MUCKERS NOVEMBER CHAMPIONSHIP. RACE 4 OF 5. 23/11/23

ROUVY Route Used: Biggesee | Germany | 16.53 miles | 905ft climbing

148 Registered | 120 Starters | 105 Finishers | 15 DNF | 28 DNS

120! YES!! 120 tonight on a route that’s just too long for a flat out sprint, but not long enough for an endurance effort, somewhere in-between! So whos going to be strong and fast enough to get into the top 25 mentions???

Before we get into that, can I just take the time to remind everyone that we really want to keep my races open to all trainers. But we need you guys who ride a “dumb” trainer to please make sure your figures are as accurate as possible. I need Heart rate data (By us being friends on ROUVY) to at least show your figures have been produced by at least giving it an effort. But some of the figures are starting to look a little “off” so we am issuing this little request now and we will assess it more during December and make changes in the new year if we feel we have to. Okay race mentions!

Proper fast top 4! “luca_ma” winning the sprint, with “Gil.Mad.io” getting the bump to 2nd and super strong regular “karel_sousek” getting bronze! 38 seconds later comes the next rapid pack with “magayol” getting 4th, “A2-448-JAMES-ROBINSON” in 5th and “IvanSagan86” in 6th.

We now have the next 5 riders finishing in just under 2 minutes behind the winner! “Stefan793” claims 7th, “Pfeffer” 8th, Top Muckers Worldwide Rider “Grochang” getting 9th with Mucker team mate “Gazinho” following up in 10th! Well done guys, 2 Muckers in the proper Top 10!!

“lrollin” just gets squeezed out of the top 10 in 11th, with “Muckers Team Rider “nielsbrynnum” in 12th then a 3 way sprint for 13th which was won by Mucker “batbuilder” , “Rocket996” in 14th and “hj2010” in 15th. 16th comes fast regular “yayarecki” with yet another strong Mucker “tomlerieger” claiming 17th.

18th to 22nd places are separated by just 17 seconds and came over the line in the following order: “Grep.” in 18th, Mucker “DonJulio” in 19th, “neminemlaedere” in 20th, “Michelleke” in 21st and “boogybill70” in 22nd. Well done guys and that must have been close at a few points!

Our very own Muckers pocket rocket “Andy_UP” gets a nice 23rd place, with “Libor81” getting 24th and in the final mention (yep, 25 mentions tonight due to over 100 on the start line), goes to 8th Muckers Worldwide Team Rider “MikeHagen”! 8 of us in the top 25 pleaces! So proud of you all!! well done!

So did you get a mention above? we do have a special t-shirt celebrating this achievement in a fun way, but we also have more serious merchandise, even some recently added Christmas items which will need ordering before the end of the month to get before Christmas day. Thank you everyone who has purchased items recently and in the past, any purchase really helps keep all this going so we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

We have also launched our 2024 cycling tops (4 superb designs to choose from). please look for the blog on the site where we have actually explained the process and reasons for the designs we came up with.

And finally, we love feedback and comments! the more the merrier!!! We all love to read how the race went from your perspective, especially if the person reading it, was racing you at that time!

Cheers everyone, blog with the championship table will be published tomorrow after the 2 later races.!

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

53rd!!! i’m getting so close to getting into that top 50!!!! what a race though, I’ve definitely turned a corner recently and am amazed that I can stay consistently at 3.0 and above now for a lot longer than I used to be able to, it just feels great to not bonk out as soon as we hit a hill! Tried to race intelligently and draft as much as possible when I could, and then take a rapid drink without letting the gap open up just as quickly and get dropped so it was pure concentration all the way to a sprint finish win against the super fast flyger! enjoyed that!

  2. Mads Grosen says:

Did I wind or did I lose tonight? Thought we lost the front group too early, but I wouldn’t go chasing them and then been drop in no man’s land later on. I also had a date with NielsBrynnum, who would carry me to the finish line, so I stayed patient in my group. Me, Lrollin and NielsBrynnum got away, but right behind, our Danish rider hj2010 were catching up on us, which couldn’t be better to have two Danish trains in front of me. Unfortunately hj2010 had to let go shortly after his return, and it brought Stefan793, Pfeffer and Gazinho and a few others to our group, fighting for 8 to 15 position.
Before the race I told NielsBrynnum he shouldn’t wait for me, if I couldn’t follow his lead – cause I was in the early stage of a flu. But on the contrary my legs felt really good, and on the last ramp I went all out and had only Stefan793 and Pfeffer on my tail. On the top I had gained 15 meter to Stefan793 and in my mind I said, keep pushing he will fall back with Pfeffer, but my legs wouldn’t follow my mind. We gathered together and caught our breath before the sprinted. 500 m to go and hey Stefan793 push 12kg/W and I took the challenge to chase him, but I was too exhausted to match his kilo watts and Pfeffer got in to my drafted and were also too strong for me tonight.
So the question is, yes I won having Lrollin behind me but no, Smith793 gained important points towards me.
Had I lots of fun tonight and I’m very privileged having supported teammates around me – Thanks everybody🙏 Looking forward to try my soon coming Mucker Jersey IRL😉

  3. Steven Ludford says:

Legs really tired before this race, decided to start race at 3.0w/kg max and only increased it if I saw drafting opportunities ahead, unfortunately that kept happening so I was dragged into a race I didn’t plan on doing. Ended up in a good group with Pan.Rorisi, runner2003, Sezrecs, rogertrainer and Farnham teammate Hoppytherocket. Everyone was taking turns, my turns on the downhills, surprise surprise. Hoppy did a massive pull on that long gradual hill so I was really pleased to see him take this particular group sprint at the end, I knew I was coming last in that sprint so decided it would be easier to lose it by 30 seconds rather than 0.1 seconds…and would you believe it, it was. It feels like time for a bit of rest.
    Race stats: Age : 56, Weight : 95kg, IF=0.992
    Averages : 151bpm, 278w, 2.91w/kg.

  4. Manuel Lamber says:

This challenge is beautiful, hard and particular. I decide to take a risk and try to push, I want to catch up with a nice fast group and then we’ll see. In fact, up until the halfway point I hold on, I see MikeHagen, Svard, MatthiasHell, chorus and jakimati in the area but I already know that I can’t do it forever… in fact I lose the wheel and remain in no man’s land with my legs for a while who smoke. Luckily Pavelfoltyn and HeikeHardt came to pick me up and give me a shock, I literally stole an emergency from them, then I was happy to hold the final sprint well, where I almost caught Jakimati on the line… but the fuel was almost finished . Nice average for me today of 301 w

    • Neil Rushby says:

Well done Shark Attack!!! every time I feel I’m getting stronger, you are even further up the road!!!

    • jakimati says:

I left a little late and it took me a lot to get back, when I caught up with you I was satisfied, I was less strong, I decided to save a little and push at the end with one eye on the distance with you.

  5. James Robinson says:

Pleased I just about managed to make the race! I got a good start and held on with the front group to settle in for a tough few miles. I struggled on to stay near the front until just past halfway point, at this stage I led up a steep short climb but must have used the last of my power as several riders sailed by at the top and I had to let them go.
I ended up getting caught by ‘IvanSagan86’ who seemed strong and put in a few digs but seemed to back off each time so I was able to stay with him until the final sprint. I found a bit extra energy for the last half mile and was able to take 5th so happy with that…
    Thanks all 🙂

  6. Mike Hagen says:

Bit disappointing today. Looking at the championship standings after 3 races, I was 11th; really want to get into the top 10, but there are a whack of riders nipping at my heels. It won’t be easy! Tried to hammer the start as I knew a good start would be crucial this race. Couldn’t do it. Settled into a very large pack of 15 – 20 riders; too many to count, almost, but we were jostling for positions 20 – 35 or so. Tried to hang on but just didn’t seem to have the anaerobic pop to grab a wheel, go with a surge, or bridge up to someone leading out. And then when the climbs began in the second half, I got dropped. Sigh. So 32nd, or 25th without the NEDS. So it goes; not all days are good days. But I know some riders had very good days today, kudos to those who did!

  7. Thomas Rieger says:

Was ready for the start of the 4th race and went in full gaz! was very surpraised to found myself at around 35. place, the competition ist getting stronger and stronger, not like that when therer were only Neil(Mucker1974), Kyle)Kylofski and I. We were a huge pack with very strong Muckers riders like Donjulio, Chak, Matthias, Mike, Tranberg and many others. Workd well together but I had the problem that I could^nt see all riders on the list in front of me and there ist no draft from them, Still a big rouvy bug! I recovered as much as possible an tried to hold a strong pace on the last littles bumps. A gap of 35m was openend to my chasers Tranberg and Donjulio but I could keep it till the finish. 21th place, 17th after NEDS! Thanks all of you to race, was much fun!

    • Tranberg says:

I almost caught you at the end! Problem was I could not see you in the entire race, which was also the issue when I closed the gap solo when you attacked a few kms out and we were caught again. I really enjoy Rouvy, but that bug is really annoying. Impressive that you kept us behind us at the end. Well done! Also, need to get that HR monitor so I can start earning some points.

  8. Gazinho says:

The perfect ride for me, attack at the beginning try and form a group in front of my GC rivals. Which always reconnect whatever I do !! no mike or smit wow this is going to be good 😃 got a break with stefan793 and pfeffer doing all the pulling. Managed to distance my GC’s and suddenly lrollin, grochang and Niels appeared I knew I had a chance to ride with these strong riders and I took it and had a blast staying in a stronger group. I think lrollin was being generous to me in the sprint and managed to bag 11th my proudest moment in a Mucker race. My goal was to do the best I can as race 5 will be damage limitation. Thankfully I got lucky following two strong riders that really made my ride. 346w average and 86kg new ftp

  9. Kyle Goodram says:

I couldn’t make this Championship Race as I was full of a cold. I watched it all live YouTube. Great race, will be back for the Finale next week, climbing race, my type of Muckers Race. See you then.

  10. luca_ma says:

    Hey! My first win!
Fast start, finding myself in top 20, so I needed to push a bit more. Was thinking on GC so, looking for breers33 (the GC leader) and then just waiting for what will happen.
And nothing was happening until the half of the race, where there was a short hill. I was expecting attacks, so pushed to be in the front. I got few meters and when saw breers33 is closing the gap I pushed as much I can to make us both suffer a bit. When he catched me, we had like 50m gap, but (as expected) he did not want to help pull. So we waited for the rest of the group. Then everyone was just waiting for the final spurt. Like 250m to the line I launch my, pretty late, but I was still the first one to start. Which was aparently the key to the win today.
But not seeing breers33 in results is a bit of shame, not sure what happend, but he was behind me till the end I guess.

    • Andy_UP says:

      Congrats!

    • Brian Ward says:

You weren’t on my screen 90 percent of the ride luca( neither was most of the group we rode in ) it was a time trial in the main for me – rouvys latest release has done me over – you weren’t on my screen for the sprint either so I had no idea when or if you attacked – I raced procat ( only rider I could see at this stage ) and beat him to the line and the game froze after the line – my result is on the route leaderboard but didn’t get included in race – a shame – i think i was in front for a majority of the race too .. these things happen what can you do .

      • luca_ma says:

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully Rouvy will fix these issues soon, it happened to me several times too, but their support is not helpful yet…
Maybe Neil could put you in results if your time is in route leaderboards… would be great also for the last race 🙂

        • Neil Rushby says:

congrats on the Win, I’m really sorry for what happened to Brian and if it was as easy as just popping him back into the scores, i would, but last nights are all done and added to the spreadsheet already so its another few hours to adjust everything. , plus a lot of people are glitching at the moment and i really can’t set the president of re-visiting every race due to what is a ROUVY issue and not a Muckers issue. I got glitched out of the first race so i understand the feelings, so i hope you understand why I can’t start messing around due to glitches. Hopefully it will all be sorted soon.

          • Brian Ward says:

No worries Neil, that wasn’t something i was suggesting or requesting btw, just another poor show from Rouvy, shame i was enjoying the Thursday night battles and it was a good workout especially for over the indoor/winter months, but plenty of other indoor platforms and events to jump into now that Rouvy has peed me off :)…

          • luca_ma says:

I do understand. Just another type of technical. Hopefully Rouvy will do some work on these issues. Looking forward for the final race!

  11. Niels Brynnum says:

Really pleased to see, how the Muckers races just increases in numbers of participants 🚴🏻‍♂️💨💨💨 Massive kudos to the Muckers godfather Neil Rushby ! I missed one of the championship race so I am far behind in the GC so instead of racing I’m dating 😂😂 Mads G 🇩🇰 to support him in the GC 🚴🏻‍♂️💨💨 however his legs seemed super strong today so I think my support was limited. Right from the start it was full speed ahead 😅 I was in the front group for a while but got dropped and settled in the chasing group with Mads G, Lrollin. From the the leaderboard I could see a super strong 💪🏻💪🏻 hj2012 🇩🇰 closing the gap to us together with equal strong 💪🏻💪🏻 riders Gazinho, Stefan793, Pfeffer and BareRemi. Unfortunately hj2012 legs weren’t super yesterday and we lost him in the group. I tried to pull as much as I could to reduce to group and improve Mads G position, we got a little gap together with Stefan793 and Pfeffer coming into last little hill. At the point my legs felt heavy and I couldn’t keep up their pace so the race kind of ended there for me and I rolled the last part in an easy pace. Great race and thanks to all the riders 👍🏻 participating

  12. Batbuilder says:

A chaotic start with 100+ riders hurtling down very narrow paths full of pedestrians and real world cyclists. There would have been a lot of casualties if it were to happen in reality. 😊
I slowly progressed through the field riding with small groups of familiar names, I got passed a few times as well but eventually manage to catch back up. In the end I caught up with Rocket and hj2010 for a sprint to the line, I think I reached my max ever heart rate in those last few seconds. I finished 13th or 17th accounting for the heartless, my best ever postion.

Wanted to start fast, as it was mainly slightly downhill untill a too long half way climb. Got in a nice group with (too) strong riders (for me) racing for 15th to 20th position. Could hold on over halfway the long uphill. Had to drop back. A group passed with Don Julio but I was too empty to hold on for long. Libor cought up to me with 1.5k to go, and he showed big numbers to do it so I thought I stood no chance in the sprint. I went very early, 350m to go, slightly uphill, 7w/kg. Somehow, he couldn’t come alongside me. 1.10 IF says it all, it’s been long since I was so ghasping for air after the finish, and that in a race less than 40min. Happy with the result and what a big names standing around me. (Like Mike Hagen, Svard and Matthias Heil behind me 😮 )

Great to have races with many riders. Sadly enough, for the second time I am kicked out after 2 km , ROUVY app just closes after some freezing… so I apppear again as DNF. Hope that there are not too many starters in my case and that new release will solve this problem which started with the last release.

At 66Kg, no Cervelo S5 virtual bike and a significant downhill I was always going to struggle on this course. Despite my usual Rocket ™ start to get into the lead group I found myself ra;pidly slipping down the leaderboard and was in 40th position by the time the descents had finished. Now it was time to make my weight work for me so power up and head down and I set to work reeling in those in front of me. Managed to drop the group I was in and bridge across to the next group on a long incline by holding 5W/Kg for a fair few minutes. Caught my breath for a bit in this group then off again to see if I could catch more riders and settle into the next group. That was it from me as the next group was pretty strong and I could only manage second in the sprint out of this group. I may have made the top 20 but not sure as others have pointed out there seemed to be a problem with the Rouvy results. I quite often had riders 1,2 maybe 3M in front of me on the riders list but there was nothing showing in front of my avatar and I was getting no draught. Has anyone else seen this issue? Great race everyone now get your gearing sorted for the 25% incline on the final event next Thursday. Thanks Muckers.
