MUCKERS JUNE CHAMPIONSHIP. RACE 2. 13/06/24

Rouvy Route Used: Seligman | Route 66 | Arizona | USA | 19.2 miles | 925 ft

Introduction:

This looks like a good race result coming up today. Nice distance and not to much climbing and the actual climbing we do isn’t in the red or dark orange so as long as you are in the draft, you will just about get dragged up and over the climbs! But keep your whit’s about you as if you get dropped, you will be slow on the climbs and inevitably get caught by the next train!

I’ve just completed the checks on the top 50 of the main race and we have a large number of NEDs who will be removed if i don’t hear anything back off some of these riders over the next few hours. So for those new riders, We need to be friends on here so i can check your stats. Also if we are friends, I need to see Heart rate data to just quickly see that when your efforts go up, so does the heart rate. A total flat line will also get a NED as something is clearly wrong with your set up if you suddenly up the power and the heart rate stays the same. Plus, if it doesn’t drop when you are in the draft and almost rolling… well… come on, this isn’t really racing on a level playing field.

What a shame only 1 rider out of all the extra start times is eligible to be included in the Championship points. All the others have been sent friends requests but no one has accepted.

The full run down can be found on a separate blog on the website, but seeing as we had 4 riders who are friends but no HR data, 2 riders who have had friends requests sent in the past and never accepted and finally 7 riders riding with us for the first time tonight, i felt it prudent to just add this reminder of the championship rules.

considering we have bang on 50 riders finish, this means we don’t have a cut off for any rider to get away with out any checks, everyone will be stats checked today to see if they can have any points allocated to them. Long night ahead for me!! So lets do as much as possible tonight and see how everyone has done in the races that are now classified as finished:

Over 50 on the start line?? in June?? wow, its been over a month since we had over 50 on a Muckers Championship race so we can now get back to a top 20 mention!

“Tuden” is in some form at the moment! Another gold in the bag tonight but it was at least a 5 way fight and could have been anyone’s!! Unfortunately, 2nd place has to be a NED due to no HR data in their stats so its “przemokrk” who gets the 2nd mention tonight and leads the rest of the top 50 in getting a jump up in places! “Stefan_Schmidt” is next , closely followed by “nelsonsnyder” All these riders finishing well within a second of each other!

5th comes “lrollin” just in front of “karel_sousek” in 6th then in no-mans-land comes “nielsbrynnum” in 7th.

Next we have 2 new riders so I am going to leave the blog here for tonight and carry on tomorrow to give them the best chance to accept my friends request over the next 18 or so hours.

I’m back!! only one rider accepted over night so thank you James, you are now included. So we have 12 NEDs to be removed from the Muckers Standings below. OK that’s done, lets carry on!

8th place goes to “Stefan793” , just in front of “m-forby” in 9th who then had fellow countryman “kjohannessesn” rounding out the top 10. 11th comes Spaniard “KlausKinski_GURE” then another Dane, making it 5 in the top 12, “hj2010” who got the exact same time as top Canadian and Muckers team rider “MikeHagen”! Nice to see “Berty-Bassett6” back to his strong ways in 14th, young gun “DonMatteo_07” in 15th then tonight’s top placed Female rider “SillySilNL” in 16th!

17th comes “JamesMcGrann” who i am hoping is now happy to be involved properly having already got a mention after just accepting the friends request, then we have a nice Muckers duo next with “Rens_Piccavet” in 18th and “Mick_Michel”. Final mention goes to “Dariusz” for a strong ride to get our Muckers Worldwide 20th place classification!

For those that don’t know, we have merchandise on the website and we have special T-Shirts in various languages and colors celebrating the special mention achievement. Have a look, you might like them??

i’ve also not wrote this for a while but remember if you have raced on a Muckers race and we can see your stats through friendship, you are now more than welcome to use the Muckers Worldwide team name! you are one of us now… if you want to be that is…..😉

And finally we have a whatsapp and a discord channel that you are also more than welcome to jump onto and chat away with us. The discord is open to everyone, the Whatsapp is for you long termers who have raced with us for a few months, enjoy what we do and what we stand for and want to get involved with the 30ish other Muckers from around the world and chat. you’ve just gotta be ready for the constant pings from your phone!!

ok, enough waffling. lets get the points sorted and get this blog published!

cheers everyone, Mucker1974

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

superb race route. tried to hang on to a group much faster but i eventually got dropped… but luckily so did a few others so i wasn’t then stuck solo! 3 or 4 of us worked really well together and picked up a few others that got dropped along the way. 5 way sprint at the end and i just timed it right to get the win! Just! really enjoyed that.

As Neil said, a really good route for racing. I tried to get into a fast group. That went quite well. We had a good group with a good number of riders. At some point the group split up and I actually managed to stay in the first group. However, I thought to myself, it’s good that there’s another group behind me. I will probably have to let go the first group at some point. To my surprise, it went really well. I was also able to push good wattages on the small climbs and stayed in the group. Shortly before the finish on the last small climb, Rens made an attack. I was probably the only one who was wide awake at that moment and was able to follow him. We both managed to open up a good gap and rode to the finish together. I didn’t have enough power left for a sprint. But still, totally happy 😉

BTW: A dream comes true, top 20. Crazy stuff! 🤩

Another exciting race, however this time i did not play significant role there. Coldness still present, but like on Tuesday i was feeling better than in the morning, so few intensities should not harm. Very good lineup of strong riders and with mostly flat profile we stayed packed till first bumps. Few riders were dropped later on once we reached more challenging bumps before end.
During main attack i lost contact with top5, still had chance get back behind Nelson, but this time i could not produce required power. Such a shame, but that is life! Then the leaders were gone, so i just pushed as much as possible till the end, not sprinting. Very nice race again, one need to be really ready and sprinting for podium is never guaranteed. Thank you all who joined.

  4. Mike Hagen says:

A rolling course with a couple of sharper ramps; I thought this could go well. Almost half the field tried to get into the lead pack off the start, but about 14 got away, and a group of 10 or so formed behind them. It took to the steeper bit at 19 km to break that second group up, I was pleased to go with the top there. The second steeper bit at 25 km broke us up further. Stefan793 and, I think, kjohaanssen, powered away; vcycling198, hj2010, and I couldn’t quite keep up; and Berty-Bassett6 and DonMateo_07 fell back. Into the last 500 m, jockeying for position with vcycling and hj2010, I was too bagged to go early like I might normally do. Just waiting for any sign of a twitch to respond to, suddenly saw we only had 200 m to go, lost my nerve and just went! Caught vcycling napping, but hj2010 responded instantly. He eased ahead, I doubled down, closed the gap, side-by-side, and crossed the line! Who got it? It was him, but my highest 5 second power in over two years, so I don’t care. That was great!

Firstly – it’s good to be back and thanks for having me , secondly I am older ( no wiser ) but kind of happy with power results on a course like that so sort of happy with result but the problem is everyone else is getting better !! Last week I convinced myself it was poor concentration that gapped me from the group I was clinging onto , this week I had it drummed into me that the group I had latched onto (sorry I didn’t do a turn – I couldn’t ) could and did grind me into the dirt and leave me for dead whenever they chose and when I saw the people behind knocking out 7wkg that finish line seemed a million miles away ! Thanks again – enjoyed it

  6. JamesMcGrann says:

I had no idea this place existed. Really nice set-up and seems a great community. I hope to continue to join the races – at the very least to make up the numbers!
