MUCKERS OCTOBER CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL RACE. 24/10/23

ROUVY Route used : Challenge Florianopolis | Brazil 52 km | 32.77 miles | 1063ft climbing

158 Registered | 99 Starters | 77 Finishers | 1 DSQ By ROUVY | 21 DNF | 59 DNS

This came around so quickly! 4 totally different profile routes and we are on the last one which is the longest by far, but not the steepest.

“Alieno79” gave his championship points the best boost possible by getting the win tonight with “karel_sousek” just 14 seconds behind in 2nd. “Dennis_R” claims 3rd, Just in front of the championship leader in 4th. Is that enough to win the championship? we wil have to wait till tomorrow to see. Not too far behind in 5th comes “Alan-H” whos has a nice gap to the chasing trio of “Risckys_GURE” in 6th, “pasjordi60” in 7th and “luca_ma” in 8th.

Just 4 seconds later comes “nelsonsnyder” in 9th very closely followed by “krisskinder” rounding out the top 10! for a 32 mile route, to have a top 10 with just 4 minutes and 4 seconds between them, just shows the quality we are now getting onto these Muckers Races, and this is the first time we’ve had a top 10 that all conformed to the regulations! Well done and thank you all!. But we had 99 starters tonight so lets do a top 20 mentions and see whos the next 10 best riders of the night:

Danish Duo and top Muckers Worldwide teams riders “Grochang” in 11th and “nielsbrynnum” in 12th came next, with German rider “s.p.” in what looks like a little bit of no-mans-land in 13th.

We next have a photo finish sprint out with identical times posted but ROUVY give “lrollin” 14th and Muckers rider “tomlerieger” in 15th, closely followed by “Gazinho” in 16th and “leonelcunha” in 17th.

18th comes “Grep.”, 19th “Stefan_smit” and in the final mention position, Swiss rider “pfeffer” in 20th and only 8 minutes and 44 seconds behind the leader. What another list of 10 strong riders and another 10 that didn’t get a bump up the order because of a non-complaint rider! In fact, the top 23 had all followed the rules of the muckers races so all these positions are as legit as we can quickly check and be happy with.

Final Championship Positions will be in a separate blog tomorrow evening, as we still need to let the 2LATE4ME version of the race run and finish, then we can add up all the points and see where you all came.

Thanks everyone for taking part tonight, this was a long route and we all beat those 21 riders that didn’t finish for whatever reason! Plus tonight, you should have received the Muckers Worldwide Avatar kit as a special thank you for taking part in the last race of the October championship!!

Remember the only way we keep this going is by purchases through the store and if you got a mention tonight, we do have a special T-Shirt celebrating this achievement in a variety of different languages. If we’ve not got your language, and you’d like one, just drop us a line, let us know how it would sound/be wrote in your language and we will produce it asap! The last thing we want to do is google translate these item, and the ones we have already on sale have been done with the help of the Muckers Worldwide team riders who speak those languages!

A massive thank you to al of you who have purchased items, it is a win-win as it really helps us out and you guys do end up with a quality and unique product as-well.

And lastly, if you’ve raced with us, it would make our day by adding Muckers Worldwide as your team name, you are part of the team now and you’d be helping spread the word when you jump on other races and events and they see your team name.

thank you again and see you on the next one!

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

Really wasn’t feeling this tonight after a shocker of a showing on Sunday so got warmed up as best i could and just set off hoping to maintain a decent power and heart rate. Once things settled down, i was in roughly 70th place and started to pick off a few riders but i soon ended up in no mans land and a pure solo effort. I really wasn’t closing in on the 4 or 5 riders up front but was getting caught by “macko” so i backed off a touch and once he came past i jumped on and he pretty much pulled me across to the pack! a little bit of rest and he was off again so i jumped on again and we caught a few others up but then we hit the first of the long climbs and i just lost that draft to him and he was gone. Now in another pack of riders we got going and we were ok, but every now and again I’d see the 2 Farnham riders behind cut the gap down to an uncomfortable gap and i’d have to take a turn on the front again to get us back up to a speed that hopefully put the fire out! but it didn’t and the odd big power surge had me worried but luckily we kept the gap and it was a sprint finish between my and Slyfly” which i just won and crossed the line provisionally in 51st place. nota bad race but i still need to improve as i really have hit a wall!

I really wanted to have a good final race, I felt good, maybe I could recover a few positions and stay in the top 20 in the general classification… we’ll see tomorrow. I made an excellent start, I had struggled to catch up with a nice fast group, if I’m not mistaken with MikeHagen, Groenen and maybe Rens… around the 24th position, but around 13 km, like in a comic but perhaps dramatic film.. .my wife gets locked out of the house and I have to leave my bike and go to the door 🤣
Result 15 positions lost 🤬 and here begins a race without strategy at full strength. I cycled many km alone and that didn’t help me, then I couldn’t contain Kyle… and I concentrated on recovering on batbuider. I wanted to stay in his draw to recover a moment to challenge him in the sprint, but in the end he wanted to accelerate with 1 km to go, I stayed close but not enough. Let’s take this 36th position and 🤞 our fingers for the final ranking. See you next time 💪

Wasn’t sure how I could help our danish leading friend Tuden on the Grand Final October Race, but a very big shoutout to Danish hj2010 for leading the way for Tuden at the Gun start – respect here from 🚴🏼‍♂️💨👍 hj2010 tried later to fight his way back, on his own to the front pack without success🥵
After 5K the front pack were split into two groups. The Chase group became Snyder, Brynnum, Gure, Pasjordi60 and myself. It was obvious that Gure and Pasjordi were waiting for making the snake bit, so Brynnum, Snyder and myself tried to make a solid teamwork effort – Brynnum took several turns up front and I had to compliment the same effort but not as long as he did💪. Brynnum and I had the three kings waiting and we just hanged on to Snyder at the first climb and then Snyder step 6kg/w at the 2. hill and we were left as the danish duo to the finish line, where Brynnum gave me the sprint for the 11th place – I own him ☝️😉
Thanks Neil and Kyle for giving us all the opportunity to race against each other and make exciting news and storylines👍👍👍

Well done Mads and thanks for the comments. Looks like the Danes really raced for each other tonight! Glad the championship element helped you guys have a goal to aim for rather than just try to win. i believe it really give the race something extra. Cheers.

My legs felt quite tired after a couple tough hikes this past weekend, so I planned an easier zone 4/5 ride for today.  After the start I was in a really good group of about 10 – 12 riders in the 20 – 30 position, more or less, and that was very fun.  At times on my screen I’d see two, three, four blue-jerseyed Muckers ahead (and sometimes Andy_UP, in his Ukrainian blue/yellow jersey).  That was really cool to see.  The odd thing was that we would pass Pfeffer every few hundred meters then he would teleport up to his group again.  And repeat.  Clearly having connection issues, and it must’ve been very frustrating.  All was going well, then we hit the double Monte Verde climb at km 30 and that broke the group up.  After the climbs and into the last few kms, I was in a group with Rens_Piccavet, neminemlaedere, Groenen, and quiaozhi.  I knew from Muckers pre-race chatter that Rens was hoping to move up into the top ten in the October Championships GC (I wasn’t in contention ’cause I missed the first race) and I’m thinking it would be nice if Rens got in first of our group of five for maximum points.  How can we make that happen?  About 3 km to go, Rens is leading with me second, he gets a little gap, and he goes.  Ah ha!  I just sat there.  The other three didn’t, I don’t think, recognize what was happening, but when Rens was about 30 m up Groenen surged and tried to bridge up.  He closed a bit, then I went ahead and sat up.  We did that a few times and finally Rens was 130 m ahead with 1 km to go, and safe, hopefully.  Even when I raced IRL 30 years ago, I don’t think I ever had a chance to do any blocking while a teammate was going on a break.  It was really satisfying to make it work.  Good job, Rens!

  6. Henrik Jørgensen says:

Did everything right today and even in a very good time. Turned on power to the home trainer, put the charger on the iPad and downloaded the route, filled the water bottle and finally made sure the chain was greased up really nicely. Nothing was to be left to chance. However, it turned out that it was all about to be dropped on the floor in the very last meters anyway. The route doesn’t really suit me, and even then there were a few reasonable hills on the way to the finish line. But there was very flat terrain for my taste😉 and I think it is difficult to manage the forces on such a long route, as you (I) might have a tendency to give it too much gas in the first third. But off we went. Niels brynnum started like lightning and thunder, and it took a while before we got him in, and you started to be able to sense a front group forming. It consisted of strong strong riders like Nelson Schneider, Karel Š, Alieno79, Dennis_R, Alan-H, Kriskinder Grochang, Niels Brynnum and probably a few more that I don’t remember (sorry guys). A high pace was set right from the start, but it didn’t take much climbing on the road before the first started to fall behind. I don’t remember the order of who fell by when, so you’ll have to bear with me. When we had passed the last hill, Aliano79 was about 60-70m ahead of Karel and I, and a few hundred meters behind us were Dennis_R and Alan-H. I had run into a minor crisis on the last hill and really didn’t have the strength to chase Aliano79, although I could sense that this was what Karel wanted, but my leads became very short and weak. In relation to my position in the Mucker’s Championship, I could easily manage Aliano79 winning the race, as I just had to finish no worse than 5 places behind him, to keep him behind me. So no problems because I was with Karel, who is inferior to me in a sprint on a flat road (sorry Karel😉). My second place in today’s race should be safe. We gave up on catching Aliano79 and drove towards the finish line. When we were 250m from the finish line I started my sprint. However, Karel did not answer, so second place was secured. I THOUGHT..🙈 100m from the finish line, something completely insane happened that I have never experienced before. my iPad just chose to close the Rouvyapp 😳😳 So while I screamed no no no and a lot of very ugly words, I had to log into the app again with email and password and everything, and join the race again. But the damage was done. Karel had long since finished and Dennis_R came roaring from behind only 25m behind me who hadn’t had time to get the bike up to speed at all. I just couldn’t pass him again in the sprint and ended up in fourth place. Hugely frustrating way to end this Championship when you consider that I’ve already been hit by a flurry of NaN’s in one of the other races. You lose all confidence in the electronics and want to throw the trainer and iPad out of the garage door😆, but have cooled down now and think all in all it has been a great experience to drive this Championship, where more strong riders are coming to the starting line each time. Really cool to see that all the work put into Mucker’s Worldwide is paying off. And then we’ll have to see if my fourth place today is enough to take the win in the Mucker’s Championship 🤞🤞🤞

    • Neil Rushby says:

what a glitch to happen!!! i’ve had that twice before and its so weird isnt it, one minute your riding along figuring out what to do, the next your on your home screen on the ipad wondering what you’ve done! great report and i hope you did enough….

      • Henrik Jørgensen says:

never happened to me before, but im glad im not the only one it has happened for😆 But would rather that it do not do it again in the future, it could really F… up ones race😉😡

  7. Henrik Jørgensen says:

By the way, I can recommend going to YouTube and watching the video Mucker’s Championship Final race👍 Go 17.30 minutes into the video and see Tuden stop just before the finish line 🙄🙄 In retrospect, it’s actually quite funny and a bit comical 😆

  8. Gary Taylor says:

My race drama’s seem tiny in comparison to tudens finish line epic, I was settling for an easy 250w or so I thought after 3 days at a theme park. Holding 400w at the start should get me a respectable group to ride with. I was so wrong my 250 turned into a 310w effort. We had a strong group that turned the screw on each climb, I found myself chasing on the flats to catchup. Overall a great ride with a brilliant finish from lrollin and Tom. I couldn’t see several riders the whole race even though they were on the board. Offering no draft when close either, i completely missed lrollins final attack as I couldn’t see him but no complaints as I could see Tom. I thought it was strange that Tom made a move at 4wkg 3km out and just watched him go. Thinking I will catch him later and then realised lrollin was with him 😂 thanks to all the other riders around me helping pull to bridge to grep and co. Time to lose some weight as these climbs are killing my 88kg arse

  9. Kyle Goodram says:

The last race of the championship had over 150 riders registered. It covered 32 miles with 1000 feet of climbing. The course consisted of long flat sections with a few small hills, which didn’t make it an ideal race for me to improve on my 13th position in the championship. In fact, I was worried I might even lose a few places. My goal was to stay in the top 20.

As the race started, I found myself in 58th position, which meant I wouldn’t earn any points for the championship (you needed to be in the top 50 for that). I knew this wouldn’t be an easy task. I pushed myself as hard as I could on the flat sections and managed to work my way up to 49th position by the time we hit the first small hill. I was so focused on finishing the race in a decent position that I didn’t even remember who I was riding with or chasing.

By the time I crossed the finish line, I ended up in 37th place. This race made me realize that I prefer lumpy or hilly rides over flat ones. I look forward to the next race on Thursday and want to extend my gratitude to the Muckers for an awesome October Championship. See you all on Thursday!

    • Neil Rushby says:

hey Kyle, fake new alert!! 😂😉 Top 50 are awarded from 100 points all the way to 245 for first so those are the positions to try and finish in, but i still award points from 51st downwards but starting at 95 points and dropping 1 point every place afterwards. Well done though on a good effort.

  10. Niels Brynnum says:

I went into the race with two aims, – first, try to support the super strong 💪 Tuden 🥇🎉champion 🎉🏆 with full gas from the beginning and stay with him as long as possible. Secondly, support super strong 💪🎉Grochang 🎉 to secure his 4th position in the championship.
Overall the race plan worked quite well, – started the race in the front group with Tuden, Dennis, Karel, Grochang, HJ2010, Krisskinder, Nelson S, pasjordi, luca_ma, Alieno78, Alan H aiming to keep the pace as high as possible. Danish mate, HJ2010 made a super big effort in the front group from the beginning 💪

The front group got split by Tuden and Krisskinder followed by Dennis, Karel, luca_ma, Alieno78 and Alan H, leaving Grochang, Nelson S, pasjordi and myself in the chasing group. From that point, it was about supporting 🎉Grochang 🎉 as much as possible so I aimed for some long pulls from the front. Nelson S was incredible strong 💪 (his second race of the day….😮) and he pulled away from the Danish duo accompanied by pasjordi and Risckys_G who had closed the gap from the 3th chasing group. Grochang 💪 and I work well together and I has pleased to support him with as many points in the championship as possible. Congratulations to all the participants !! Final comment, – thanks a million to the Muckers organising these races. You are the true champions 🏆

  11. Andy_UP says:

Money time! I have to defend my 10th position. I’m offered a bribe but I refused. No no, this is going down with the knife between the teeth. Fast start, riding around position 23 with a small group. Group got bigger and bigger as more closed the gap. Spend half of the race in a group of about 12, where I only could see about 6 of them. I was very worried some of the ghost would get away. I would not be able to bridge and get any draft, that would be suicide. Fired some rockets on the small hills, hoping the group would get smaller and maybe less ghosty. On the 2nd big hill I had to let some of the stronger riders go, but no names that were around me in the GC. No, those guys were all in a small group just behind so I dig in, I have to stay in this group. At the finish I just did a “Niel” sprint: Head down and give it all. Did pretty well actually as I ended 2nd of the 5 way sprint, end result 22nd. Then I saw the guy who bridged the gap in the last km’s with surges well over 10w/kg, and beat us all in the sprint, was DSQ from official rouvy results, making me 21th. Surely I would get bumped up in the Muckers result. Right? No! WTF! I missed my mention, missed the extra points for being top 20! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Chorus says:

That’s how it was, Andy. From the beginning I was in a comfortable group for me, around position 14-25, but there was very little collaboration, S.P. and I were the ones who were pulling the most. The group became smaller, being already among the first 21 (close to have secured a mention), but no, at the end of the second climb I could not keep the pace and I was left behind. We joined another small group, in which people didn’t cooperate much, so I tried to save my strength for the end. I also saw the guy who came at 13 w/kg behind, but in my group nobody was pulling and I saw the chances of the mention very far away knowing that now almost everyone is wearing HR … arghhhhhhhhh!!!!
In Spain we said “chuparruedas” 😂😂😂😂

Feeling quite poorly, but stupidly decided to race but cruise at the back. Realised this was going to take forever, tried to find someone to work with and quickly found hometown ‘Farnham Road Club’ teammate ‘12299Z’ and we formed a ‘two up’ partnership for the first half of the route. About mid distance we picked up another teammate ‘SteveC5’, I let ‘12299Z’ press forward and offered ‘SteveC5’ as much assistance as possible in another great partnership. We ended up with ‘leissp’ and ‘MarkoP.’ using the opportunity to draft and rest for a few minutes. Once I figured I couldn’t assist Steve to finish ahead of the other two riders I decided to do a double kick to create a gap I was able to increase to the line, passing teammate ‘12299Z’ on the line… Sorry mate. That last 4 miles has probably set me back a week health wise … just can’t stop myself … now where’s that covid test.

  13. Peter Oates (Batbuilder) says:

It seemed a long route tonight, I took it easier for the first 10K howevering around 50th and then started pulling throught the large field . I managed to chase a few people down, Kyleofski and Tonda then passed me as I started to flag at the 40K mark. Squalo_delle_Alpi also caught me up with about 5k to go and we had a sprint towards the line, all exciting stuff. In the end managed 35th ( same as last week).

Big race with many top riders. First goal was to stay vigilant and not get dropped early in the race. It was good tactics, as after few surges the leading group got reduced quickly. Suddenly we are about 6, then 5, then 4 as we dropped even heavyweight Dennis, but limited by old frame. Alan, Henrik Tuden, Alieno79, me and fun can start as we reached short climbs.
Alieno79 went into breakaway, followed by Tuden. I continued with small gap with Alan, until i was able to clos gap to Tuden and now we lost Alan. Continued with Tuden, we tried to catch Alieno, but he kept us distanced 50-200m all the time. I tried todo my job in the front now as in the first half i was only drafting in the group, thus having “free ride” with saving watts. We finished with Henrik Tuden 14sec behind Alieno79, Henrik was 2nd, so there is glitch in results. Awesome race, very happy with performance. Thank you all who joined!

Thanks for the race all, first time racing this Mucker October Championship 🙂
I was no match for the majority of riders and my primary objective was to get a decent threshold session out of it and keep a good pacing 🙂

Was back in 60-70th place 10min after race start and tried to get draft when possible and also bridged a few gaps over the course so gained ground, both on route and standing.. Also had a good round around halfway where we were two who took turns in front for a little while, forgot who this was with (sorry!)

The last few km’s I was primarely alone, but I saw mareckii was closing in, so that prompted me to make a little more effort in order to prevent being overtaken at the finish line…! 🙂

Cheers, Haldor aka HalAir, in Norway 🙂

Well, here goes. It is so hard to remember the details after a hard race like this. Thank goodness for the livestream video to recollect what happened.

I prepped the same as always for this race and felt pretty good going into it. Drinks on the counter next to me, computer with the livestream on the other side and the live race on the big screen in front of me. I hop on the bike and start warming up. The race starts and I’m off like a rocket. I started dropping places but not like previous rides. Instead of 3rd to 50th in the first three seconds, I managed to level off in the high 20’s!! And I was feeling pretty good so I kept up the pace for the first mile. I decided I’d only make it 5 miles at that pace so I pulled back a bit and let that front group go. I managed to slot into 47th at about the 3 mile mark. I had a big group with mareckii, batbuilder, peters7, kylofski, HalAir and about 8 others 100 feet behind me. It was nice to have the livestream next to me so I could see what was happening behind me. I was pushing 3.2 W/kg off the front but knew I would need that group to get some drafting help. By mile 5 the guys listed before had pulled through and away. But the group was large and I managed to get into a great groove with tyrone, Hoppytherocket, shoffmann, gunnera and tedrinnyc. At this point Mucker1974 was 450 feet behind us. I knew we needed to work together to keep him back there. And work together we did, 4 miles later we had maintained the 450 foot lead. It was .21 mi further back to macko and devilgas. Our little group pressed on.

Now looking at the replay of the livestream and reading Muckers comments of the race. I see where it all went wrong. At mile 11 macko caught Mucker1974. Our group still had the 450 foot lead on Mucker. Thats when Mucker jumped on mackos’ wheel and in the next mile they caught our group. I had missed it on the livestream and looking at my actual race, all of a sudden macko comes into screen. I thought to myself “who the hell is macko and where did he come from?” And then there was Mucker. Needless to say there were lots of words coming out of my mouth that rhymed with Mucker. Sorry Neil. I was mad at myself because I couldn’t mount a counter, I couldn’t even hold a wheel. And that was the beginings of my troubles. I lost touch with my little group, I couldn’t even hold their wheels anymore. It was like my legs just shut off and I still had 20 miles to go. I seriously considered dropping out of the race at this point. But decided to just back way off and try and recover, the hills were still to come and they have become my strong suit. The next 20 miles were kind of a blur. I know 5 or 6 more riders passed me, DolphWader stopped out of the blue on one of the ascents, I threw up on the other, Dolph passed me back, there was one rider a quarter mile behind me and shoffmann was back in my sights a quarter mile ahead of me. Thats basically how it ended. I crawled to the finish. Legs decimated, morale decimated. I had much higher hopes for this ride but it wasn’t my day.

On to the November Championship!!! Thanks again Neil. Oh, and the hr monitor is coming for my birthday next month.

that was an awesome read mucker!! you get so caught up in your own bubble and what to do, you forget to think that the guys up ahead are watching what you are doing! But i wasn’t for catching you at that early point and i did want to keep my power and heart rate in check as i really didn’t want to bonk near the end. Macko got me up to you guys earlier than expected though and i was so relived he didn’t just press on straight away and i was able to recover a little in your group before he started with the surges again!
The sensor will actually help you pace your effort a bit better as you must have been going too hard at the beginning for it to all fall apart at the end like it did… See you next time!
