MUCKERS MAY CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 3. 16/05/24

ROUVY Route Used: Predazzo to Passo rolle | 12.49 miles | 3146ft climbing

3rd Round of this months championship see’s us hit the climbs. This one felt like it should be one of the better climbing race routes with a nice “flatish” section in the middle and no red sections on the climbs which will hopefully see more riders finish this race. That was the theory, lets see what actually happened.

48 starters on the line means 2 things: 1 we only do top 10 mentions and 2: everyone gets stats checked at we don’t have a 50th place cut off time. At the time of doing this blog, everyone in the 2 early races are all new to Muckers races and haven’t accepted my friends request but they have until tomorrow to do so and get some points as I will be adding the 2 later race results tomorrow evening once i come home from work.

“BareRemi” smashed it up this climb tonight for the Gold, with “karel_sousek” getting the silver and Muckers Team rider “Tuden” getting the Bonze. some really good climbing got these the podium places tonight and kudos to these guys.

But Kudos also has to go to everyone who finished this race tonight, but especially the rest of the top 10 which consisted of: “nelsonsnyder”, “m-forby”, “hinsbergen”, “Stefan793”, “alvansk”, “Dok_PS” and “DonMatteo_07”. congratulations on just going hard enough to get into these rare special mention places. You have bought the T-Shirt that celebrates this fact haven’t you???

Cheers everyone for your continued support and hopefully see you on another Muckers Ride soon.

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

12th in the GC!! 12th!! just shows more how consistency and getting a top 50 placings helps you out rather than my sheer power!! 🤣…… But a few decent results from those really strong riders behind me in the top 25 will easily drop me a few places, but as i am usually fighting to stay in the top 50 overall. i will enjoy it while it lasts.

the race itself was as expected. hard and long so i set the goal of staying over 2.5 for the whole thing and hopefully do ok. the first climb went well, but as we crested the climb, the group I was with dropped me and i had to solo the flat bit which killed my legs! hit the 2nd climb and luckily team mate Rens caught me after a late start and he proceeded to act as the carrot i needed for the final stint as we rode up and passed 1 rider then we caught out Juan by surprise near the end to out sprint him and get the extra points! Yes we were finishing in the last 5 places, but we finished and we still had a very hard race!

Climbers paradise, Passo Rolle on the menu. Similarly like on Tuesday, same routine before race, because you know what they say, if it works, do not touch it. Stronger opponents this time and less steep profile, so one could benefit of drafting more. First climb we stayed only with Baremi and Tuden on the top as expected, distancing Nelson, Chris, lrollin. I switched again to Festka bike, so had to be extra cautious to not loose draft in the middle flat section. However i could not contribute in front much, sorry folks, while i weight same like Pogacar, im not that good for sure yet.

Second climb came and i get ahead in steeper section, but just for a while. Baremi spent 90% of the race in the front, clearly the strongest worker tonight. Later in the climb Tuden gave up, but soon after it was too much for me and i finished shortly after Baremi. Very happy with actual performance, thank you all for another thrilling event!

Bit of a dilemma for this one: it’s a Thursday Championship race in which I want to do well, but I also want to save something for Friday’s Gem City TTT. What to do? Set off fast and saw the back end of the top ten, all fast guys, so let go. A few riders drifted by, then I settled in with boogybill70 and RaTim. MattiasHeil was just up the road, and that was encouraging. Soon Bill went off, harder than I wanted to go, and we caught and passed Mattias. Maybe I’m going too hard? But RaTim and I were together and doing what seemed to be a comfortably hard pace on the first climb. noccon caught us on the flatter bit then DNF’d; dunno what happened to him. We overhauled Jack29 before the second climb, then did steady 3.5 to discourage him from following. Into the last 200 m it occurred to me that RaTim was ahead of me in the standings and it would be good to beat him. So I did an 8 W/kg surge. That should do it. But no, he got me back! Good for him.

    • Tomáš Hloušek (RaTim) says:

Although we had same time with Mike, I was one HR zone higher 😉. Thanks to Mike was conserving his strength, I could ride with him. At the end, when he increased power, I could hold, but I didn’t believe, that I could beat him. Finally it was one of only two well done finishes, I ever made. If the finish line was 10 m closer or further, I would lose.

Another 3000ft race. I found myself behind Duckman2, David1951 and FlyingPastor in the early stages and felt they would be riding at a similar pace to me so I made a little extra effort to reach them. Once I got there I found it difficult to change my climbing rhythm and pulled ahead, almost without intent. As we reached the plateau beyond the 1st climb, fellow Mucker FlyingPastor was still close, I held back and we briefly teamed up but Duckman2 was gaining as my teammate seemed to be dropping power (sack that running malarkey Jeff 😉) so I made the decision to break away solo. I spent a long time tracking and catching danie78 but he was teasing me, after one minute of glory he regained the position and gradually pulled away up the final climb. The only other rider I saw was barttt, I could see from a long distance he was going to catch and pass, a strong well timed effort.
Not as exciting as a fast and frantic flat race but much more appealing visually with great views, more importantly for me, great preparation for outside real world climbing.

It’s a shame, but the annual championship is over for me due to the credibility issues with the data transmitted by Rouvy. You’ve probably noticed for some time now, with my avatar moving its legs too much, that the data collected by my Mac and transmitted to Rouvy has become erratic. I believe this is due to the macOS version, which is becoming too old and less supported by the newer versions of Rouvy. Since I can’t find a quick and effective solution, I’m completely withdrawing from the championship.
I am even more disappointed because I did the April races while being sick and very tired, as I really didn’t want to miss a race in the annual championship, but that’s how it is.
Best of luck to everyone. 👋
