Route 4 from GFNY | Hard challenge.

25 registered | 12 finishers | 4 dnf | 9 dns

Main Race time and a nice hill climb to end the day on. 16 riders on the start line and at 8pm UK time, we all set off. Just under 55 minutes later came “Simon_Hahnenbruch” to claim the gold and to get his revenge on finishing in 2nd place on the warm up race! “PatrykS_Gdynia_PL” came over the line over 2 minutes later, but the only other rider to get this tough climb done in under the hour mark!

Warm up race winner “feelslikemonday” did enough for the bronze, then in 4th came muckers worldwide rider ( And fresh legged 😆) “Svard” keeping our top 10 in every Muckers race roll going for another event! 5th was “denny44” who is an active muckers worldwide WhatsApp group member but doesn’t seem to be a race team member yet 😉, followed very closely by the very strong “kin_kwan” in 6th. “Christophe-Patterson” came over the finish line next in 7th with a strong time just under 66 minutes.

8th to 11th places are all filled with muckers worldwide riders! so one isn’t getting a mention………… first of these was “Lyndon65” , next “Andy_UP” then 10th came “Shrek-1970-Challenger” . Well done guys!

Also well done to everyone who did this climb and especially to all who did the 2 routes!

please comment if you get the chance

cheers.

Yep, obviously I’m the muckers worldwide rider in 11th that can’t be named🤣. It’d been a long and tough week of challenges so I chose to ride this as a bit of a training ride. I zone 4’d all the way up the first climb, chilled on the downhill, then did some out of the saddle efforts on the little red bits on the short 2nd climb. recovered on the next downhill then zone6’d the final climb all the way up, overtaking Edna. on the way and pulling out a nice gap that gave me more motivation to keep in that zone to the top just to see how far i could increase my gap. Then recovered on the way back down and off for a shower and sleep!

Tonight I had the feeling to do both races. 20km warm up and 30km main race is not an easy distance combined with a total climb of more than 1200m. Took it easy at the warm up race and was just in time at the finish line. Had 1 minute to take a deep breath before the main race started. At the front the speed was high as it always is. Tried to save some power for the last climb and started good but not to hard. The first 10km went slightly uphill not to steep and perfect for a nice pace. I had my friend “Shrek” with me and we worked well together. At the second hill I increased my speed but the gap to the three riders in front of me kept the same. I was alone at the downhill and couldn’t really recover. The three riders in front of me including “Andy-UP” were working well together. Difficult to get closer but I tried it at the last climb. I was 300m behind them and after a few minutes I had a good “flow” uphill. Working hard und chasing the group. Suddenly I got a cramp in the calf and had to slow down for a few seconds. I started again but the cramps were coming back. I couldn’t ride by sitting on the saddle anymore while the cramps were coming back. Didn’t want to quit and were standing on the pedals until the rest of the climb for the next 10 minutes. In the meantime “Andy_UP” was getting slower and I could pass him and another rider. At the top of the hill only “kin_kwan” was left and took my wheel. We were both tired and reduced the speed so I could recover the first time at this race. Was good and I needed that!!! 1.5km before the finish line “kin_kwan” started his attack but I stayed at his wheel. At the last 200m I started my attack and was successful. Hard and tough race and my muscles are still stiff.
By the way I am full muckers worldwide member yet 🙂

excellent review. surprised to hear you were cramping up though. do you think that was a lack of fluids as you are normally very strong all the way! even with cramps you did amazingly well to recover and still win a sprint finish! thanks for taking the time to comment!

Great reac!!! I had the advantage of the fresh legs. Thanks Andy for riding along for most of the route. Denny caught up at last hill and we ride together to the finishline. Tried to sprint early, but just don’t have the power to beat Denny. Well done. Hope we can race again next week.

Thursday night race night two very good routes . Race one was a nice rolling route and a very nice touch to have the escort bike riders. I found this ride was quite hard for a warm up race and not a lot of time to recover for race 2 which at the last minute I decided to give it a go. There are some very fast riders and was soon on catch up. I stuck in and got a good pace going and started to pull a few riders back. On the last climb I was gaining on Andy up and managed to catch him, or he let me. We raced to the finish and I just got him on the line. Two very good races thanks Neil
