Route 5 from GFNY Challenge | HARD

So, after a lot of the 20+ riders put it in on the warm up race, I was expecting a few riders missing from this one but with 3 minutes of the warm up left, we only had 7 riders waiting to get going! This increased to 9 riders at the off with one rider having a look at what he’d just entered and deciding not to bother, which left 8 of us setting off. About 5 minutes into it, we had one late starter so we now had 9 riders having a go at this Hill Climb race.

First to the top with a very impressive time was “adampel” with a very comfortable lead over his team mate “hinsbergen” in 2nd. These 2 riders finishing in under 55 minutes. They were being chased by “Massimo_Vighi” until he quit which gave the next 2 riders a shot at the bronze medal. Muckers worldwide rider “Andy_UP” got the bronze who really put it in to stay in front of the relentless pressure from 4th place “egil” with the two of them finishing under a minute apart. Superb effort Andy as we’d all done the first race apart from egil,so to keep him at bay must have been hard!

5th was a nice effort from another muckers worldwide rider “Shrek-1970-Challenger” finishing just under 4 minutes behind 4th, then last but by no means least, was myself “Mucker1974” in 6th, approximately 6 minutes down the road from Shrek. Apart from otero22 who i was pulling away from up the climb, I gained all my positions from people quitting but I stayed on it and was glad to get the route done and be closer to finishing yet another ROUVY challenge. Wasn’t the worst Hill Climbing route on Rouvy as it never really went too steep and some awesome scenery as well.

1 Muckers Worldwide team rider in the top 3, or 3 Muckers Worldwide team riders in the top 6, is how I look at it and even better is we keep our roll of always getting a rider in the top 10 going for another race.

Please let us know how this Race went for yourselves, even the guys who quit on this one as it would be interesting to know what happened?

cheers.

low numbers on this one meant when we got going, I was guaranteed a top 10 finish so I carried on with that in mind, and that it would get the challenge route completed if I just kept my head down and finished this route. I actually climbed quite strongly, and I was slowly pulling away from otero22 who had just beaten me in the warm up race. Franco, who was a late starter, just got me at the top of the first climb so I put it in to stay on his wheel for the downhill, only for him to quit at the foot of the last hill. so I just had shrek to aim for but he was too far ahead and too strong so I just cranked up the music and concentrated on cadence all the way to the top. Last, yes, but still 6th!!

I wanted to test myself in the warm up race and started like crazy, way to fast, as a result, I just missed top 10 and came over the line totaly done. Then I start this one, pacing and settling for 4th. The guy in front of me just quits, I’m now riding for podium while the last bits of energy are flowing out of my legs. Egil must have noticed he had a shot at podium so kept putting the pressure, I had to keep going. It’s was hard, not healthy and not fun, but happy I could bring home the bronze medal for the team.

superb result for the team and yourself. I could see from my position “egil” was putting on the pressure and you still managed to finish in front of them. well done Andy!
