MUCKERS 2025 DECEMBER CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 2.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

Fergana Valley | Tajikistan | 12.98 miles | 387 ft. climbing

ROUVY SAYS: Ride through the fertile Fergana Valley where fields, orchards and villages lie against a backdrop of tall mountains. The road is mostly gentle, offering a contrast of green farmland and distant rocky peaks.

WE SAY: time for the flat out flat race!! But then when you’re on the line…. its more like “oh crap! it’s the flat out flat race where i need a rocket start just to maybe get top 50!!” But This the race for all of us who struggled on the climb last week so lets have it!

196 individual riders set a time over the 9 different start times with the main race getting 99 finishers on its own and we had a really good 39 riders have a go at the day early, non-draft recon version as well.

We left the rules alone last week due to some issues so tonight we can apply them. So lets see how many stuck to the rules: 149 riders are in. 2 males under 60kgs, 1 rider hit 5.0w/kg and i know he’s a regular racer but rules are rules and we have deleted everyone all year long who have averaged 5.0w/kg or higher. I don’t think he’s been a DSQ before so maybe the result is down to a trainer that needs re calibrating?? So that means the rest of the disqualifications were down to no heart rate data

We’ve also hit the relearn for the categories even though NITEOR advised there’s still issues with it but give it a go.

TO FINISH OFF:

So that’s the easy race done with!😏😉. Not a bad race with some really strong results all the way along. This months championship is way too hard to call right now as well and the top. The top 3 in the worlds had a strong result from the leader BareRemi, Karel in 2nd had to the Recon version so only set a time good enough for 39th and 3rd place VeloBuch hit 5.0w/kg average so got disqualified! So BareRemi pretty much has one hand on the World championship trophy, But he also flys quite close to the 5.0 as well and that last race TT might just catch a few riders out. Lets see what happens!

The Categories seem to look ok, and we have finally decided what to do with category Bonus Points Next year. We are going to award the top 3 in each category 10, 7 & 5 points from 1st to 3rd. But these points will only be added to your world championship points and only if you finished in the top 50 places. So we don’t mess around with the month end result (as we do enough messing with that with the ballast), but if you were top 3 in your category AND you finished top 50 at the end of the month, you will get a nice bonus to your World championship points for that month.

Ballast is staying the same

Points for top 51 placings are staying the same, but from 52 downwards, it will only decrease by 0.1 point rather than the 0.25 we have at the moment. This is our attempt to help those who race all 4 races still keep decent points adding up and get more chance to get into the top 50 at the end of the month and hopefully get some of the lower category winners into the top 50 as well so they get the Bonus World Championship points as well. We also want to stop riders getting those really low 60-70 points when the race is packed like today. Those points are erm pointless when added up over the 4 races, especially if we want to keep it competitive all the way down the results table.

We start in January next year and run for 12 months. But we will still only count your best 10 world championship results out of the 12. So you can basically miss 2 months and it won’t affect anything.

And lastly for tonight, you know how we are making the first race every month as a non-draft race? Basically doing this so every time slot has at least 1 race where the draft doesn’t matter, well, we will be running a separate championship just based on this first race a month. So a 12 race TT championship for the year. SO if you’re thinking of a year off or something else, maybe just pop along for the first race every month and give it the no draft beans. This championship will be pure power and nothing to do with draft, but run in conjunction with the normal monthly championship.

That is just a quick/brief run down of what we are doing next year, we are putting together a more comprehensive blog explaining everything in more depth for the Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday events. So keep an eye out for that before the start of the year as we kick off with the First race of the championship on the first of January ( we have also scheduled the same start times on the 2nd as well just for this first race as not everyone’s going to be free on new years day)

Okay, lastly, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to all those that put some merch orders in over the last week or so! Absolutely blown away by it and we honestly appreciate every single order you guys put in. That was a great Xmas present for me and Kyle and just means the site can go on for a while longer without costing us as well. If you have any thoughts on what you’d like adding to the shop or what we might be missing, please let us know.

Always remember that ROUVY is just an indoor training app and we create these races and championships just to try and keep you motivated and engaged and hopefully either keep your fitness going or get stronger. Its not the most important thing in the world so lets have fun doing it!

Many thanks again, thanks for racing with us and thanks for reading the blog, especially those that read to the very end.

That was a tough race! rocket start was ok, but i was just struggling to keep to a nice speed and soon got dropped but thankfully, a few of us got dropped and we ended up in a large group around the 50th place area. After about 7 miles i was starting to feel ok, hr kinda settled (or just not hurting as much lol) so i was just watching gaps and figures and trying to conserve energy for that last long yellow part. Didn’t have a sprint in me but emptied the tank anyway just to see and i think i got 2 or 3 of them on the line but that was probably down to them not trying rather than anything to do with me lol

Good news though, Squallo has finally been bumped up to A5 😂😂💪. I just need a few more riders getting the same bump and A6 will be mine lol ALLLLL MINE!!!!

It’s start a world plot to me 🧐🤣…. It was a nice but very hard race also this night 💪
      Nice group this night 🫡😎🦈

    • sunniva says:

Yes, this race was so fast from the start that I lost a lot of strength to be in your group. The last climb defeated me. You lost me, and I had to climb alone, working about 3w/kg. But the effort paid off, and after the second race I’m back in 67th place (after the first, I was outside the top 100).
The second race add-on was a really nice, friendly ride, thank you all 🙂

      • Neil Rushby says:

When i could see you getting dropped i really tried my best to back off to keep you in the draft, but not loose the draft up front.. Then when it was 50ft behind to you and 40 to the guys up front i had a 50/50 choice so went with trying to stay with the pack and if i got dropped, at least i could then wait for you and we’d ride in together. Luckily i stayed with them but i was regretting it quite a lot when it started to hurt more lol

  2. Mike Hagen says:

Yes, that was a tough race! Gotta say, I feel for VeloBuch getting DSQd. Seems he started late, and he was with my group for a bit. Then he surged on the middle ramp, got 100 m up, but we caught him again. He surged again, got away, but we almost caught him again at the finish. So that 5 W/kg he was doing was soloing trying to make his way up the field. But on a flat course you just can’t get away from a motivated chase group. And we were motivated. We picked up maybe a dozen riders shed from the group ahead, and I know we were losing folk off the back of our group as well. Into the finish, we were a group of 13, but even doing my best 90-day 1-minute W in that last two minutes, I could barely hang on. Kudos to all that finished! That was fast.

    • Andy_UP says:

True! I saw VeloBuch go at the foot of the yellow ramp, he held 5 to 7w/kg all the way up. Started at 200m behind and came as close as 30m to our group, but then the yellow ended, downhill started and the gap got bigger again. I didn’t mind, meant 1 place higher up the result. But even with that in mind, I felt a bit sorry for him.

      • Neil Rushby says:

I honestly feel for VeloBuch as well and if there was any way i could just have let him off i would have but its one of the 3 basic rules. If we hadn’t already applied this rule several times already in the past, i’d have been in a better place, but we have dsq’d riders already this year for this so it has to stand so its fair to everyone.

You could feel his frustration coming out on his Facebook post and we’ve all been there after a race that’s gone badly through no fault of our own. But we need to keep the championships integrity intact rather than have everyone feel we bend the rules now and again when something bad happens to one rider.

  3. Klinthomie says:

I had a dream start, even found myself in first place a couple of times, but alas – it was a dream, and I was dropped. And then I was dropped again. Tried my best to stay in the group with Mike and RaTim, but as soon as there is a slight incline, my butt gets dropped!

I hope to improve on this soon.

I was a bit disappointed in myself after the race, not gonna lie, but then I saw I had my best power output for 20 min – so I guess it was just a very hard race. On paper, the route felt perfect for me.

Next week I’ll have 50k coins and I can get new wheels – curious to see what kind of difference that makes, if any!

Thanks for a fun race as always and thanks for organizing, Neil!

    • Neil Rushby says:

thanks for jumping into the comments Mucker! We’ve all had that post race disappointment, only to then get the new PBs rewards pop up and you get that “oh! must just have been an incredibly competitive race then!”

quick tip before spending your money! Use the route analyzer on NITEOR for the next few races and see what wheels and frames come up as the ones to have. The ratings on ROUVY aren’t the best to go off on their own. for example, i bought some wheels that were 100.000 coins back in the day that had great ratings, popped them on the bike and didn’t improve at all. Then started to use the analyzer and found the wheels I’d just spent all my coins on were never featured as the fastest wheels, nor the 2nd or 3rd fastest on any route we raced on! yet your stuck with them in your garage and can’t sell them or anything. So spend wisely, and if you have to wait till you have a few more coins to get the better wheels of frame, then do so.

      • Klinthomie says:

Thanks Neil! I have used the Route Analyzer and asked around on Reddit, and it seems like for 50k, the Bike Ahead wheels will do the most improvement for me (also with the upcoming Mucker routes).

More so than getting a new frame, actually. I am excited for this!

If you have any tips, I do truly appreciate them – have also read a couple of the articles in here.

Sometimes I wonder if it is worth it getting virtual gearing set up, instead of shifting manually with my racer … do you have any experiences or thoughts on this?

        See you thursday 🙂

        • Neil Rushby says:

Kyle uses virtual shifting and he rates it. I’m on a Wattbike Atom smart bike so already have it built in. But to me virtual shifting really seems to have helped a lot of riders who were stuck with maybe too narrow a gear set on the bike they were using, or to eliminate excess wear and tear on there bikes.

  4. Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

I’m waiting with impatience this race, one because I wanted to recover in cat table A6 and second it’s a flat route or similar. Now I become to 5 days of training and as ever my legs are hard… but I want to try to attack … I think “ok, my week rest day it’s now only Friday… tomorrow will be Friday 🤣”.
Good start but not optimal start, I take my mates RaTim and Mike… could be a top situation for me… but my legs don’t give me all the power that I need and I must lost this strong group… 🤷‍♂️
Now work and hope in another good group and I’m lucky to find it.
Always an eyes to my direct competitor in A6, as ever I hold a good pace in front but never can escape from this… I’m very happy to find more collaborations, thanks to everyone who ride with me, Slyfly, Rouvy1bryon, Neil, Valriz, Duckman2 and Bates1980.
At the end??? My tactics about A6 result wrong, why? Because now I’m promoted In A5 😜💪🤣
    Ciao to everyone 👋🫶🏻🦈

    • Paul bateman says:

We were doing great in that group but my legs died in that last yellow bit lol

      • UncleE64 says:

Congrats on the promo! No sandbagging the rest of the month. Neil, Sunniva, Slyfly, ValRdz and I are quite happy to see you in A5. Cheers!

    • Neil Rushby says:

Well done Mucker, we might see you yo-yo between A5 and A6 for a while as you must be right on the line. But you deserve the bump up and pretty much show the rest of us it might actually be possible to get promoted. It’ll be my aim for 2026!

  5. Hans HM says:

Unfortunately my (admittedly expected) complaining about an extremely boring route on discord before the race had a very motivating effect on Remi, so he launched a viscious attack on the first longer incline that completely split the group. Sorry about that.
Thankfully I managed to hold on and stay with the frontgroup – otherwise it would have been a bit embarrassing afterwards 😅
But my complaining was more about a completely straight road full of trucks and cars and asphalt so bad that you were glad there is no such thing a a virtual crash yet (“green farmland and distant peaks” – did you put in the wrong description Neil 🤣) – so give me the inspirational suffering of the Dolomites anytime 🚵🏼‍♂️🇮🇹👍🏻😎 or at least the really pretty valley also in Tajikistan were I had a cool down afterwards when I had managed to miss the start of the add-on race.

    • Neil Rushby says:

i best re check i copied and pasted the right route information from ROUVY me think as i didn’t see any of that either 😂. There’s been a bit of chat on our WhatsApp ground since this “boring route” about what tactics were used and how can some improve etc etc, and it seems the simplest advise was to “find BareRemi and stick to his back wheel” lol.

That’s kinda my tactic already depending on the start profile as downhill start means i can get into the top group with a rocket start, but once you all start throwing down steady 5.0s…. well, I’m not sticking to anyone’s back wheel and fall back to the next pack!

      thanks for the comments Mucker

  6. Paul Bernstein says:

I wasn’t there, because of eye surgery, but many of you now know I always have something to say. AI told me 4 to 6 weeks before hard efforts again, but more false AI information. My eye surgeon who is serious ultra marathon runner and bike rider said you can start easy today on the trainer, and then in one week go hard as you want. so, you may enjoy my company again sooner than I thought…cheers

    • Neil Rushby says:

take your time Mucker the races will still be being scheduled. We’ve not known you long but i feel you are “eye’s out” every time you get on the bike!! But remember, you can just join the race and ride at a set power/HR without having to “race”…. I’ve found in my 4 or 5 years on ROUVY that some find that concept very alien, but trust me, you can do it! And it also teaches discipline. 😉

  7. Chris says:

Please let me know if TT Bikes are allowed again at Rouvy races? One of my race mates flew by with a TT Bike.

    • Neil Rushby says:

Hi Chris, i am guessing you were on the Wednesday “RECON” race? If so, that race is always non-draft and any races set up as non-draft on ROUVY means you can select a TT Bike if you want, Some TT races might be hilly so it’s up to you what you choose, but the option is there.

So just as a reminder for what’s coming up: The last race in this years championship is a TT race. Because the last race falls on Xmas Day, we scheduled a TT option but over 3 days so hopefully everyone finds a slot they can work with and it dodn’t matter if you were in it alone as everyone will be alone/no draft for this one. Its on the 24th, 25th, and 26th.

The 2026 championship will be non-draft TT for every “RECON” race.

And lastly, every 1st race in the month will be a TT race no matter what the race is called, so every time slot is run in exactly the same conditions and we get a true picture of where everyone is at the start of the month without the draft interfering with the results.

  8. UncleE64 says:

Man, I was pumped for this one. Was halfway through a nice warm-up when I noticed my HR monitor had died! Turns out my unit uses 4 of those weird hex screws. By the time I found the right tool, got the damned thing unscrewed and battery replaced I had missed the start of the main race. So . . . I watched the end of the “main race” on Rouvy and then got ready for the last start time. It went pretty well, but I couldn’t come near to holding Thomas Lyhne’s wheel when he sped past on the first little incline – even though he’s done the main race an hour earlier – wow! Anyway, that left 6 of us in a group and somehow I only got 30% draft factor. You know what that means: I was pulling a lot. I kept trying to get other folks to pull, but I suspect some had done the earlier race and others weren’t interested in the overall time – just playing for a “good place” behind T. Lhyne in this particular heat. I will say that after seeing the power numbers Mucker74 and Squalo and others were putting up on that last yellow section in the earlier race, I don’t think I could have hung in, but it would have been fun to try. Next week hopefully 😉

    • Neil Rushby says:

oh man that’s such a shame! I spent the race thinking you were further up the road as well which gave me extra motivation lol. This is the perfect example as to why i asked ROUVY for the option to select 1 or 2 riders that you can always have in your nearby list so you know where they are!

But yeah, that last yellow section was “I’m not getting dropped, I’m not getting dropped!!!!” lol so wasn’t even looking at the stats, just doing everything i could to stay with the group!!

A6 is very competitive though so we need to push on again next week. Also if Squallo has a bad one then he might drop down to us as well so nothings set in stone at all. Looking forward to next weeks!

      • Klinthomie says:

I would love that option to have “favourites” as I do have some people I constantly measure myself up against. Great idea!

  9. Chris says:

Maybe you can help me with that: Chat gpt doesn’t help me either. 😉
I use a smart trainer with watt measurement (Garmin Tacx Neo2T) for my virtual rides on Rouvy. My bike also has a power meter built into the crankshaft, and I use a Garmin Edge 1030 plus to measure power on the bike. So the watt measurements come from both the smart trainer and the bike’s power meter. Do I need to turn off the Garmin Edge or deactivate the power meter on the bike? Which watt measurement is more accurate? I haven’t had any problems so far, but I think the VO2 max is being calculated incorrectly. I have no idea.

    • Neil Rushby says:

so sorry but this question is well above my pay grade lol. i can’t even guess which would give the most accurate power… so i suppose it depends on what you want to get out of your training on ROUVY? if you want to train harder then use the power reader that gives the lowest amount. If you want to finish higher and maybe fool yourself and then when you get out in the real world you struggle?? remember we always say its a training app so use it as such?? but that’s just an opinion Mucker and maybe not much help?

      • Chris says:

Hi Neil, I rephrased my question for CHAT GPT several times and depending on how you ask, you always get a different answer.

*This is the most common reason for*
        – Unrealistic recovery times
        – Falling VO₂max
        – “Unproductive” training status despite hard training

*Recommended configuration (strongly advised)* for Indoor riding (Rouvy, trainer)
        – Use only the Tacx Neo 2T as the power source.
        – Garmin Edge 1030 Plus: Disable or unpair the Quarq power meter
Best: temporarily remove it from sensors
        – Pair Tacx Neo 2T as: Power sensor, Speed sensor, (Optional) Cadence

Pair a heart-rate chest strap (mandatory for VO₂max)!

        RESULT:
        – Garmin and Rouvy see the same power
        – VO₂max, recovery time, and training load become consistent and realistic
