RACE WITHIN A RACE REPORT:

Quick Rules reminder: So, to be clear, zone 5 training race and we will allow 60 seconds of blips and glitches into the next zone above, but not another higher zone. That defects the object of trying to stay in zone 5 if you end up in zone 7 for a few seconds?! Also, some strange heart rate zones out there so please just have a quick look at your zones on ROUVY and set your max yourself and the zones will automatically sort themselves out. But, this is just for those who want to train at a zone and out of the 86 that finished, we only had 14 stick to the concept.

“Stefan_Smit” wins tonight, “A2-448-JAMES-ROBINSON” just 24 seconds behind claiming 2nd. “Squallo_delle_Alpi” keeps composure to claim 3rd place, with “Grochang” next in 4th, just in front of “Kylofski” in 5th. Well done Riders and well done to the 9 others than carried out the Race within a race!

MAIN RACE REPORT:

“Alieno79” wins the flat out race tonight but only 4 seconds in front of “karel_sousek” in 2nd! “nelsonsnyder” joins them on the podium in 3rd with “luca_ma” just 15 seconds behind in 4th. These 4 really went for it tonight and did so with some nice times!

Sprint for 5th was just won by “TOR68” with “adampel” getting 6th. 16 seconds later we have a full on sprint out between 6 riders which must have been a watts fest! “Simon_Hahnenbruch” shows his power getting a nice 2 seconds gap over the line to our Top Muckers Rider “nielsbrynnum” who just pipped the winner of the race within a race “Stefan_Smit” who claims 9th, with fellow German countryman “s.p” claiming 10th , just in front of “lrollin” in 11th!

In a little bit of no-mans-land comes “hj2010” in 12th and the same story for “A2-448-JAMES-ROBINSON” in 13th. But we have a race for 14th that was won by “A2-569-DIEGO-DONATI” just in front of “Rocket996” in 15th. 16th comes “leonelcunha” just 4 seconds in front of strong Mucker Team rider “chorus” to claim a nice 17th! “yayarecki” in a lonesome 18th, then another Mucker “Groenen” in 19th and the final mention, after a few bumps, goes to Spanish rider “jakimati”

Well done everyone tonight, really good turn out and i hope you had a great time and at least found a few riders to race against. Please pop a comment on as we’d love to read how the race went for yourself. Remember, if you’ve completed a Muckers race and can see yourself doing another, then you are a Mucker! join the team and change your team name to Muckers Worldwide to help spread the word and be part of this great team of riders.

Next race is the eagerly anticipated 3rd round of the Muckers November Championship. Thursday at 7pm or 9:30pm or 11:30pm! (UK time zone) everybody is welcome, even if you aren’t that interested in the championship, as we just want you to enjoy a race night and hopefully find 1 or 2 other riders riding around your level so you have fun and a RACE!! co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

really good turn out tonight for a route that’s been out there for a few weeks now. I wanted to do the race within a race and what a great time i had doing it to end up 9th out of everyone! I actually set off quite strong and was pulling a nice 260watts in zone 5 at the beginning and actually had to hold myself back to stay in the correct zone. Then i think SwissChris got bored and dropped back to try and assist me with a draft to see where we got. Its such a challenge to try and keep the heart rate in check, when you really fee so strong and want to push on! So we’d catch a bunch of riders, I’d have to drop back and try and stay in the draft of them all, get the rate down, then try and get going with Chris again… and repeat…. and repeat lol. Quite happy where i finished overall as well as i was quite a few places in front of some others who were pushing harder than myself, so thats always a good feeling.

Speaking of really good turn outs. This race clobbered the Zwift Racing League race going on at the same time. I was looking for a Muckers livestream on YouTube and it offered up the Zwift livestream. 57 riders!! You had almost double that!! Nice job Neil. Keep up the good work. We all appreciate it.

  2. John - SR-71 says:

This course was perfect for what I had planned. I feel like most of the time I don’t push myself enough. My strategy was to power up the ascents and then hang on for dear life down the other side.

The race started and I was off pushing as hard as I could, hitting 5-6w/kg. I was sweating in the first minute!! I had to back off some but still managed to set my new 5 min and 10 minute power while climbing. Up the first section I was up to 24th place, come to the second section and I dropped to 40th. It was crazy how fast I dropped places although the names going by were really strong riders. At some point between mile 4 and 6 I ended up with a bunch of Muckers, Squalo, kylofski and Grochang. ChadDRouvy was in the mix and flyger was off the front a ways. I figured these guys were going for the Z5 race as there was no way I should be able to keep up with them this far in. So I figured a way to push myself a little more. I would draft them when I needed but take pulls every chance I could to give them a rest. It worked out really well, I would try to take the lead on the false flats and provide a good pull allowing them to stay in Z5. And then I would try and recover. We managed to crawl up into the 30th – 35th places. I tried to do this as long as possible. To my surprise as long as possible was to the end!! As we were getting to the last little incline I was planning on my final sprint to try and break into the top 30. But I had no power left for a sprint, but still gave my all. I felt kinda bad sneaking past Grochang in the finishing chute to finish 32nd even though I knew he and I weren’t in the same race.

I gotta say that even though I wasn’t wearing the Muckers jersey and I am part of team Gem City ICC, I was proud to ride with you guys and for you guys.

Nice race, HR zone races are almost tailor-made for me now since I’m more of a diesel than a Ferrari. Good start with an eye always to not exceed z5, but after the first hills I turn almost in position 48, Omg but how many of us are tonight… Our Muckers Group is top!!!
I’m joining a best team, Kyle, Mads and Jhon, what a great feeling to see the blue shirts fighting together and helping each other, and Jhon doesn’t hold back either, good job.
When we do these races I’m often alongside Mads and so I know I’m doing well, in the classic races I’m still a little slower than my teammates tonight but we’ll train hard to get closer.
I held up well in the final sprint, maybe I could have done something more to recover another 5 positions, but that’s okay… 30th place and 3rd in the HR race. Thank you all

  4. Mads Grosen says:

After Sundays ride, the Tuesdays HR Z5 race was too high an effort for my taste. I wouldn’t want to blow myself up going into Thursdays race. I set my focus on a training session of doing 200 watts.
So I started out just fine holding my pace for about 10 seconds, and then my eyes caught something turquoise ahead of me – hold on…”I see a Muckers in front of me, it could be fun ridning together. Holy Moses my legs step on those pedals to reach the guys! yippee Ki, yay… I see Mucker1974, Gazinho and Kylofski ahead of me – step on those Pedals again..come on Mads!🚴🏼‍♂️💨
I’m sure I blew my plan up right away from the very start 🙈 So after hooking up with kylofski and Squalo, but sadly had to leave Mucker1974 and Gazinho I had to change the plan, going in to HR Z4 instead, which surprisingly suited me just fine.
We did a good strong teamwork and it got even better when JohnChad SR-71 teamed up.
At the very end we caught up with teammate Batbuilder and shortly after brought mlund and Andrejsalaj to the Great Mucker train – Great work guys🤟 Mission completed, I went from a totally failure, to a most satisfy end race, by staying in Z4 and surrounded amongst Muckers. Cheers all you Muckers😉

This “little” bee DNF. My avatar stopped responding 3,56 km before the finish line. I tried to turn on/off map overlay and change all related settings. It took my avatar 5-6 min. to move 560 meters but then I lost patient and ended the race. But before this happened I had a fun ride with Shoffmann but on the same climb we both lost the zone 5 race and I knew I had lost that part and just took of. Fun race but hated the part Rouvy didn’t work correctly 🙁

  6. HalAir says:

Was looking forward to this race, intending to do the Z5 effort, was set to go but not ready in time…
Best of luck on Thursday, will be back next week for new attempts/efforts!

  7. Rocket Roy says:

Me and Karen stayed in Bedoin in July this year. She had this idea to ride all 3 ascents of Mont Ventoux one after the other. She didn’t but I did – in 6.5 hours non-stop. Ended up with 8 ascents in 7 days. We actually rode this course from Bedoin as far as Malaucene before turning right for Ventoux. Absolutely stunning ride and the Rouvy video shows it well. Tonight’s race was tough. As a climber I went flat out for the first 6Km to maximise my strong point as I knew I would suffer on the long descent at only 66Kg. Fortunately a nice chap called Diego was happy to lend me a wheel and drag me down hill. I tried to come round him and contribute but only had enough power to draw level. I hope he didn’t think I was a wheel sucker. Thanks to Muckers for organising and all those that made it a good race.

  8. Kyle Goodram says:

Race within a race is an easy one for me, as I always go for the straightforward option and stick to the Zonal Challenge. This race was a little different; most of the climbing was done in the first 3 miles, and then it was mainly downhill. I set off in 60th position, not really bothered as it wasn’t a championship race. I gained a few places on the climb, nudging the top end of my Zone 5, which was about 285 watts. On the downhill section, I found a group of riders that included a few Muckers Racers whom I know are really strong: “Squalo_delle_Alpi,” “Grochang,” “SR-71,” and “Flyger.” This group helped me stay in my Zone but get into the top 30 positions. Sorry, guys, I couldn’t do much on the front; that would have taken me well into Zone 6. I think they could read my mind and stuck with me the whole way. MASSIVE KUDOS, guys. See you all on Thursday for the 3rd of the Muckers November Championship.

  9. Andy_UP says:

I thought I would still feel the sunday “race”, but suprisingly, I felt good and could provide a nice power in Z4 without pain. Still I wanted to give my legs some extra rest so I didn’t push hard. Thursday, it will be different 😉

  10. Niels Brynnum says:

After missing energy the last weeks, my legs felt in better shape going into yesterdays race 🚴🏻‍♂️💨💨 So I decided to skip the zone5 and instead try to defend the Muckers jersey in top 10. From the beginning of the race I managed the first small climbs in the front group but couldn’t follow the front group 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 at the long climb. Stafan_Smit, s.p., Barnardo, Lrollin gathered in the chasing group. Our group got accompanied by a super strong 💪🏻💪🏻 hj2010 🇩🇰. We worked all quite well together, closing in at the 5 km mark the Hahnenbruch 💪🏻💪🏻 train joined our group. With approximately 750 m to go Simon_Hahnenbruch opened the sprint. I knew his wheel was the one to follow so I just pushed every muscle fibre I had into the pedals. Great race 🚴🏻‍♂️💨💨 and thanks to all the participants 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

  11. Batbuilder says:

Im really struggling to stay in below the zone 6 limit. Regulating a steady high zone 5 pace is difficult when you have people passing you and pulling away. Its like throwing a ball past a dog and then not expecting it to chase it. I started out with good intentions and managed to keep below on the first climb, but then got distracted and next time I looked I was just over. This happened a few times, especially towards the end when Chak , squalo delle api and SR-71 caught me up. In the end I thought “sod it ” and rode the last 1km at full blast.
Does anyone have any tips for trying to stay in the zone?

    • Andy_UP says:

Yes. Just confvince yourself it’s not a race for you, it’s a training. Don’t care if you are 30th or 60th. Don’t care if you are overtaken by names you can defeat every single race. I ended 65th, worked together with some racers more down the peleton, that was fun. Even got a thank you here in the responces. And to everyone that overtook me I’m saying, see you on thursday 😀

    • Lamber Manuel says:

very difficult to keep an eye on the opponents and an eye on the HR zone. The only advice I can give you is to run close to the racers you know… in the end it always turns out to be a good race 💪

  12. Dok_PS says:

Sorry. I overlooked the Z5 restriction. This was a nice course for me with the climbs in the beginning. The rest of the race was so much more friendly between the riders and invited to draft and work together until the sprint in the end. Well done again.

And sorry again. As a personal choice of my way to cycle, I do not use a heart rate monitor. But I use a smart trainer with a regular road bike which also limits myself against other trainers in downhills as I cannot go faster than my cassette allows… 🙂

  13. Karel Soušek says:

Short race, but don’t get me wrong, i was more scared than on Hawaii race on Sunday. The shorter, the more intensive and don’t get me wrong, but i don’t like intensities like everyone else. With heavy, but warmed up legs after running i pushed max hoping i will not lost leaders right after start.
It worked today, soon we stayed with Nelson. Luca and Alieno. Then few top pushes by Alieno and only me able to go with him. Gap 50m over Nelson / Luca, but they did massive effort and got back. Hmm nice, now time for another push from my end, splitting us one more time. Then pushing max mostly in front, knowing otherwise Nelson / Luca might get back again. Alieno did 10wkg attack under 2km to go, which i will never do, but i could keep 2nd spot, as it was short, but very intensive race. Thank you all who joined!
