MUCKERS THURSDAY RACE WITHIN A RACE. 17/10/23

RACE FOR THE WIN OR GO FOR THE ZONE 5 HEART RACE RACE!

135 Registered | 90 Starters | 73 Finishers (27 riders not classified due to no hr data) | 17 DNF | 45 DNS

We break our registered riders record yet again tonight! new record of 135! For a route that looks just as flat as the Championship race we had on Tuesday as well, so thank you for keeping up the interest but its another Challenge route chalked off and a really good route for a zone race!

Race Within a Race:

We also had our best ever participation in the “Race within a race” Max Zone 5 Heart Rate race with 17 riders making sure they didn’t go into zone 6 for anything over 60 seconds! It was actually a 3 way sprint for the win as well with “Grochang” getting the win just in front of silver medal winner “Squalo_delle_Alpi” and “Stefan_Smit” getting the bronze! Muckers Worldwide Team rider “MikeHagen” gets 4th place then we have the awesome “SillySilNL” getting a mention for the women with a 5th place!!

Main Race:

We have a new winner!!! “Dennis_R” just gets the better of regular super strong rider “nelsonsnyder” in 2nd, and, if i’m not mistaken, A first muckers race podium for “krisskinder” who crossed the line 3rd but still well under 1 second behind the winner!

2 Italian riders come next, just 90 seconds later with “Alieno79” getting 4th and “luca_ma” in 5th. We now have 4 French riders over the line next, but 2 without heart rate data visible, so “lrollin” gets the bump up to 6th and “pasjordi60” to 7th. 8th comes new Muckers Worldwide Team rider “El_Tractor” , just in front of one of the founding Muckers Team riders “Tomlerieger” in 9th. Nice how that happened!

3rd Muckers Team rider over the line “rmadden1” get the bump up to a very respectable 10th place, but only just in front of “R3-569-Diego-Donati” in 11th and closely followed by “IvanSagan86” in 12th. 13th goes to the 4th Mucker “Tom-MWW” just in front of “pavelfoltyn” in 14th.

2 more Muckers next with 15th placed “SwissChris69” who could have been the winner of the race within a race but went just over the 60 seconds allowance of zone 6 and then “uffzynda” getting 16th place.

17th, 18th and 19th comes the top 3 riders in the race within a race, so to get into the actual top 20 as well while training to a zone rate is worth another mention! well done to “Grochang”, “Squallo_delle_Alpi” and “Stefan_Smit”

So who gets the bump up to 20th and the last mention? This goes to “kvaningen” who was only 5:50s behind the winner! Well done and thank you for sticking at it!

Hope you enjoyed this tonight and got out of it what you wanted. Quite a lot of riders with no heart rate data tonight but if you aren’t bothered about taking part in the zone races or getting a mention on here, then please still feel free to race with us, we want to allow anyone on the races who feels up for it, and when you feel you want to take that next step, get a heart rate sensor, connect it and take your training to the next level.

Did i tell you if you’ve raced with us you are now allowed to add Muckers Worldwide as your team name?? Oh, good, thought I had, but here’s just a little reminder as it will just help spread the word about the group, races, website that’s for all of you.

Have a look around the site and if you see anything you’d like us to do a blog on, or even something you think might be worth adding to the shop, drop us a line and let us know. Its the Merchandise that keeps all this going and every purchase goes along way to keeping the lights on!

Don’t forget we have a rare Saturday afternoon race this weekend: link attached:

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

i chose to do the race within a race and what a great race i had with about 4 other riders doing the same!! is so much fun, racing along but keeping the heart rate in check so it doesn’t go into the zone you are trying to avoid! you are just as focused and trying to daft as much as possible, but you are not feeling like you are absolutely blowing and need to slow down. got a really nice average power as well and almost got off feeling like i’d not done anything tonight! interesting…..

I added Muckers Worldwide as my team 😎. How can I show that in the races? I would love to wear that bright blue jersey 😍

      • Neil Rushby says:

Thank you Silvia! Does that make you a Muckerette? 🙄🤦‍♂️ Not sure that works but its awesome you’ve done that. The Only way to show it in the races is to enter and finish a race where we add it to the race as a prize. Luckily we always add it to the last race in a championship which we have the last of the October championship races on Tuesday!

        • Silvia says:

Muckerette ??? 🤣😱🤪. Too bad I’m on a holiday next week, so I’ll just have to earn it in the next championship race. CU there 👍

Hi, the process when i sit down to do the reports has to be followed a certain way so i can go to bed before midnight! 🤨 I basically load up the final standings, and go through each riders stats to see if all looks good. if it looks a bit to good to be true, I send them a quick message that its been flagged and let me know if all ok?

  2. Steven Ludford says:

Z5 Race, Rouvy estimates that being 149bpm for me. I was a little sloppy at the start and just missed a big group, teammate Kyle was my only draft and last potential route to the group but I kept getting too close to Z6 to follow him. About 12 miles of solo riding followed, wishing I couldn’t see all my teammates working and drafting each other on my nearby list, and the distance between us growing … grrrrr. I then had a 3 mile ‘slow motion’ catch to shoffmann, every time I hit 149bpm I had to abort the catch, but once I bridged across, the partnership worked perfectly and I really enjoyed it. I was able to pull through and lead until I hit 149bpm then ease off and allow a very willing partner to pull while my heart rate reduced, then repeat, all the way to the finish line. Every contribution from shoffmann was appreciated, and beneficial, as it got us both to the line quicker. I sensed he was ‘up’ for a fun sprint at the end but he quickly saw I wasn’t contesting the finish (couldn’t risk the Heart Rate increase) and I think he allowed me to take the position. Enjoyed it shoffmann (no team name…hint… hint).

  3. Silvia says:

What a super idea this HR zone ‘race within a race’ 👍. It was so hard to hold back. I was in a great group of 6 around place 25, but I was at the max of my Z5 HR and had to let go 8 Km before the finish 🙄. Really frustrating if you have the power but may not use it 🤪😂. But I got rewarded: mentioned here with a 5th place 😃.
I had 1 problem today though: people were in my nearby list but I couldn’t see them and also not draft them. Only if I toggled the video quality they reappeared 🤷‍♀️. But later on it happened again. I hear more people had this problem. Can you ask Rouvy if they can do something about that? I didn’t have time to toggle my screen so often, I was to busy trying to keep up with the guys 😉.
    Loved the race anyway 🤩

    • Neil Rushby says:

Well done again Silvia and thanks for the comments. The best thing to do when you have an issue with Rouvy is to send a ticket to rouvy support yourself as they always ask who you had an issue with or where it happened and your settings or who wasn’t there etc etc etc. I had 2 riders not there on the road for ages tonight, but you just get those races sometimes.

  4. Kyle Goodram says:

Another record-breaking night! We had a whopping 135 registered riders, which is truly epic. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who participated in the Muckers Races. Our goal for this race was to stay under zone 6, a challenge I vividly remembered from the Tuesday race.

I pushed myself to the limit, giving it my all for the entire 23 miles tonight, only easing off once when my heart rate hit 153 BPM. A huge shoutout to “GhostKiller” for sticking with me throughout the entire race. With just 1 mile to go, he made his move, and I let him go ahead. I crossed the finish line in 35th position.

Once again, I’d like to thank everyone for making this another fantastic race. Looking forward to seeing you all for the Championship Finale on Tuesday, October 24th, at 7:00 pm.

  5. Mads Grosen says:

HRZ4 again or was it zone 5 on today’s race? I thought today’s race was in HRZ4 and man… did I thought I blew it all up🙈 Going 23 sec. over the minute in zone5😂
Here’s my thoughts pushing myself in zone4:
I didn’t hit the brake from the gun start. I just went full gaz. When I looked up the display showed my heart rate at 149. It took me awhile to get the heart rate under 143, and still finding the right group to ride with.
I finally settled down with Dok,_PS, Squalo, SillySilNL, Kvaningen and caught up with Stefan_smit. Dok_PS was a gentleman trying to keep the group together. Only going in Zone 4 I went too easy down in zone 3 when I was drafting. So I had to make a lot of elevator cycling instead of working as a group – hope you all can forgive me🙏
I couldn’t figure out if Squalo was trying to make a getaway with me, but every time he pushed it my HR went too fast up and had to fall back.
At the finish line Dok_PS step some big watts and Squalo went along. I didn’t knew how many seconds I had left I zone 5, so I remember saying to myself, don’t push it too hard. But the finish line deleted any common sense of a brain function🙈 went all in at the last meters and managed to take Squalo in a very close sprint🚴🏼‍♂️🚴🏼‍♂️💨 I ended up as nr. 25 unofficial and got a roll down to nr. 17.

    Ps
Rule nr.1 : I’ve got to read the race headlines before a race😉 Thanks everybody for another great event.🤟

    • Neil Rushby says:

Mate ( or should i say Mucker now….) you did this in zone 4!! definitely read what’s in the brackets though as it will change and hopefully people will get to know what the brackets mean 🤞🤞🤞

      • Mads Grosen says:

I will certainly read the headlines and bracket next time 😉
Yes please call me a Mucker, I’m beginning to like these people and events🤘

  6. Mike Hagen says:

Really hard race on Tuesday, and definitely down for the HR zone 5 race within a race today. Saw a group forming just ahead of me after the start with a lot of folk I can ride with: Dok,_PS, Squalo, SwissChris, Chak, uffzynda, Stefan_Smit, and a few others, but, nah, let them go and stay in easy zone 4 for a bit. Settled down with okshtok and had a nice draft. He didn’t seem to want to be behind; every time I tried to take a turn he’d pop right back in front again. Fine with me! Saw the group ahead slowing pulling away and thought it would be nice to be there, but I wanted to keep my HR under control. Behind, could see that kylofski, ghostkiller, and VitorF.-Bandarras were sitting only 150 m or so behind. Normally they would pop right up, but this time only Vitor did, making us a group of three. That was about the time Chak let go of the group ahead and came back; nice to see him catch a wheel and ride with us for a bit. Now solidly into zone 5 and feeling comfortable, we were losing Chak but SillySilNL was dropping back from the group ahead. She responded when we caught her, but soon fell off the back along with Chak. Into the last few hundred meters and I’m certain I’ve not been into zone 6, so I’m Go for a final sprint. But Vitor proves a little too strong for me and okshtok. But it was fun! I’m pleased with 4th in the HR5 race, and then I see I’m 21st once the non-HRM folk are not counted–so close to a mention! But it was fine — really enjoyed the slightly more relaxed pace.

  7. Lamber Manuel says:

wow what a race, first time for me in this edition with a double objective.
first of all I think that a photo finish with the exact same time is rare, but that’s how it was with our very strong friend Grochang, so half a medal each 🥇…🤣 with 500 meters to go we started like the bulls in Pamplona in the face of the HR zone.
However, a great working group with a lot of ideas from everyone, several times I tried to give some ideas to take other cyclists in front but I wasn’t sure about the result of the hr zone. Thanks not only to Grochang but also to Stefan_Smit, Doc_Ps, Kvaningen and SillySiNL and Mike Hagen.
With this group the kilometers of this race flew by, however I also noticed that sometimes some avatars were not seen on the video but I thought it was due to the proximity… anyway another fun challenge with another recording record 💪 Here we go see Tuesday for the final race guys.

  8. Torben Adolph says:

I love these race in the race. This is my second try ever to stay in a zone and despite it was zone 5 it felt really easy again. Only 18 seconds in zone 6. Those was spend well at a sprint for the 9th place in the zone5 race.
I felt very good in the zone and 4-5 times I tried to break away from the group, but everytime there’s no working together to pull further away so just in real life – we were consumed by the group.
I really hope we’ll continue having these zone races.
Big thanks to Andy for pulling us a lot of the route. And still in his zone 5 🙂
    Simply just love it

  9. KrissKinder says:

Great Event, Good ride, Great competitors 🙂 BRAVO 🙂

  10. Andy_UP says:

After a few intense races, I wanted to take it a bit slower. Decided to help some Muckers more down the pack. Ended up in a group with Mucker and Dolphwader. Tried to give them some draft and keep the tempo high. Big problem I sometimes didn’t see them and they sometimes didn’t see me. I didn’t want to restrict myself in Z5 but when I attacked on a little hill near the end, I thought I didn’t spend any time in Z6 yet so I let my hr drop back to Z5 and keep it there till the finish. Was fun!

  11. Thomas Rieger says:

My race plan was to start fast until Z6 and then slow down and stay in Z5. I was well warmed up so I had a strong start and found myself in a nice pack around place 15 with Christopher an other well known Muckers. The group was strong an the speed high, alwas Z6 or above, but I could’t let them go an retourne to Z5. So we worked good and 10K before the finish we were only three of us left: El Tractor, pasjordi60 and myself. I attacked several times in the little ascents, but without succes. My last attack 1.5K was countered by my two fellows and I had nothing left in my legs to responds. but nice 11th, but had to go all in for that! I have not the discipline for heartrate races, when I see a wheel in front of me, I will catch it, like a cat and the mouse or the donkey and the carotte: just a simple mind!

  12. Michael Michelius says:

135 registrations, wow fantastic! It’s a matter of time until the max 300 won’t be enough anymore 😉

For me it was a workout within in a race today. The first time I tried this. And I was not sure if it would go well. Usually the racer in me comes out and I don’t give a shit about the workout. But it worked quite well. Only at one point a group of 2 overtook me at a moderate pace and I jumped on their rear wheel. The little guy on my left shoulder said, “Forget your workout, follow them!” And the guy on my right shoulder: “No, no! The workout gives you more output. Let them go!” For this time I took the advice of the guy on the right and after a few seconds I let them go…

For the next weeks I plan to have my raceday on Tuesdays and my workout-within-race-day on Thursdays. Let’s see how it works out and if the litle right guy can still convince me 😄

CU and thanks to all that make this project possible and keep it alive 🤩👌👍

    Cheers, Mick

From the start my gearing sytem broke down so I only had my highest gear left, 53×11. A real track experience. Z5 race wasn’t possible with such a gear. So I decided to go all out. Though race, my rpm was only 69, but I love my top 10 result.

  14. Tom-mww says:

Was nice to have a good race with a bunch that had good etiquette. (I am often solo in no man’s land) Shame about the rouvy glitchy avatars, but that’s the joy of the virtual world.
Obviously would of liked to of won but I was content with my finishing position knowing I’d tried!

  15. Roy Madden says:

not sure about anyone else but for a flat course I found this really hard was with a big group at the start it split mabey around half way I didn’t make the split so was withR3-569-DIEGO-DONATI.Tom-MWWand I think pavelfoltyn Diego done most of the work but myself and lads done as much as we could and I just pipped Diego at the end happy with the result
