Sartène to Bonifacio | Corsica | 30.71 miles | 2,001 ft. climbing
Yes, you read that right! A race but 30 miles long! We saw this challenge route pop up and we just thought we’d see how such a route worked out as the first race of the month rather than our usual hill climb. It’ll be very interesting to see how the categories shape out after such a long ride as well.
74 riders set a time over the 8 races we run so lets get everyone’s categories set up, then apply our 3 rules. 66 left which is a great result so lets filter everyone into there leaderboards and add in everyone’s ballast.

What a tough race! Well done to everyone that finished this beast, and especially those who got some decent points on the board. Did the experiment of a longer 1st race pay off? Yes and No. Yes as in we have more people spread over 8 categories, and No as we don’t have anyone in the Elite or A1 cat. I am sure we might have a few turn up over then next few weeks as there categories will be whatever they put down in there stats when they joined. This little issue is why we will only be awarding Bonus category points in 2026 to the riders in the top 5 for the month that have done all 4 races in that month. So if you want the bonus points in 2026, you need to be at that first race so we can set your category for the month. We definitely need to use hill climbs though to set them. This was fun, but didn’t work out as well as we want it to.
That’s it for now.
Hopefully see you next week and thank you for the continued support, it really wouldn’t be as good as it is without you all turning up!
co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...
Man that was a tough route. I fancied a bit of fun at the start so did the old rocket start to see if i could hang with the hitters. This was fine until the very end of the first yellow section where it just ramped up and i felt a strange pull in my left calf. went down the next green section ok, but when we hit the bottom, i was feeling something off in that left calf which meant 2.6/2.7s were okay, but the 3.0s i’d planned were out the window. Luckily i had Mick with me and every time a train caught and passed us, he would see i couldn’t jump on and then he’d come back to pick me up! Nothing was arranged or chatted about, he just got it. He had messaged me in the middle of the race but as i am currently using my phone as my screen due to yet another ROUVY update that my old ipad cant handle without throwing a glitch-wobbly! so i have my phone on do not disturb as the last thing i want is a phone call or something mid race! lol.
Nice enough route, but that ending really spoiled it when you came out of the tunnel and hit the 32%. It was like hitting a wall of glitch! one minute your doing 40+mph through the tunnel, then it all buffers and you are not moving and it all dropped down to 3mph and then gets going again! what a real shame but it is what it is sometimes isn’t it. Lets see how next weeks goes.
first of all, extra kudos to LinV and Nelsonsnyder…with only a few clicks left, they were a fair ways back, and then they closed on me like I was standing still. I went back and checked and was doing about 4W/kg when they flew by. as for the last bit of ramp, IRL that would be where it would have been quicker walking. Feedback? really good job Mucker 1974. if this is the ranking setting race of the month, it was a really hard and honest course. something for everyone..the rollers, climbers, endurance animals. other than that, it is starting to feel to me that I am functioning as a carrot in these Muckers . keep being run over at the end. I may just tape a 🥕 to my head like a timing chip. hop to see everyone next week. cheers
I liked the route! It was great! Even the 32% climb at the end: it encouraged me to do 700 W for five seconds; nice to know I can do that, so that is good, right? Had a couple of glitches. One at the start kept me from the fast groups, and a drop-out in the middle had me lose the group I was with. But nelsonsnyder was pulling a group up from behind and I waited for them, thinking that’s the best way to get back on with the group ahead. Which is how it worked. But keeping up with Nelson, Oh My God. He very kindly waited on the hills, but I had to hold mid-upper-3s which was brutally hard at this stage of my recovery. In the end, catching Andy_UP, bikeanddogtrips, and (YES!) MatthiusHeil, made my day. Really believe I’ll be back to normal in another couple of weeks.
As some of you know, I have commitments which prevent me from joining (and finishing) many races. Today was sadly one of those days. Missed the start of the main race, but was able to get into the final instance 1 hour later. I didn’t have much hope I’d set a top 50 time given how few were in the race, but then I noticed TonyOldGit was also in my “heat.” He doesn’t show up in our results (I don’t think he wears a heart monitor), but I knew from riding with him before that he’s strong (and old like me!). Things were going great – we were together through mile 21 with him doing most of the work, but then “real life” started interrupting. First time I lost his wheel. Ugh. 2nd time I had to actually abandon the race – only 4 miles from the mostly downhill finish. I’ll never know how I’d have finished up -“The wall” very well might have broken me. Tony ended up with a very respectable 1:16:09 (would’ve been 31st if he’d made it through the HR monitor filter). I doubt very much I could have held his wheel to the end – even without interruptions – so no way to tell “what might have been.” The important thing is I did get to ride 21 miles at a strong pace, through beautiful scenery, and trade a few pulls with someone stronger than I – always a great way to get fitter. Cheers to all who participated.
After my holiday don’t start very well this week, 2 bad run with pain for my legs and no bike for 10 days… when I connect for the race I see 50k and for me was a surprise… I hope to do good but I’m not very sure…
At the end, I rode a very good 3 parts of race with many top friends, RaTim, Chack, Duckman2 and for a bit also with Mike and Ludwig. I don’t resist in the last part to hold their pace, and I lost my advantage on others, but I finished this effort race without other problems… my legs work good but I’m not happy for my w/kg agv, much less that I want to do.
Thanks to all who ride together 🤟🏻👋🦈
Another 👍 thumbs up to Nelson from this rider. He was in selfless cooperation mode gently pacing groups up to the next group on the road, always willing to take the pulling role. The pace was good but more than I felt I could sustain for 90 minutes, so I stayed as long as I could in respect for the assistance then dropped off, but it was nice to watch from behind as the assistance was freely given to multiple riders along the route … kudos.
Tried to assist bkeller3913 for a short while but I didn’t really have the legs and decided to warm down as I had go out immediately after the race.
Summer strikes back with another episode of famous Muckers race series. Long race over one hour. We started with group of twenty, making it smaller by each attack. There were not many of them, but they did the difference. I noticed that i miss short power bursts, no wonder as i was walking, running or cycling for most of the day. Wifi connectivity issue for couple of seconds, but i got back the the main group.
Key attack launched by Stadler caused we stayed only four with Premek and Baremi, who attacked in last climb before final section. I tried help to get his back, but no way. Final km with moderate incline, followed by very steep ramp in remaining one hundred meters. Signs of cramps, potato medal is all i could get. Thank you all who joined us, exciting race!
