MUCKERS TUESDAY RACE DAY. 05/03/24

ROUVY Route Used: L’Etape Slovenia – Trzic – Kranj | 16.7 miles | 1184ft climbing

2EARLY4ME RACE RESULT:

Due to the guy who finished first being declared a NED ( Not enough data ) which is easily fixed going forward by being friends on here and supplying heart rate data, it means its the Muckers Worldwide Team rider who gets awarded the 1st place by allowing us to see he is as legit as possible and also, more importantly, riding really well at a great average speed of 23.16mph!

2LATE4ME RACE RESULT:

Been a very long time since we had 10 finishers on the 2LATE race but we have Another fast NED which means its another Muckers Team rider who gets the win on the late race with a great effort by “Guthinger-Mike” who just gets the better of “Jettro” in 2nd and then another Muckers rider “bjm151” getting the last mention with a great effort to get the 3rd place.

MAIN RACE RESULT:

So, the first week in March is here already! Riders will now start to venture outside now, so for those that are about to go and do this, please remember we will be keeping this going all the way through the year! So if it looks like the outdoor ride isn’t going to happen, the Muckers Races will still be here at the usual time. 91 Starters is a great number on any day so I hope everyone had a great race on this really interesting route to race on with some kicker climbs at the start, a really nice long slight downhill section into a steep finish. Quality race route in my eyes.

“hinsbergen” get his first win in a long time tonight in a Muckers Race, with a decent gap over 2nd place “Stefan_Schmidt” who himself powered on to keep “karel_sousek” just a few seconds behind in 3rd place. “nielsbrynnum” gets a very decent 4th place as top placed Muckers team rider, “lrollin” in a lovely 5th place and “adampel” claiming 6th tonight but under no pressure from 7th placed “andy_emmo” who himself found out what no-mans-land felt like over the line. 8th comes “hj2010” , 9th “tomlerieger” and rounding out the Muckers Official top 10 is the 3rd Dane over the line “m-forby”

11th comes another Mucker in the strong Spanish rider “chorus”, 12th “batbuilder” who just gets the better of 13th placed “Brampaulussen” 14th comes “jakimati” and 15th the Strong Brit “RocketRoy”. Mucker “Svard” gets 16th then a Sprint for 17th that “Stephen_Belio” gets the plaudits for tonight. 18th goes to Swedish rider “perswe” , 19th to Canadian Mucker “MikeHagen” and the final mention for a superb 20th place goes to yet another Mucker, but one whos not normally mentioned but is a truly strong rider, “DonJulio”!

Well done everyone who gets a mention, be great if you helped us out and went and celebrated this by purchasing the 2024 special mention T-Shirt as this is a great achievement and should be celebrated!

Thank you to the 91 starters who were there on the start line, its really great to have you all along and hope you got out of it what you wanted/needed.

Next race is the start of the March championship on Thursday so hopefully see you then!

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

What a great little training session! We agreed on the WhatsApp chat and confirmed on the Facebook post to go at 2.5-2.8w as a nice train but will more than likely sprint it out at the end. Me, Dolph and Jeff did ok over the first part, sometimes needing to just stretch out now and again, thus increasing the power momentarily, but then dropping back off until the train caught back up but once we hit the long downhill, we really started to motor along as we kept that power going every time we hit the front. we went from 70th place to 60th place, picking up lone riders along the way with some jumping on and some, just getting spat out the back!

Coming into the last part its quite a fast downhill into it and we were a pack of 8 riders. I riskily place myself at the very back of the pack, with a little 15ft gap to next rider in front with the plan to launch my attack not on the first little kick, but just after than when it goes orange in gradient color, with the hope I will get the draft off 7 riders as I catch and over take them 🤞🤞🤞🤞. Everyone’s powers start to ramp up and its now time to get out of the saddle and unleash whatever I had left. Head down, not wanting to look at the screen, I went all out, then when I knew i had no more, I looked up and saw I had dropped them all and had a 100ft gap to guy behind me, BUT, we still had some more climb to do and I was dead! sat down, span up and just watched the gap with my heart busting out of my chest!! Torben put in another kick so I had to somehow stand back up on the pedals and just kick again over the crest, but once I did that the gap was easy to control over the line! 59th and my best ever 1 minute power medal popped up which was definitely achieved on that killer ending.

Nice fun race, we organized ourselves with a high 2.5/3.0 pace and with the idea of sprinting uphill if our legs allowed it. After the start I go looking for my training partners, I find Andy_Up then Slyfly I was also looking for Mike and Kyle but I had no idea where they were. We start with a low 3 wk but then we get along well, I see Muchers shirts up front and then I try to mend the situation to get stimuli, Andy and Andreas are also there and so we have fun and often exchange positions. Finally we find Kyle and then Rouvy1bryon and off we all go together towards the uncertain end of the race. The two climbs arrive, a sprint starts a little too early, Andy goes, I fight with Andreas and rouvy1bryon… in the end I hold and almost at the end I have the advantage over my pursuers, good placing for a good team work. Thanks everyone 💪

Cool down race after main L’Etape Battle – Final Race an hour before. I was wondering if i can stick with initial short steep sections. Got into trouble few times, but could stay with leaders. Calgagni in front, but no one bothered of unreal rider. Then Chris did nice move to him over climb in the middle, but i expected they will not cooperate. Continuing with diesel power i closed the gap quickly with Stefan hanging in draft. Calgagni left us in dust again and three of us continued. This time i did not have any sprinting ambitions, so did 90% in front with guys happily sitting in draft. Very good race too, thank you all who joined!

Muckers Tuesday training rides are supposed to be at 2.5W/KG for me, at least. There’s always a chat on the WhatsApp group before the ride about doing a Muckers train.

However, this week, I decided to jump on a Muckers wheel that wasn’t part of the Muckers train. I rode with fellow Muckers Andy_UP and Squalo_delle_Alpi. On the climbs or slight hills, I could keep up and even take my turn on the front.

However, on the downhills, unless I was doing 120 rpm, I couldn’t keep up, so I had to spin at 120. In the end, I was exhausted not from the climbing but from the flats and downhills. After this ride, I had a 15-mile, 2500ft climb. It was tough, but I got 15th on the second climb (only because there were 25 starters).

It’s a shame there wasn’t a report on the second ride; otherwise, I would have gotten a mention and would have to buy a Muckers Mention T-Shirt for 2024. See you on Thursday.

    • robinagy says:

Kyle, may I ask you what is your weight? For me (~85kg) it is always funny to see almost everybody pedalling a 1-2w/kgs on downhills, where I can easily do a 3 or above. And it goes back on uphills of course 🙂
Anyway, don’t you have a big enough chainring?

  5. Svard says:

The race last night seemed perfect for me, except for the long, steep final climb. Since I’ll miss several championships in March, I prioritized races that suit my strengths and skipped those with extended climbs. My goal was a top 20 finish, which gets me mentioned in the report.

Knowing there was a climb early on, I kept the pace below 3.5W/kg. Then, on the first climb, I pushed hard. Evaluating my position at the top, I saw I was 17th, which motivated me to fight for the top 20.

The descent led into a series of shorter climbs. I thrived here, attacking the steeper sections and easing off on the flatter parts. A few stronger riders, including TomleRieger and Batbuilder, passed me, but I dug deep and arived 19th/20th, tied with crisvi, still within the coveted top 20 zone.

A larger group with Perswe and Macko was close behind. Knowing Macko’s flat and descending prowess, I opted to wait rather than risk exhaustion before the final climb. This decision formed a group of five battling for the remaining two top 20 spots.

In the final kilometers, RocketRoy joined us, making it six. He looked much stronger, and when he attacked, we had no choice but to let him go. This left only one top 20 spot remaining.

With a flat finish, I wouldn’t have worried. But the final climb loomed. On the first less-steep section, I kept the pace low at the back, aiming for a shorter “sprint” at the end. When it got steeper, I surged to the front, hoping to create a gap and discourage the others. It worked! Though Stephen_Bellio kept pushing behind me, I held him off and secured 20th place, earning my mention in the muckers report!

  6. HalAir says:

I was a little torn today, between Muckers race and the the big race earlier that Karel got an impressive 2nd place in 👏 A race with close to 200 participants would be cool, but eventually my domestic schedule preventing me from having that option.

Que Muckers at 7 (8 local time), no warm-up and missed the start by 15s or so but intention for the day was “accumulate volume at mid-effort” and my journey started in about 80th position and job was getting warmed up and up to speed. Rode my own pace and winged it enroute as seen fit 🙂 In the last half of the course I rode with Ingmar for a while at 3w+/-, before I lost him on one of the small hills.
On the last few km’s I did 7-9 short 5/15s intervals at 5/3w to keep speed up, taking advantage of my weight. Pushed a little power on the first half of the last climb to the finish line but settled down into a steady 3w for the final couple hundred meters, as I was only half done with today’s effort so didnt go for broke.

After crossing the finish line there was almost 10min untill next Muckers start, so decided to check off a Sprint Workout challenge instead and spent the next hr in Z2 along the beautiful, virtual, Italian coast line.

Thanks for the ride – will be back for more on Thursday 😎

  7. Jeff65 says:

Really enjoyed the two Mucker races, the first was a pre agreed 2.8 max training ride, with Neil and Torben. After my 4w to get over the first climb, we took it easy and took turns at the front, and we slowly ramped the speed up at the end. Knew it would turn out into an all out sprint to the line, so I went out full gas 0.5miles to go, and sadly ran out of steam, with the others passing me. The second race was an absolute slog up the first climb, really good fun trying to keep with the Muckers, and was a lovely coast to the line.

  8. Chris Helmbold says:

Thank you Neil. I have let him know what he needs to do to be compliant. Ja I wasn’t supposed to ride full gas in the hopes of faring better in the Thursday Race this week. I was the coolest guy (the only guy) in the parking lot and then my mate showed up and proceeded to rip my legs off and beat me with the sloppy ends 😭😂. The only consolation is that his legs will be hurting at this weekends enduro event that I am unfortunately unable to attend. You are picking excellent short n’ sharp race courses. On profile not scary at all, but when the racing starts then the fatigue and pain linger for daaaays 🤣. Thanks again.

  9. Mike Hagen says:

Planned another Tuesday moderate paced group ride, 2.5 – 3 W/kg, Andy_UP, Squalo_delle_Alpi, and a couple of others were good with that. The problem was to find them. Maybe we can group up at the top of the first climb? So I saunter off the line, watching the nearby list, not seeing them. The first climb, 21%?, felt pretty easy. I’m feeling good! Where are they? Don’t see them. But, wait, there’s DonJulio just ahead. We’ve ridden well together before, maybe today too? We had a blast! Working super well together, trading hard pulls and resting in each other’s draft, sweeping up riders ahead, dropping them (though, tbh, got smoked by RocketRoy midway!). Finally, the uphill finish, 500 m at 7%; expected DonJulio to out-sprint me, so I went at the bottom and held effort to the line. It was great! And top 20 mention too; been awhile since that’s happened. So fun.
