MUCKERS DOWN UNDER RACE 6 OF 8. 22/08/23

Rouvy Route Used: Caves Route | Australia | 16.33 miles | 692ft. Climbing

Route 6 from the Down Under | Medium challenge.

68 REGISTERED | 42 FINISHERS | 3 DNF | 23 DNS

50 minutes to Rattle this one off before the start of the sprint race!? This means you need to get up those climbs as fast as you can and find the draft when not climbing!! Hope you made it!

Hot in the garages tonight, some riders in the peloton considered blocking the road in a ‘go slow’ to protest at the organisers planning a ride in these inhumane conditions. The management held firm and the flag dropped for the 45 riders. 9 Nationalities and 10 teams represented in the top 10 tonight and yet again, some very close racing. “Tuden” takes the honours tonight very closely followed by “hinsbergen” in 2nd place. Just over half a minute to “nelsonsnyder” who appears to have outsprinted “breers33” for the final podium spot. Guys, if I can put a microphone under your nose and say “how was your race today”, please answer in the comments below.

Many regulars packing out the remainder of the Top 10. “karel_sousek” took 5th, French rider “stephane-martin” 6th only 13 seconds ahead of “orthostice” in 7th with a larger gap back to “CelestinaJ”, 8th. Only two mentions remaining but three riders chasing them, looks like a full on sprint saw “Minyana_GURE” take 9th ahead of our very own ‘MuckersWorldwide’ rider “Berty-Bassett6”, “get in Mucker”, …. ooops, sorry, no bias on the reports … “Well done rider”.

Well done to all who competed, treat yourself to a long drink. Championship standings will be published tomorrow after the 2LATE4ME races have been run.

Cheers

    What a great race!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
At the start a group made a quick gap… I was in a 21st position and going for a better place with everything that I had… managed to find a group that was trying to catch the riders ahead. Managed to ride on 13th-9th place but went for it on a small “climb”… When I had a small gap of 25m I told myself: “I need to extend it to at least 100m.” At the finish I was very satisfied with my 8th place… I will try to do better or at least the same next time. Great ride! Congratulations to the top 3 riders.

That had to be the hardest effort I have ever gave in a race, and got 16th. The 10 riders in front of me were within 1 min., but I could not go any deeper without blowing up. As for the championship, I needed 3.5 points to tie 9th place, Andy_UP, so I was basically riding just to keep distance in front of him. Thanks for the motivation Andy!
As for the second race at Ashley Gorge, I started getting cramps in both calves before the halfway checkpoint. Backing off only felt worse, so I tried to keep pressure on the pedals, only to lose about 350ft to the bunch that I needed to stay with. The legs felt better once on the final climbs were I could stretch the calves, but it was dropped at that point. Oh well, it was still a great race, and much respect and congratulations to everyone that finished.
Afterwards, Garmin showed new FTP detected, lactate threshold up to 165bpm, best power for 20 mins at 275 watts.
Good luck to all the Muckers in the final race for the championship next week!

So that’s why you chased me down with a huge effort! If I had known I focussed my race a bit more on you. We’ll always have next time 😉

I really didn’t want to give my heart the usual 6w/kg start line shock in this race and started at 3w/kg whilst searching for a group of riders to work with. Found what I needed in ‘Rens_Piccavet’, ‘Dolphwader’, ‘rogerstrainer’ and ‘barryb1964’. Torben and Myself were trying to calculate how fellow Mucker Rens was feeling tonight but we had no communication, as Rens power dropped (a few glitchy issues we learnt later) we tried to pull away from the others after a slight gap formed, shared duties for a while then Rens started to claw back with ‘hailiu’ as Torben briefly slowed. Decided to go solo for the fun of it and the chasing group kept me honest all the way to the finish.

he sufrido mucho para aguantar en mi grupo… no era el mas fuerte, asi que no he podido ayudar para mejorar posiciones

well I am glad you didnt poke the microphone under my nose last night ! I would have been had up for making obscene noises !, I don’t know whether it was heat or work or quality of opponents but that was gruesome , put full on effort most the way to try and get out of a sprint finish , only to find myself in a sprint finish , I should have listened to the angel on my shoulder who was trying to say ‘ Berty you fool , save something for the next race ,look at the readings , you are doing ok ‘ but I am afraid the man on my other shoulder crept round and muffled her then was shouting ‘faster you fool! is that all you’ve got !you will be fine next race ‘.boy has he got me in trouble over the years !got in a group of 3 I think and was resigned to come 3rd but I ws so lucky the line came just before the 10watt monster did – really enjoyed it thank you for sorting

What a hard race. After we catch up with a small group in front Steven and I decided to make a pull away. But there’s a bug in the app this evening so for me Steven was riding as a ghost, meaning he was invisible to me and I’s not able to draft from him so after a (for me) long pull I’d to drop down and loosing a lot of places. But I manage to set a new personal record on 5 sec, 635w. These numbers only increase every day 🙂

Started fast but not too fast (2 races and in the end of race 2, there are some hills where I could lose massive time/places) Found a group but I misjudged the usually strong rider Irollin. He wouldn’t take any pulls, turns out he couldn’t. So Chad chased me down with some strong guys in his wheel (V3 and Yaya) In the end I let the strong guys go, as I didn’t want to waste energy (for the next race) knowing I would loose in the sprint vs these guys and waste even more energy. Tranberg was tired and I noticed so I could get away from him in the end and avoid a sprint finish. Nice. My stats look very good even though I held back here and there. Nice lesson!

After my huge weekend ride I wasn’t sure what to expect for this race. I hopped on the bike with 8 minutes to the start and then hopped off for an emergency repair on my toe. I got back on with a minute to go. The start of the race being uphill made it tough for me to get into a rhythm. I quickly fell into the mid 30’s. I knew a bunch of riders weren’t able to make the race at all, so I went into survival mode and just decided I just needed to finish. On the downhill, I was making some headway and caught back Hairycornflake and set my sights on mareckii and rogerstrainer. I ended up catching mareckii around two miles from the end and powered past rogerstrainer at the very end with a little burst. I ended up 28th and was super happy with the result.
