MUCKERS JUNE CHAMPIONSHIP. RACE 1. 06/06/24

ROUVY Route Used: Snake River Canyon | Wyoming | USA | 28.62 miles | 1220 ft climbing

Introduction:

Only a 4 week championship this month so it’s always exciting to see who jumps on this first “smart trainer only” race and to see if it’s any of the big hitters in the world championship! No checks for the first round, which makes it so much easier for me, and we get to award every rider than finishes some points and see if they can stay top 50 to the end of the month!

REMEMBER! NO CHECKS CARRIED OUT ON THIS 1ST ROUND. THE NEXT 3 ROUNDS WILL BE STATS CHECKED SO MAKE SURE WE ARE FRIENDS ON ROUVY AND YOU SUPPLY HEART RATE DATA TO CARRY ON SCORING FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH

So lets get to it, nice long route to start with and some killer hills just to test those who are just holding onto a pack they really have no right to be in 😉 but, first lets see how the different start times to the main race faired:

Nice to see a Mucker get the win tonight with a super strong showing from “Tuden” We then have proper close finish for the next 3 positions with “przemokrk” getting 2nd, another Mucker “nielsbrynnum” 3rd and then “lrollin” 4th! The next 3 wern’t that far away either with “DonMatteo_07” getting 5th, “karel_sousek” 6th and “PalGravem” 7th. The next 2 looked to have solo’d to the end with “RocketRoy” getting 8th and “tranberg” 9th, leaving a massive sprint for the final mention place which goes to Canadian Mucker “MikeHagen”!!!

Only top 10 mentions at the moment due to less than 50 riders on the start line so if none of you guys have gotten yourself a special mention T-Shirt from the shop, why not?? Are you not proud of this accomplishment anymore?? 🤨😏😁 If not, please let us know and we can try and work something else out and maybe drop the top 10 mentions and the blogs for a while. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Well done everyone, this was a long race and especially if you weren’t getting much draft! That’s some commitment to getting the route done as it was long!

Hopefully see you on Sunday, Tuesday or back here for round 2 of the championship next Thursday.

Cheers, Neil (Mucker1974)

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

28th in the championship and the lesson for me tonight was don’t ever relax when in the pack as i really thought i was nice and safe, took a drink then got dropped as they all sprinted away on a downhill section! even when i was out of the draft and creating 1w/kg more than the rider in front, he still kept pulling away and then i was done!! gutted!! was really enjoying it in the pack as well and had just hung onto them all up the first real hill!! spent probably 25mins then on my own, knowing the pack behind were gonna get me at some point as they looked to have about 5 riders switching places but i wasn’t gonna make it easy for them so kept a nice enough pace that they had to at least burn a few matches to get to me.

got swallowed up by the pack and we rode together very nicely and into a sprint finish which i just about won. great race and lesson learned.

Really big group for the whole race tonight, but my biggest decision was to get into it. In the first mile I was 200ft behind and realised I needed to get across or miss the train. This required a big 6w/kg effort and I had to spend the next 3 miles hiding in the pack trying to recover…to be honest, I tried to spend the whole race trying to recover, this was a very strong group for me. I finally ‘cracked’ with a couple of miles remaining, Mucker Squalo stayed close and helped draft me to the end which I needed and appreciated.
Strangely, my IF, bpm and watts were exactly the same as Tuesday, Tuesdays race felt terrible because I made bad racing decisions, Thursdays race felt great because I made good decisions. Either way, I still get a great workout.
    Race stats: Age : 57, Weight : 95kg, IF=0.99
    Averages : 155bpm, 278w, 2.93w/kg.

My first indoor ride after a week away, but it turns out that rest is good: felt strong and had good legs. Hung with the lead pack for the first 20 minutes, but I knew it wouldn’t last. Sure enough, shat off the back on the first big ramp at 13 km, the top nine drifting away, but I had SillySilNL just behind, while m-forby and vcycling198 were just ahead. I doubled down; if I couldn’t catch Morten and vcycling by the top, they would be gone, and I’d wait for Silvia. Caught them, how about that, and we rode together for a few kms. Morten seemed to be testing us. He caught me completely by surprise by attacking on a downhill, of all places, but I was able to get back on his wheel a few hundred meters later. We’d gapped vcycling, however, and he glitched or otherwise disconnected shortly after that. Coming into the finish, I really wanted to get the 10th place mention over no-name 11th, but I had no expectation of out-sprinting Morten. But I’d give it a shot. I went with about 250 m to go, did the second best 30 second power I’ve ever done (according to Strava), and, once I could see and breathe again, I saw that Morten hadn’t even contested the sprint! So a mention for me, my first top-ten mention since last September. Pleased with that. Maybe I should rest more?

Very good race with usual suspects. With flat profile, but over one hour, it was quite challenging for everyone. Firstly you needed to stay vigilant in big ~15 group. It took more than half of the race until we were 9. I was more active in front whenever profile went at least few meters up. Few times it looked like ~5 can get into breakaway, but something was missing into puzzle. These little pushes caused i could start to feel fatique and lack of water, as i did a bit faster running before in a warm day.

Tuden / lrollin almost escaped before finish, but we rejoined and got into big sprint finish. Unfortunately got little app glitch when video froze in 800-400m to go, a bit of distraction and top sprinters were gone, but to be honest i could not follow them anyway. Very good race, enjoyed it, thank you everyone!

  5. Niels brynnum says:

Great race 👏🏻👏🏻, – the front group was fairly large until the kicker hill after 20 min. reduced the group by half. With 15 km+ to go we were only 8 left super strong 💪🏻 💪🏻 riders Tuden, Karel_S, Lrollin, RocketRoy, Przemokrk, Donmatteo, Palgravem. It was like Tuden was determined to finish the race in a sprint as he wheeled in any attempt to break away. Coming into the last km I knew Tuden💪🏻💪🏻 was the one to keep a eye on 🚴🏻‍♂️💨💨 Tuden smashed the sprint 👏🏻👏🏻 from the front pushing up to insane 15w/kg 🥵 I clearly couldn’t stay in his wheel. Lrollin and Przemokrk, – I think, have had kind of the same idea as the 3 of us ended up having a super close battle for 2,3 and 4 place.

  6. Henrik Jørgensen says:

Pretty predictable route today. There were quite a few small hills, but not steep enough to make a difference. So it was draft for all the money right to the end. Started the first third of the route in a large group of about 15-20 riders. But as we got further into the race there were a good 10 left. Strong riders like Karel Š, Niels Brynnum, Laurent Rolling, Przemyslaw and myself tried to see if we could make the gap, but it was closed down every time of course It all ended more or less mass sprint. The rising sprint suited me perfectly and I could take the win. Thanks to everyone who made it a great and fun race.

And 4 Danes in top 11!! Super 66

  7. Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

Nice race, long with lots of climbs but no long climbs… just right for me. At the start I considered staying with the second group, the first would certainly soon become painful. I always competed in the top positions even if I gave few ideas, I worked to maintain a good speed and a good draw. Many close friends, Regina, Loudford, kyle, Neils… and many others. After the most challenging first climb, we split up, and when my friend Silvia got caught, I already knew it wasn’t over. Another strong break and Loudford and I teamed up, I think we both decided to help each other to finish well, and since Kyle and Boogybill70 were behind us we had to do it very well. In the end we held on, and maybe I didn’t have the energy for a bad sprint, I saw Steven move away in the last 200 metres, I slowed down to finish together but he wanted to give me the position… finally Top 20 but logically without a mention 🤣. Thanks everyone 💪

  8. DuckMan2 says:

I see Berty Basset is in there. Nice to see a face from years on a different platform. Still trying to get back to a semblance of form after a month of being laid low by C-19. Great bunch of riders in Muckers I must say and lots of good competition. 60+ group, I know we can join the groupetto in front of us if we can work on grabbing Mike Hagen ‘s wheel and keep the swap train rolling.
