RACE WITHIN A RACE REPORT:

This was always going to be tough! zone 4 over nearly 29 miles and some little climbs in there, it’ll be so hard not to just push into zone 5 on those climbs! And so it was to be with only 4 riders achieving it! Top placed was “Kylofski” in what became 31st after a high amount of “NED’s” , 2nd came “DolphWader” in 36th just 39 seconds in front of “Mucker1974”! Just over 5 minutes later came a very controlled and successful “shoffmann” in 39th place! Well done to the 4 of you.

MAIN RACE REPORT:

Clear winner tonight with “Alieno79” a nice 40 seconds in front of the sprint for 2nd which was won by “Alan-H” just in front of “karel_sousek”. A 3 way sprint for 4th approx. 40 seconds later was won by “luca_ma”, with an identical time with 5th placed “Simon_Hahnenbruch” and “nelsonsnyder” closely behind in 6th.

Top Muckers Worldwide team rider “nielsbrynnum” gets a very nice 7th place, “R3-569-DIEGO-DONATI” in 8th and “Stefan793” gets a nice bump up to 9th with top Brit, Mucker and Farnham club rider “Gazinho” in 10th! 11th place gets awarded to “s.p” , a sprint for 12th goes to “Stefan_Smit” just in front of 13th placed “lrollin”. Really good to see “Old.BikerRuner” in the mentions as this rider usually rides the2LATE4ME races so well done for a strong 14th place.

Strong Muckers Worldwide team rider “SwissChris69” gets awarded 15th place, with the rest of the top 20 coming over the line thick and fast. 16th gets awarded to “chorus”, 17th “pasjordi60” , 18th “Dennis_R” , 19th “JJRobinson” and final mention goes to Portuguese regular “leonelcunha” Superb racing guys and well done!

That’s the top 20 mentions and well done if you are in this group. I’ll just take this time to just say I feel we are starting to get a great core group of riders now as I’m recognizing a lot of the names and i hope you guys are too. Please Just try to keep it as legit as you can as it makes these results more meaningful and those little wins mean more when we know we are racing against someone who’s tried to be as legit as possible as well.

We had a large amount of non-finishers tonight, which is strange on a relatively flat route and I hope this wasn’t all down to glitches. If you experiencing this, a few tips are to try and download the route beforehand (do it in its smallest size first and see how it looks on the screen you are using) and go into your settings and make sure they are not all at max definition/quality etc etc. I also have started leaving my screen on the map screen at the start as its so busy at that point with loads going on, I prefer to get up to speed then switch back to my avatar. If you are experiencing the glitch that throws you backwards a few 100ft at a time, that does stop if you switch to the map screen as well. hope some of these suggestions help?

And lastly, thanks to those of you who have bought from the shop recently. hope you love your items as much as loved designing and creating them! These little purchases really keep the lights on in The Muckers Worldwide Pain Cave!

4 separate races next, then we start the November 5 race championship on 5 consecutive Thursdays!!!

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

I can’t believe I won the HR Zone 4 race for a change.

Tonight’s HR Zone 4 race was, once again, another flat race. What’s with all the flat races on Rouvy? Anyway, for the first 6 miles, “Mick_Michel” and I led a group of about 7 riders. As we hit the inclines, “ChadDRouvy” and “roadspanther” pulled away in front. I kept my composure, making sure I didn’t go into Zone 5 for more than a few seconds. On the return, about 16 miles in, I caught up to “roadspanther” and “NunoFama.” I led this trio until we caught up to “ChadDRouvy” and “Hawk76.” There were now a nice group of 5 of us. I could see we were catching “jeff65,” and when we did, “jeff65” started racing with “roadspanther” and “Hawk76.” I thought, “I’m not losing this Zone 4 to gain a few positions.” Finished 45th. Quite happy. Looking forward to the double Hill Races on Sunday. See you there, Muckers.

I chose todo the Zone 4 race and just use as an out and out training session and see where i came. so i stuck the stats screen on and set off trying to stick to a nice 70rpm and 142ish bpms. worked a treat, over took a few riders and considering how many riders i was around at certain parts of the race, i really felt that a lot were having a go at this race within a race. So after I worked it all out and found only 4 riders, including myself, actually completed it, i was shocked. but a nice training session, a mention and a challenge route all sorted.

  3. James Robinson says:

Enjoyed that thanks – Didn’t quite achieve Z4 but only 1:27 in Z5. I need to learn to just let others go ha ha! What caught me out was how much quicker my heart-rate changed after about 45 min, will be giving it another go 🙂

  4. Mike Hagen says:

Trying to keep HR in zone 4 with all the distractions is hard. First bump at 700 m I look down and I’m already at 139, zone 5! Stop pedaling, sit up, but it seems to take forever to drop to 138, back in zone 4. After that, I’m in a big group in positions 30 – 40 or so, and it’s going well, then we get to the islands at 15 km and I’m back in zone 5. Let them go and ride solo for a bit, that was fine. Back on the bridge and I’m with nearly.guru and Mitja_v_T, happy to let them pull me along. I think I’m going to be okay but then nearly.guru starts her kick with 1 km to go and I get sucked in. No! No! Zone 5! Stop and sit up, but the damage is done: 64 seconds in zone 5. Ah well, it was still a good ride.

  5. Lamber Manuel says:

I was focused on the theme of the double challenge, everything seemed to be going well like last time, I was in a good group where we worked well with Mike Hagen and other friends and then the race turned into a zombie race, everyone stopped and I was pedaling alone… in fact it was the only time I overtook the first… 🤣 shame about the connection gap, we’re afraid everything was good for training.

  6. Torben Adolph says:

A second place…… This is something I might mention from time to time. Learned it for the master @Neil Rusby

It was a nice (not good) race. Got into a very good working group from the start but as always my vegan food thought it was time to produce gas and had to let go of a strong group. 1/3 left of the race I saw Mucker1972 in the nearby list gainng some distantance to me but I manage to stay in front. Catched up on JurajHorvat few miles from the finish line and I wasn’t able to shake him my tail so it ended up in “who is going first for the sprint”. I manage to keep my HR just 10 beat below zone5 and tried to break away 500 m from the finish but JurajHorvat did 9 w/kg and I was like – go girl – have the win. I knew I didn’t have many seconds left above zone4 so let him go. Great and fun finish 🙂
    Love these races

  7. Gary Taylor says:

I started fresh or so I thought I couldn’t get to the lead pack and settled for the 2nd group which worked hard to pick off any drop offs, I stuck with the group until it felt like we would be cat and mouse for 10km so I decided to make a solo break at 12km to go. S.P worked hard to pull me back in but I was feeling strong and not ready to take it easy! Thankfully it worked and I saved myself a trollin 3km break at the end. Overall a good race, I have changed my diet to plant based and hope to be in the 87’s by Thursday. I have a goal to reach to be competitive but the only way I can compete across all courses is to lose weight and keep training hard!! I will keep you posted if I do lose any weight I’m currently at 88kg dead on

  8. Andy_UP says:

Wasn’t going to do zone 4. Wasn’t really going to race either. Got sucked in. Went to hard on the hills. Hed nothing left for the last flat section. Was fun though!

  9. luca_ma says:

What a race! I am glad I found this community and many thanks for organizing this series.
It was hard to even catch the first group. Very frenetic pace until the first 3 go away. After this split we stay 4, finally 3. Me, Nelson S. and Simon H. I was still on the limit, having problems to get on the front to pull a bit. Furtunately the hills in the middle was a better terain for me, so I tried to do more pulls for the guys who seemed to be much better than me on the flats. In the final flat section there was very good cooperation (thank you!), but still no chance to catch the 3 in front of us. I won the final sprint by very good timing, althought I doubt I had the best power or tactics. It was just a bit of beginners luck.

  10. Karel Soušek says:

Caloric lunch to recharge batteries, because racing in consequtive days is not easy. Flat profile, but quite long route. Strong start by Matthias and Nelson, however the real push was once Alieno79 came to the front. Few more pushes by him and suddenly only me and Alan were able to hang on.
Advantage over Simon, Nelson and Luca was not big. Then Alieno took a break and was in between groups for a while, but then released out of this world attack with 8-10 w/kg for 2 minutes or so and got into lead again. I worked nicely with Alan, trying to catch him on one hand, and keeping eye on persecutors on the other hand. Nothing changed till the end, so Alan finished second after strong sprint and i took very good third place. Great race, thank you all who joined!
