holiday treats for lunch, late afternoon run and Muckers race for dinner. I was so tired after the run that almost fell asleep while warming up 70w for the race. When i turned fan on before the start i knew it will be fun. Two tricky climbs, filled with flat and descent. Thirsty thirty riders entered the first one, but the second was game changer. Short and painful 7,3wkg for a minute at 185 bpm, it is as it is.

From here we stayed seven eight, losing one guy in descent. Strong trio with Duke and Bretson not far behind, we had to cooperate a bit. Few attacks by Adam and Velobuch, ending with sprint finish. I did fine slightly over 800w (wow), but five guys were better. Great race, thank you everyone who joined us!

  7. Neil Rushby says:

didn’t realize I’d not left my report till now. I had a cracking start then dropped on the first climb but my legs were already aching! 3.0s meant i was basically stood still as riders streamed past until i was caught by familiar names so now its time to knuckle down and see if i can stay on. Did ok for a while with valrdz and Regina but just as were getting to the top of the climb, i couldn’t stay with Val but was dropping Regina. Still a lot of road in front of us so i backed off and hoped me and Regina could do a duo effort to the end.

we did really well to be honest but it was an effort to keep Sunniva and her group from catching us as i really didn’t want to risk any more points in a sprint with her and the other 4 or 5 riders in her group. Usually a duo doesn’t stay away from a chasing pack with so many in it, but we did it. Thank you.

  8. Peter Havard says:

Hi Neil, just looking at invitations for upcoming events.
The warm-up on 13th January (Death Road) – is this supposed to be on the Challenge route? …if yes, then it is on the wrong Death Road (there are more than one DR) if no, then it’s good to go – just checkin’ :)…..EatmorCake

    • Neil Rushby says:

Hi Peter, you are right! I’ve changed it, how strange as i actually wrote down “death road | yungas” in my pad from when i copied it from the challenge list!?? No idea where i go death road from as i was only on the challenge page, looking at the route option tiles when i wrote them down.

Anyway, that’s left me totally confused, but i have edited the race to feature the “Yungas Canyon” route. Thanks for the heads up!

  9. Sunniva says:

I was riding in a good group, giving it my all. Yes, when we saw Neil at the front, the group accelerated, but I knew Neil had strong girls with him and they would get away from us. It’s amazing how strong the girls riding with us are 🙂

    • Neil Rushby says:

Yes i was lucky but it was a shame Val dropped us as the 3 of us would have been even stronger and i could have stopped worrying about your group lol.

Also really impressed with the ladies and how we are getting more and more regular ladies racing with us. Its always been a 51/49 thing for me to do a separate ladies leaderboard or not. I’m 51% thinking why single you guys out when you compete so well with us all anyway, then I’m 49% thinking a separate leaderboard might encourage more? or would those who are the bottom of a ladies leaderboard get discouraged? So this is why i i leave it alone as I’m not fully convinced one way is better than the other.

  10. Klinthomie says:

Noooo! I had an accident with my bluetooth for the TT race today and missed a couple of minutes. I finished anyhow, but just wanna make sure – can I redo the race at one of the later times and if I beat my time, that time will get updated?
