MUCKERS TUESDAY RACE DAY. 23/01/24

ROUVY Route Used: Tour Down Under | Stage 4 – Ashbourne | 21.83 miles | 1089ft climbing.

2EARLY4ME RACE RESULT:

Strange one this! I am able to watch 30 mins of this race when on my dinner break and I saw what was shaping up to be a good race! I saw “Procat” in a decent lead but got hunted down by “CerveloKevin”, “RocketRoy” and “Southafro”, which ended a group of 4 at the top of the climb, only to see “Southafro” glitch back a few hundred feet! I then got to see the 2 Moon Rider team mates back off to re group while “Procat” kept going. At this point i had to go back to work but another Mucker was watching it also and sent me a nice video of the finish. This showed “RockerRoy” actually winning this but for some reason he’s been classed a DNF. So not a disqualification, but a non-finish. What a strange race!!??

2LATE4ME RACE RESULT:

We will skip past the guy who forgot to get out of his car for this race, then a strange issue for 2nd who’s ride hasn’t even shown up in his training diary, but the last few rides he did, we have no HR data anyway. So its left to say well done to “Jettro” and “bjm151” for keeping the flag flying for the 2LATE4ME race this week.

MAIN RACE RESULT:

145 Registered | 111 Starters | 99 Finishers | 12 DNF | 34 DNS

What a good route for a Race! Nice distance but not stupid steep so you can keep a nice average speed going. Maybe that’s why we had an amazing 145 registered riders on here and over 100 on the start line. Top 20 will have had to go hard and race intelligently to get the draft’s help to get a mention! Hope you’re not a NED!

“Alieno79” (340w/1.022IF) gets the win tonight, and by a massive 50 seconds over the next 4 riders battling for the last 2 places on the podium! Silver is a NED due to no HR data, then Bronze goes to “Gil.Mad.io” (335w/0.981IF) who finishes just 0.4 of a second in front of “markvart” (348w/1.195IF). One second later and 5th over the line comes “karelsousek” (307w/1.015IF) then Team Adam-Chris team mates “hinsbergen” (297w/0.948) in 6th, and in 7th “adampel” (297w/0.976IF).

8th to “luca_ma” (284w/0.887IF), 9th is a NED, then rounding out the top 10 comes “andy_emmo” (322w/0.909IF). We then have a 3 way sprint with 11th and 12th actually getting the exact same time, but “s.p” (270w/0.968IF) gets classified 11th, then “m-forby” (275w/1.061IF) is awarded 12th with Swiss rider “tomlerieger” (285w/1.008IF) in a strong 13th place for the Muckers! 2 G’s next with “Gunthinger-Mike” (356w/1.055IF) in 14th and “Grep.” (295w/1.096) in a great 15th place, well inside the top 20!!

16th is a NED, then 17th gets awarded to Mucker “nielsbrynnum” (290w/1.076IF) 18th is another NED, 19th to yet another strong Dane “Grochang” (286w/1.006IF) and final mention for tonight goes to, yep, another strong Danish rider “hj2010” (301w/0.992IF) Well done to you all!!

We really do have some strong riders coming every race now, and a lot who can average around 300 watts a race so top 20 isn’t even guaranteed for these guys so I hope they are enjoying the racing and the challenge to even get to top 10/20!

Well done to every single one of you that finished! What a great race and way to get this challenge route completed.

Top 20 out of 99 finishers!! that’s gotta’ be something to shout about! Get the 2024 mention T-Shirt and maybe a towel and sticker set! It’s all there in the shop as well as loads other Muckers Worldwide branded items. Please have a look and let us know what you think.

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

111 starters and I’ve planned to try and train at a nice average of 2.5watts. I’m worried on the start line that this might actually be my first finish outside the top 100 but I’ve set my training agenda and I need to stick to it. At first we had a nice group but once a few little inclines hit us, i was soon on my own as the others naturally put in more effort on these climbs to keep momentum going where i was focused on not doing so. Eventually 3 team mates came back to me and we were around the 80th to 84th places. Really enjoyed staying on plan and it was easy to keep at it. Its strange to catch and spit riders out the back when going so easy and has made me look at this a bit more closely as I’m usually that rider who gets caught then can’t hang on and just in all kinda’ worlds of pain so do i need to maybe be more focused on power?? I was only about 25 watts off my normal average power as well. ended up 74th, with the actual possibility of 68th if I’d have sprinted at the end, but i was focused on the power and rolled over the line in the position that i should, with an average power on exactly 2.5w/kg. cheers to “SwissChris69”, “DolphWader” and “Rens_Piccavet”

Nice route, the right mix of flat terrain and multiple not-so-hard climbs. As always the idea is to keep a medium, not hard pace and then instead I switch to everything mode for the entire route even for the ride with my friend Tony. LibaJanouseK also joins in the second half of the route, but he didn’t want to risk taking the initiative and stuck to our wheels until the final sprint… too bad that my hardest gear changed with a slight delay at 170 m from the line, maybe it would have been a nice photo finish. Next time if you help out we’ll have more fun 😉. Thanks to everyone and see you next time on Thursday which will be a great effort 💪

For once we ended up in a Mucker train. Not from the start but a comment in the WattsApp reminded us from Mr. Mucker1974 himself what we actually agreed on :-p
After we got into the group we had a very nice 2,5-2,7 train most of the race. Did win the sprint a second ahead of SillySilNL at the end 😉
Big thanks goes to “SwissChris69” those times where I lost the group downhill picking me up and giving me moral support with a 9.0 w/kg draft. Big cheers to “Rens_Piccavet” and “Mucker1974” for a very nice train.

  4. HalAir says:

I wasn’t sure how I’d cope tonite but decided to push/challengde myself a little with this “flat” route profile. I struggle to keep power up on flatter routes compared to climbs, so aimed to maintain a higher than usual cadence and see how that played out. I started with a 8w/kg push off the gate and the first minute avg 4,8w/kg and inside the larger front group. First 15min felt “fine” and was able to stay within the group but after 17m33s I was finally spat out the back. Fun while it lasted, and for that duration I managed 3,4w/kg @ 90rpm and close to 42km/h 🤣

Joined up with “a.wool” and “anonhemust” after a little while and we stayed together for the remaining distance, finishing off with a little sprint finish which I initiated about 300m from the line, squeezing myself into “first” place by a hair, pretty much all spent 😅 Thanks for the ride and the push!

For cool-down I jumped over to the Wanaka Challenge and ticked off Lake Ohau for good measure 🙂

    Race stats 34th place, 288w (NP) and 0.89IF @ 88kg (Flux S)

Really enjoyed this ride,as discussed before hand a lot of the Muckers riders were going to take it easy, and the mighty S.Ludford still recuperating,it was my chance to move up the leaderboard. With so many riders it was easy to get a draft, found myself in a large group, including Rouvy1bryon,Slyfly,and Regina. All was going fairly well until we hit the climb, and i lost my position, and had numerous riders overtake me,including team mate Kyloski right at the end.Managed to recover and get a draft from Kyle and caught Skripnit at the end .Many thanks for organising these rides, great fun as always.Jeff65

  6. Andy_UP says:

Didn’t want to go all out. Just grabbing some wheels, not going over my limit. Didn’t start too fast but by following wheels, I soon saw my position go down in number. Suddenly I was in a group of 3 racing for 20th. On the hill, there were a few that passed me, I just did my own pace. Normally I’m in the wheels hanging on and not knowing how long I can hold this pace. Now I was in the wheels thinking this is really fast but I don’t think they will drop me. Big was my surprice when Rouvy said I had my best 20min value in 3 months. This is a nice lesson for me.

  7. Chris says:

What a hell of a race!
My goal today was to get into the top 100… and I succeeded. 😉
Todays “Muckers Rouvy race” started about 4 minutes too early for me, Rouvy didn’t let me in. Rouvy sucks, this happens all the time when so many racers are participating 😡 Rouvy should replace their old 386 PC’s.

I was then trying to catch up from the very back at P107 up to P78, then at the finish, the road ran out…
I hoped to reach my team mates “SwissChris” and “Mucker” before the finish line, because I noticed them in my nearby list and pulled like hell. But despite my heart rate of 170-180 *waaaaah*, I couldn’t. The race to catch up resulted in no drifting for me, I was always alone on the road. My “time in movement” was 1:00:20, so a bit less than stated in the race results. I gave everything and worked hard on the bike, unfortunately without drfting at all, and only had short breaks in between to recover. The finish was then the absolute maximum for me (HR=181). Happy about the result though.

    Cheers, Chris (alias “uffzynda”)

On monday I did an evening run with my son. Brruh, running is not mine and so I felt pain nearly everywhere at my body. Not horrible, but enough to decide: Let’s take it easy in todays muckers race (Short check of my stats below: my plan did not come together). Muckers 2.5-train seemed to be very good for my plans. But then I saw Kyle pushing a bit harder and I thought: Legs are feeling not that bad. So let’s try to follow him. We rode a couple of kilometers together, but when the climb began, I let him go. I don’t know exactly what happened in detail but I grouped up with “Gunnera”, “Shrew” and “Elborde”. And then there was “KEAL27”. At the end of the climb I pushed hard to get away from the group. And frenchman “KEAL27” was fighting like hell to follow me. I guess we both pushed us to the limit, having the better end for me this time. I was able to hold him behind me till the finish line, but it was horrible hard work. And next time it might be the other way round. Just before the finish line, I was able to overtake “Ramjet1” and “Simon-Bolivar”. Phew, the hardest easy ride I’ve ever done 😄

Hard day, or hard start, or lack of the warm up? Maybe all, I did not make it to the front group, I tried for like 6 minutes, then I was broken and let it go. I took some time to recover. I was in a group around 25th place, which went really good, so we did not have a big gap to the top 10. I want to have a good training despite the bad start, so I changed the plan and want to go full gaz from the bottom of the climb. Which I did, felt much better after the proper warm up, so I managed to get back to the top 10, however the front group was already in the showers this time. Still it was a fine race.
Should be better on Thursday 🙂

What happened to Zone 4, Mucker 2.5 W/KG training? Tuesday’s races are supposed to be training days, not racing. Too much racing does more harm than good. If every time I jumped on my bike and raced, I wouldn’t get fitter. So, knowing all this, why the F@#£ did I turn this into a race? I know why—because I’m a competitive idiot who always wants to win. So, when I see Jeff65 up ahead, I want to beat him. After 10 miles of Zone 4, I spot Jeff65, and then for the rest of the race, it turned into an all-out race between Jeff65, skripnit, and me. We just kept upping the pace. Jeff65 eventually won our mini race. Well done, Mucker. This has now knackered me up for the last of the January Championship Races. See you all Thursday for that massive event.

Me and coach CerveloKevin rode the 12:15 slot as a Z2/3 training ride. Decided that Procat was going to boss it so after a Rocket ™ start to get him going we backed off and grouped up with Southafro to help him along to a better time. After a while Procat twigged what we were doing and drifted back to us to form a group of 4. We carried on until Southafro had a dropout so me and Kevin sat up to wait for him and regrouped. Nearer to the finish Procat sat up and Southafro went for it. Coach Kev decided to put a sprint in to pass him and I couldn’t resist either so I lit the chiseled mahogany pistons of pain and launched a 10 W/Kg sprint to take the gold – or so I thought. As I crossed the line Rouvy crashed on my Apple TV 4K 2022 and would not budge. I left it for 30 minutes whilst I had a shower but no joy so I took a screenshot showing me first to the line along with my time. Unfortunately this pic and a video of me winning was not enough to convince Mucker1974 so my DNF stands even though the completed ride is in my training diary and I got the XP and coins for completing the course. I then decided to have another go on the main 7pm slot and help out my girlfriend kaz1bar and a few other lucky riders. Same Rocket sprint at the finish as I wasn’t getting mugged by the group I was helping.

Fellow Mucker Chad posted a little video of the finish in the chat so we all saw you winning, even Neil. Guess he follows the rules and can’t make any exeptions next to the results everyone can see. If he didn’t do this, everyone would start to make request and changes and this would make him even more crazy as he already is. But he DID tell it in the report and we all knew it already, so that’s something. Great job.

2earlyforme Race. Southafro. I started, expecting to see Cervelokevin and Rocketroy take off with procat. All three of those fellas are way stronger than myself. Battling to find a rhythm in the first half team moon riders were good enough to let me roll with them. I definitely gave more than usual which rewarded me when Cervelokevin and Rocketroy sat up when I “glitched”. What gentleman 😁. Chasing back up to Procat and to try challenge for the sprint was awesome. They lit afterburners and left me hanging onto my red and white numbers with my teeth🥵. Just the sportsmanship of those guys was enough to make this one of the best rides yet. Much respect and gratitude to them and Muckers Worldwide.

That was a hard one! HR max of 181bpm (my doctors says more than 174 is not possible)
My new strategy is to race hard on Tuesdays and relx on Thursdays because it’s easier to get a mention on Tuesday. So after a >30min warmup I started Vollgas an reached around place 23th, not good enough! Pulled faster to get in the first 20 but already in Z7 after 5km! we had a very strong group with Mike, Grep Gianluca, Niels, Mats, hj2010 and Diego. Strong means attacks on every single bump. I didn’t belived that I can stick to this group until the big climb, my HR was high and the legs burning. The group exploded in the climb an I was passed by Luca ma with no chance to follow. P.S. and m-forby followed me in the descend untill I started the final sprint with 900m to go. I was passed by the two on the last 5m, but very happy with 13th place! Tuesday is the day for racing! pedal on, TlR

Once again, I was going to take it easy on the Tuesday race, and once again, it didn’t happen. Before the race, nielsbrynnum said he and Grochang were doing an easy zone 4 ride, so I said I’d look for them. Found them, but they were ripping, and as my HR edged into zone 6 I said F this and let them go. Settled into a group and here’s Andy_UP, very kindly offering a wheel as the group starts to separate. But, nope, I’m doing easy zone 4, thank you very much. So now I’m in a smaller group, and Squallo_delle_Alpi is there also, and doing very well. Many Muckers getting very fit in these races! Chorus is there too, and as he ups the pace, I go with him. Now I’m into zone 5. Moving along very well, working up the field, we overhaul luca_ma and I think, WTH, what is he doing back here? We hit the steep bit after mid-way, though, and he is gone. But Chorus and I get up the hill together and work to reel in qiaozhi. Now with about a km to go, how can us two Muckers drop qiaozhi? But it’s like Chorus reads my mind: he goes, I let him get a 15 m gap, then I go, getting back on his wheel and gapping qiaozhi. Chorus then ups again, pulling me further away from qiaozhi. Just textbook. Chorus sprints for the line, but I’m happy just to stay ahead of qiaozhi. Very nicely done! 232 W, 0.87 IF, 145 HR, Kickr Core.

Sorry Mike for not doing my Zone 4 as promised 🙈 – Still intent to do hr zone 4 next Tuesday. Proud to hear that Neil did his training plan from gun start to finish line – it takes discipline 👍

  15. Mads Grosen says:

Stage 4 Down Under a perfect race to do my Zone 4, but gathering together on Discord for the first time, had me carried away, as you clearly can see on the numbers ⬇️
I also thought that discord would be my right hand to make some brilliant sprint strategy with the discord guys. The thing is that other riders, not discord, had other plans that totally ruined our skin attack followed with a lead out 500m before finish line. Our skin attack had A2-75-GIANLUCA-PERUTA going for a massive effort with 5 and 6 watt the last 1.2km. Nielsbrynnum tried to hang on and I’m not a long distance sprinter, so were left alone with player981dave who took the sprint – ups did I just reveal my weakness🙈
Looking forward to Thursdays race on discord again with or without a sprint strategy😉
