MUCKERS 1ST NIGHT OF HIIT IN 26!

Screenshot

Event took place on the 29th of January 2026

16 short sprint races with 4 minute gaps between them all… easy as that!

GC based on time taken to do all 16 so every race needed to be plat out, even if you had a manageable gap to those behind you.

We had an issue with Race 10 though. Those that completed this short burst up Mt. Ventoux in under 30 seconds, ended up getting a DNF from ROUVY and as this impacted quite a few riders, we felt it was best just to remove this race from the event completely and make sure we don’t feature it again. Shame really as it was the first time we’d used this one and it did offer something different to the other routes.

So, 15 races then, even though those featured below did all 16! Well done to this list of riders who all managed to push themselves to get to the end. Its relatively easy to pop along and race along one or two and even win one or two, but that’s not really in the spirit of the event which is meant to kinda’ replicate a HIIT workout session, but keeping it on the competitive side, so out of 76 different riders who came along, massive respect to the riders in the table below who did them all!

We also arranged 2 other mini competitions whilst this was going on. If you noticed, some of the Race titles were labeled “Sprint 1 2 etc” for the 6 downhills and some were labeled “Climb 1 2 etc” for the 6 climbs. We’d spread them out so they were all different and awarded points for these separate events. Maybe some were better on the climbs?? maybe some were better on the downhills?? lets see below:

FINAL THOUGHTS:

well done to Andrus17 on a clean sweep of all 3 GC’s!! It’d be great to hear from you and how you found the event? Brilliant racing from DonMatteo_07 who got silver in all 3 but ended up 18 seconds away in the main GC though, which just shows how strong Andrus 17 was tonight! A consistent showing from Simonjp gets him the Bronze medal but only 6 seconds in front of barttt! who gets 4th in GC. 6 seconds over 15 races! 5th, 6th and 7th places goes to some OG Muckers RaTim, Andy_UP & Svard who’ve been team mates for a long time now, then comes Ketkupolkka in 8th, MikeHagen in 9th and last mention and rounding out the top 10 comes Stefan793 just 1 minute and 28 seconds behind 1st.

So were all these guys taking up the places in the 2 sperate events?? NOPE! One rider upset this stat!! Gotta’ say a massive well done to S.Ludford who claimed 5th in the Sprint classification!! Nice way to get into the mix Mucker!

Another quick props needs to go to dandikandi who, not only was she the only Female to complete all the races , but came a very respectable 23rd in the GC, 22nd in the Sprint and 23rd in the Mountain classifications! Respect!

The Next one will be April and if you have any suggestions or ideas, please pop them into the comments as nothing is set in stone yet? i am toying with throwing in a lap of bad homburg next time and also doing something with bonus seconds for the sprint and mountain winners but just ideas at the moment…. let me know what you think..

thanks again for joining in and i really hope you enjoyed it.

i do love these events! had to use the mobile as i wasn’t even risking a glitch or 2 with the ipad, so although i couldn’t see much around me, i still did ok! 16th in the GC is miles better than i expected as well as i was dead for the last 2 or 3!

Not appearing in the Mountain Classification top 30 may have exposed my tactical approach to this event 😉. I spent 6 routes racing and 10 routes recovering, respect to everyone giving it beans on all 16.

I haven’t had a ‘mention’ for about 2 years so it was all worth it. It’s a great event and a good reminder of the importance of occasional HIIT sessions. Maybe I’ll go for the Overall GC next time 😉😂.

My first HIIT and it was really fun to join 😀
its a demanding combination of a super chaotic mass start, the determinimg the position of the bunch and those in front and behind, and all while sprinting far above your http://ftp... pretty intense haha but will still join next time 😉
thanks for organizing Neil and other Muckers
    hope

thanks for the comments Bart and well done on an amazing effort. All in, you were flat out for just over 17 minutes but you gotta’ admit, it feels a lot longer doesn’t it! lol

I loved this event, Neil, and I appreciate the behind-the-scenes work you do beforehand, to set it up, and afterwards, to compile the results, as well as write posts like this.
Thanks for the shoutout (dandikandi). With all the race pressure and massive drafting advantage, I also managed to collect a handful of Rouvy QOMs! I really wonder why other women didn’t join this event.
See you at the next one!

    • Neil Rushby says:

hi, thanks for jumping into the comments. We do normally have other ladies take part, some were not well and others on holiday (but watching, like Silvia was), so hopefully you’ll have some female competition as well next time! But you represented them all perfectly! well done again

  5. Simonjp says:

Love these events – totally frantic, but huge fun. After completing the first 3 or 4 sprints I thought my legs were toast, but you have to keep going and putting maximum effort right till the end. Thanks for organising Mucker.

    • Neil Rushby says:

yep, after the 4th it suddenly feels just getting to half way is going to be a stretch doesn’t it! lol. Its interesting looking at average watts for each race as if its like mine, the first 2 or 3 are really high, then a dip, then a slight increase then somehow steady till the last 2 or 3!

i find the hardest ones are when your just closing in on riders near the end and you have to summon even more effort to pass them before the end! those ones really hurt!!

      Well done on the podium!

  6. Andrus17 says:

Another great HIIT event, very fun and a good workout. Muckers deserve congratulations for organizing competitive and very funny events that keep us entertained several days a week. Keep up the excellent work! 👏

    • Neil Rushby says:

Thank you for the kind words and well done on the Win! You absolutely smashed it but i have to admit it was a bit of a relief to see you didn’t win every race lol. But certain ones, like race 8 where you won by over 3 seconds, really helped your GC standings. stage 5, where you finished 3rd, you still got over 2 seconds on Don so it all adds up and just shows you have to keep pushing all the way to the line no matter what position you are in. Which in turn, makes it a proper HIIT session which is all we are after! Well done again and thanks for commenting!

  7. Tomáš Hloušek says:

When Neil announced firstly this event I thought, yes free day for me. This is just riding that I hate. But when you’re Mucker you will try it, so I tried it. It was terrible, I was dead. But I jumped in again. So it was clear, that I’ll be in every 5th Thursday this year. It wasn’t fun for me, but solid and hard part of training, which I would never do without this event. I was surprised that I could hold the best riders in 15 races, the last one I was empty and dead again. 5th in GC that’s much higher than I expected, nice surprise for me.

  8. Mike Hagen says:

Like Tomas, I was thinking this fifth Thursday would be a free day, but then I thought, what the heck, I’ll do it. Glad I did. It was fun! It was intense! It was hard! The time went so fast! It’s not the kind of thing I’m best at, so I’m very pleased to hit the top 10. Thanks for organizing, Neil! You definitely have a talent for coming up with fun, oddball events.
